Anyone done this? I have one pink and one blue, and my black pair are starting to show their age and the ones that I find on Bay are overpriced. I've thought of just removing the cloth as throroughly as possible and then removing the glue residue with thinner, etc.. and taking a cloth sample to a sewing etc... good store for a good fabric/colour match.
Hi and welcome to Beoworld!
You could always replace with newer metal frets by following Leslie's technique here: http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/3566/32210.aspx#32210

Thanks, what did you use to remove the glue, etc... from the frets after you removed the old cloths?
Nothing, because there was no glue... and nothing was needed to fix the new one.
The cloth seemed to be maintained by a lot of tiny needles, similar to hook & loop tape (Velcro), but integrated into the plastic of the frame. So I used this again to maintain the new fabric, even if it wasn't really needed (the pantyhose holds by itself - it's stretch).
Note: two persons are needed to realise this
The first person (the strongest) put his arms into one of the leg to open it.
The second person slip carefully the frame between the arms of the first person.
The pantyhose part used looks like a tube. Hence nothing but cisors is needed.
--> There is fabric on both sides of the frame.
