Dear all Received an email from my dealer with the information that the Beolab 5 and Beolab 3 are EOL. Therefore B&O is producing a special edition in polished aluminium instead of brushed.

Maybe the prices even go up - they are both popular speakers.

P.S. I'd like to see a white BL3 with the shiny lens;-)

Yes, given their current 'direction' a 70's style large, wood paneled full of drivers is probably in the works.. Hmm I believe something like that exists.. the Bose 901!

A serious note, this was coming as the last of the David Lewis era are done.

The matte black would look special with the shiny

Jon, I think that they wouldn't have made this decision lightly unfortunately. I wonder how many they sold recently.

That being said I still think both speakers potentially could have had their jacks updated to RJ45 to keep them going for a while.

This raises expectation for a BL5 successor.

Now we have to wait.....

BL3 is a wonderful speaker. I'm a little bit anxious to see how they will replace it.

Sad, but I guess the demand had slowed considerably? More surprised about the BL3s if I'm honest as they still look modern and sound amazing.

That's interesting!

Any idea of the naming?

BeoLab 50, perhaps??

Same. The BL3 are my fav B&O speakers other than the 18's. I love mine.

Too bad they never made a rose gold option :(

Good, beautiful if also a limited speaker, the Beolab 3. It's weak spot is in classical music reproduction.

It shines in jazz and pop. So all in all a not very all-round speaker.

In the so-called 'midrange'. There was a discussion some years ago, perhaps to be found in the archived forum, where David Moulton himself (designer and inventor of the acoustic lens) also found that the Beolab 3 lacked a bit of 'midrange energy'.

What it actually means is that somehow classical music doesn't have the 'presence' through the 3's as I would like it to have. A certain 'directness' is missing, one of the strong points of the Beolab 3 always was it's 'airiness' and transparency, and to put out a sound way beyond its size. That makes it perfect for pop and jazz; a saxophone played through the 3's sound very life-real. as if the musician is playng right in your living room, however, as said, that is not the case with more subtle classical passages. It's difficult stuff, (psycho)acoustics.

Hi, Carlito,

Possible to post the picture in here again. I can not see the photo in the original website; I want to have a look the final version.

Thanks!

Roger. How do you know this? We've heard many rumours over the years.

If this is accurate this is potentially very exciting for me and quite a few others who could pull the trigger on a small version at this price range.

Ok this has been confirmed by a different source not on this forum but a dealer.

It is due out later in the year and is a smaller speaker with some of BL90 technology in the £20000 plus region. Potentially very exciting.

If they're smart, this next model will arrive at a lower price point than expected, making room for an immediate trade-up model another $10-12K more 15-18 months later

My only concern is that having another speaker in the portfolio with BL's 90 features embedded will decrease the chance of a new Beosystem "5" with room compensation...

Or is it the other way around?

Hi everyone,

Thinking of pulling the trigger on some Final edition 5's with the polished aluminium and in parisian blue. Would be upgrading from a pair of 20's. Got a good price from someone who bought ex-demo and is now moving on to some 50's. Its been awhile since I heard them, will again before purchase.

Moving from an apartment to a house next year, so will store them for a little if I go ahead. Would really appreciate any opinions on whether this is a good upgrade?

50's out of my price range most likely forever! I heard a rumours there might be 30's at some point. I love my 20's, which were upgraded from 9's, but I must admit there are a bit finicky. I had several problems with getting a static kickback sound when certain songs or tv apps are started. Went from a bluesound to a connection hub to an essence mk2, the latter was the worst offender. Never had this with the 9's, and although the 20's are a much better speaker, the 9's were a little warmer in sound.

Thinking about an oppo (or something else) for an input device with some new cables from sounds heavenly in the uk. Dont own a B&O tv, will buy a new tv when I move but leaning towards loewe. Beyond that I like to keep things wired and I dont use a center speaker.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or input!!

DId they ever make those Beolab 3's?  I've seen a few pairs of the Beolab 5 around, but never seen the Beolab 3 Final edition available anywhere.

Another owner who has experienced the BL20's "dark side."

On topic, I haven't seen many BL5 / BL3 final editions around or even posted on these forums as purchases. Good luck!
