Hello forum members,

I am considering to buy an Essence and connect to my V1 and the speakers connected to the V1.

How does this setup behalve with Spotify? From the B&O support page I understand that Spotify Connect will not play to the speakers of the V1. Is this still the case?

Is this also the same behavior when playing Spotify through Google Cast on the Essence?

Or is Deezer the only option for streaming from the Essence to the V1's speakers?

Looking forward to hear from your experiences

Hi Jan,

due to Spotify restrictions this is still not possible.

The same goes for casting at the moment - B&O is working on changing this for a future update.

Best way - as things are now - is to connect a Chromecast Audio device to the line-in of the Essence.

This line-in has autosense - if you push the button assigned to this (then linked) source on the V1 and start casting, you will have sound from all your cast-able apps (including Spotify Premium).

(Tip: Name that source 'Chromecast' in the Source List of the V1.)

In addition, you would have TuneIn on the V1 (maybe not that important now after the update with Netradio).

You would - of course - have Deezer, yes.

And the DLNA renderer (which you also have natively on the V1).

Bluetooth - if you need it, yes.

Maybe the Essence is more usefull, if you use it in another room with its own speakers or connected to the Aux-in of an old BeoMaster/BeoSystem...

You will still be able to link the 'linkable sourses' to the V1 from there.

When your preference is to be able to cast, just connect a Chromecast Audio dongle to the digital-in of the V1 and configure that port as you need it.

Only thing that you would need in addition, is an optical to coax (spdif) converter.

Hi MM

thanks for your elaborate feedback. You confirm my assumptions regarding Spotify. So at this moment, the essence connected to the V1 would not add a lot of value, as I already have a Chromecast dongle connected to the V1. For your info, it is not the Audio Dongle but the Chromecast Video dongle, which allows me to share screens and to stream youtube to the V1.

Having Spotify rights cleared, so that we could use Spotify in the mutti-room concept would be a nice step forward for me, and for many other users.

I still have to reflect on whether use an Essence in a different location, since most of rooms are already equiped with Sonos and passive speakers for many years. I might start by adding an Essence to the line-in of Sonos, just to start playing around and experiment with the Multiroom capabilities.

regards

Jan

Dependent on how many and which speakers, you have connected to the V1, I would recommend you to use a Chromecast Audio (!) for playing music only.

This would allow you to have different sound setting including the speakers involved as default.

Usually you would have the sound settings for the HDMI-Chromecast in a different way.

Should you give the Essence further thoughts, you could use the line-in of that for connecting a Chromecast Audio - in order to link this/the line-in to the V1 as well.
