Hello Friends,

I just got a TX2, great table but still learning to use it. I out a EP on, 10" with standard spindle, pressed play and instead of the arm going to start of record, it went to 12" inch position and proceeded to drop on edge of aluminum platter.

Here is the painful part...I had just installed a new SMMC 3 cartridge. I figure the table thought it was a LP because of standard spindle and weight, so lesson learned.

In a complete panic, stopped it...maybe rode on platter edge no more than two seconds and inspected under my microscope uneed high power (old lab scope, 32x magnification).

Diamond needle appears to be OK, no chips, cracks. After cleaning it with brush, the bottom of needle appears OK.

Played a few records and sounds OK.

So my question, has anyone done that ? And by the sounds of it, is my $300 needle OK and I'm just BS paranoid? Or reason for concern?

Thanks,

Steve

I would think you would hear it immediately if it was not ok. My MMC4 needle had an "accident" when I was not at home, but it sounded awful since then. I will have to save up and send it to Germany to get it fixed (and upgraded while I am at it).

I hope yours is well!

Thanks my friend! Yeah, it seems like it's OK. I have looked at it under my microscope (old lab salvage, the microscope, glad I saved it!) under 125x and such and diamond tip looks good, no chipping, cracks etc. Separate issue, the pre-amp I am using sucks...getting a better one, but other than that, I think all is well.

Sorry to hear about your MMC4. Best of luck getting it fixed!

Cheers,

Steve

Glad to hear! What kind of pre-amp are you having, and what kind are you getting? I might want to connect a BG4000 in one of my link rooms, so I also will be looking for a good pre-amp to do right by it. I see many of these kind of amps, very affordable, and also more vintage models, but I do not know it they are any good.
