I've recently setup Chromecast audio across my Beoplay A1 and an old Bose sound wave and have been using Chromecast and a speaker group to send audio throughout my house including my BeoSound2. Works well so far. And controlling the whole thing from a Google Home assistant by voice. Curious to hear if others have been experimenting with Chromecast and ideas or applications you've got.

Cheers.

Intresting! How did you make the A1 supporting chromecast? Is this a standard feature or do you use the external dongle?

You add a Chromecast dongle ro the USB port. Its not built in like on the A6.

Chromecast is something which should be built-in in the new NL products and you don't need to select this or anything.

You use an android device to "Cast" to the BS2 just like you use an iDevice to "Airplay" to the BS2.

Have a look at the pictures below. They show you the sources you can select on my BS2. We do not use android at home so I don't need to enable this.

I hope this helps πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»

Chromecast (or rather Google Cast) is generally built-in to the newer/the NL products.

You don't need to 'use Android' for that (I don't either).

All you need is a 'cast-enabled app' on e.g. the iPhone/iPad - like Spotify Connect or TuneIn....

Certainly fine for Android users - iOS user have been able to AirPlay for streaming for a long time and might not need it.

The limitation with AirPlay is the inability to simultaneously play to all speakers. I'm also an iPhone user and the Spotify casting to a speaker group via casting (rather than Spotify Connect) works really well. And casting from my Google Home assistant to all speakers means I don't need my phone tied up either.

So basically, it works like Beolink Multiroom without the need for the Beomusic app?? And as long as the speakers have Google Cast?

I did not know this!!!

On my next trip to the US I will be bringing back a Google Home for use in the kitchen, mainly for music control. In preparation I'm partway through uploading my music collection to Google Play Music (you're allowed up to 50,000 tracks at 320Kbps for free, - I don't intend to pay for a music service subscription!) I set up a new Google account so that I can share it with family without them having access to my emails etc. - it can be used by up to 10 devices.

While waiting for the Google Home I've been using Google Play Music with an audio chromecast in my BM5000 controlled by either, phone, tablet or laptop. Once a selection is made the stream is direct from router to chromecast therefore phone/tablet is for control only, it is not involved in the streaming process and so can be used as normal for other things without any impact on battery etc.   - it works fine without any freezes or dropouts todate (about two weeks so far).

No, not quite - you can't just 'join-in' like with BeoLink Multiroom.

You will have to adress a single speaker or one or the grouped speakers, that you have configured with the Google Home app.

One of the adventages over AirPlay is that the device itself fetches the stream - the 'sending device' is just a controller, the initiator.

With AirPlay the 'sending device' is permanently engaged and thus occupied with streaming..

On the other hand you/iOS users can airplay litteraly anything. You can only cast from cast enabled apps!

The way you can mimic the multi room join concept is just be having a speaker group with all your speakers in it. So if you go into another room just turn on that speaker (B&O/BeoPlay or otherwise) that has Google cast (either built in or via Chromecast Audio dongle) and it will join in whatever is being already cast to the group.

I tried Google Music and uploaded my 11k songs but had dropouts, stutters, and had to keep acknowledging I was still alive. I switched back to iTunes and airplay on constant shuffle and repeat. Much more flexible and fool proof as proven by my ability to use it successfully. Stick out tongue

Anytime I hit Tape2 on a remote from any room, I get music. If I want a different playlist, artist, or album, I just call it up in my Apple remote app.

I have a 75Mb/75Mb fios fiber optic connection to my house. So bandwidth is not an issue. I would love to find something that can seamlessly and reliably use my personal playlist and mix in internet music sources to play the familiar and new on a constant basis without a subscription. Pure fantasy, I know.

If you make a group of (all) your Google Cast B&O devices and start playing to them, they will all start to play.

If that is, what you want, this will be ok.

But if you just want some of them playing, you'd have to adress these as one group respectively.

The purpose of 'Join-in' is, that you can participate in an event/something playing on one speaker on a particular speaker(or more) by tapping on it....

....alternatively use the x in the Beomusic app or using the 'Join' command on a B&O remote.

And you stay inside the UI of B&O/NL in order to use the other possibilities of all connected multiroom devices.

However, if you only need to cast (and want every speaker to play), 'mimicing the multiroom join concept' should be sufficient.

This seems related to what I am trying to do. I like the idea of mimic NL. While I indeed cannot join, I am thinking whether the following would be possible?

1) I can play to all speakers as one google cast group.

2) I can pause/resume individual B&O NL speakers via "tap" or via the B&O app

If this works, this would indeed be somewhat similar to mimicing NL. has anyone tried whether indeed works?

Hi

A CCA is attached to my BL5s.

This way I can play/cast (Deezer, TuneIn, DS Audio) simultaneously on them and on Beoplay M3s and/or on a (wired) Beosound 35.

Sure - that is the group function of ChromeCast.

I would not even call that ‘mimicing NL’.

Of course you can play to all speakers.

But the only way to ‘pause/resume’ that stream via the physical touch on a NL device would be to turn down the volume and turn it up again.

Whether you using the Bang & Olufsen app can stop that stream on a specific device and then resume it (with the play button there) or not, I don’t know - it must be tried out first.

Anyway that is not a very handy way of controlling multiroom.....running around with the phone/tablet with the app open all the time πŸ€”

Agree, the app is not handy.

Tap to pause/mute and tap again to resume/mute would be pretty good though.

i’ll try next week whether this works. it seems some (a9) have a mute function while others (m3/a6) don’t.

Tried it out over the weekend. Unfortunately, neither the A9 nor the BS1 have "mute" tap. You can pause but not mute.

Chromecast works well for multi-room though.

I've played around with a Chromecast audio directly plugged into my Beolab 90's using this cable: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00T8HWUVS/ref=asc_df_B00T8HWUVS58026583

Works great!
