Hello everyone,

My BeoVision 8-32 has developed an intermittent fault, which is puzzling me - as soon as I try to investigate it, it seems to clear by iteslf, then re-appear when I least expect it! Confused

Basically, when switching on the TV (to any source, ie. TV, DTV or DVD), the picture appears for one second and then goes black.  The sound continues to play as normal.  Changing source gives sound but no picture.

I even tried switching on Picture Mute (P.MUTE) function and the screen stays black, then when P.MUTE is switched off, the picture shows for one second before going to black again.....

The error counters are all at zero.  I have a feeling this should be something simple, but so far this has got me puzzled!  Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Thanks, Steve.

Steve.

Problem solved.....

Many thanks to Ian at B&O Nottingham for kindly offering this solution:-

This issue is caused by poor grounding of the LCD panel on BV8-26 and BV8-32 screens, which can be resolved by fitting star washers under the grounding screws to improve the ground connection.  Ian has kindly provided the following data for this issue:-

Symptom:
When powered up, the inverter shuts down after approx. 1 second, giving no picture or intermittently no
picture. Sound is OK. Note that if no TV channels are stored, you can hear noise in the speakers when the volume is turned up.

Cause:
Backlight inverter will not run due to missing/poor ground connections.

Solution:
Mount lock washers (part no. 2625002 x 3) between the 3 ground screws and the metal shield on the LCD panel, and tighten all 6 screw holding the inverter PCB onto the LCD
shield.

The below description is an easy way to determine if the LCD backlight inverter in the product
displaying the fault is defective.

Use, for example, an anglepoise lamp to shine light directly at the LCD screen. When you press 'MENU' on
the remote control, you can see the menu field clearly in the middle of the screen.

If anyone else encounters this problem, please let me know and I will be happy to help you resolve it!

Thanks again to Ian at B&O Nottingham!

Kind regards, Steve.

Steve.

I have found B&O nottingham to be very generous and helpful, I like buying from them.  I hope to one day be able to buy a new product instead of 2nd hand!!

Hi Steve,

I think I have the same issue with my 2009 Beovision 8 - 32. Can you give me a more detailed description about the screws who are involved or can you pinpoint the screws on the the page "Available Parts" of the service manual?

Thanks and regards,

Cees

Hi Cees,

I wish it could be that simple! I counted 75 screws that I had removed whilst getting to the fault, then after that I gave up counting........ Crying

Basically, the whole of the case needs to be opened apart, the speaker bar removed, most of the video and processing modules need to be unplugged and removed (so the correct anti-static precautions need to be taken), then the six bolts that need to be tightened are finally found under a metal plate behind every other removable part inside the TV (or so it seemed).

I took around 3 hours to carefully strip down the TV and store the screws in some of my wife's cup-cake trays so that I could find them again in the right order, before finally reaching the inverter bolts and starting the rebuilding process.

If you have access to the service manual, you need to follow through the dismantling process with care until you reach the inverter section.  I also have the Technical Bulletin regarding this fault from B&O in PDF format, which I will send to Lee and Keith for uploading to the manuals area of the Beoworld site.

Sorry if my post seems a bit negative, the repair work is long-winded but straightforward if you have a very good memory....and it worked!  I've not had any other problems with the TV since.

Kind regards, Steve.

It's such a common issue we have all these screws retightened as part of our pre sale service on all bv8s. It's not a case of if but when they will need doing!

The Technical Bulletin which Steve quoted is available to Silver & Gold members HERE in the Service manual section of the Beovision 8-32

Thanks Keith!

If any Beoworlders need their TV servicing, I can highly recommend Simon at AVA Services in Crawley (www.bang-olufsen-service.co.uk)

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the reply! I will choose a rainy day to do the repair on the Beovision 8.

I'm not an active member on Beoworld so I'm not a silver member (yet). Is it maybe possible to mail me the pdf document?

Regards,

Cees

Hi Cees,

I would highly recommend joining Beoworld as a silver or gold member - for a small cost each year you get access to this and hundreds of other technical documents, plus you are helping to support a great online community for B&O enthusiasts.

Hence, I apologise that I won't be able to mail the document to you, as that would reduce your incentive to upgrade your membership.......

Kind regards, Steve.

Hallo tito,

Looks like I have got a screw loose too. Embarrassed

Thought that it couldn't be too hard tightening 3 screws and adding lock washers to three others. Then I read about Steve's travails. uh oh

Does anyone know of a kind, sympathetic, patient and skill technician in the Bristol UK area that I could pay a visit?

Gary
