Keith got the read of the time outs and the forum is faster and more reliable.

Now I have some suggestions that may make browsing a little faster and some ideas for pics onsite.

Many of us are working on laptops and dont get the whole picture on the screen, I use normally a 14"

Archived forums can be moved to main menu, and Forums headers to where Archived forums is now, then we can see the Forums, and topics and maybe members online in one screen without scrolling

You can then click the main forum where you want to go, and getting there choose sub forum, or go by topics

The Forum menu has been moved and in this space we put as shown in the pic

When posting pics from files, you cant see or choose all files, when making a thread with more pics, you have to select your Soren or Media file, then sub file and then your pic, then posting next pic in the thread you are making, you will have to do it all over again to get to the same file as before.

It would be easier if one gets back to the same file as last time one posted

Furthermore, when posting a pic, the write pane goes to the beginning of the thread, writing long threads, after posting a pic one has to scroll down to the end to continue writing PIB

This is a pair of my ideas, I dont know if its possible to make it.

Anyone with similar suggestions please post, and maybe Keith has some remarks to clear us up.

I agree that the forum seems to work much better now and your suggestions would be a huge improvement
to the general forum feel and function.
Keith can change some issues, details, looks and functions but not all.
The kernel software cannot be changed and I'm not sure how many of those particuar details form part of the kernel.

As noted by Søren, I worked late into the night making the suggested changes to the forum and I, and the moderating team are always happy to receive CONSTRUCTIVE proposals such as the items suggested by Søren.

As indicated by Martin, some things I cannot change because they are part of the core system which we do not have the Telligent source code, therefore changes in these areas are not possible. I do have the source code for about 60% of the forum and those elements, whilst many are very complex, can be changed where it will improve the overall service to members.

I can confirm that I have made some further code changes related to INSERT MEDIA as below

When selecting images from either your own account file area as I did below or from any directory or sub-directory of the MEDIA section, then you can now see all available directories and files when the directory tree is expanded. Also the window itself has slightly greater height.

I suggest that no inserted image is greater than 800 wide, having said that I have allowed the system to accept larger images.

You will also notice that I have added better instructions at the top of the Window on how to expand and insert an image.

Regards Keith....

Lovely, but where has the "Who is online" page and its relevant link gone to? The new list is about as useful as the green bars!

I seem to recall that when the first reskin went active back in 2011, that the page in question was mapped akin to the original forum before the reskinning was killed. That was a much more useful format.

The link is missing, the page itself not:

While writing this, I remembered what I've been missing all the years I've been here: automatic link creation for URLs in the post. That might be one of the things that can't be implemented without the source, though...

THANK YOU!

Now, if we could just get it retrograded to the earlier list with a time stamp! Big Smile

Dear Keith,

I still miss the working "post You have not read", or the "go to the latest post" option on the topics in the topic list.

Thanks.

the "go to the latest post" option on the topics in the topic list.

You mean like the "Latest post by" link below every thread title? Confused

You are right, the description was bad, of course I meant the "last UNREAD post". Thank You for the correction!

Well done, Keith! The image upload instructions were very welcome, and the forum feels snappier nowadays! :)

I still miss some basic features though, such as "go to first unread post" etc. The absence of this function is the main reason to why I don't visit the forum as much as I used to do before the Lifestyle take-over. I still think that Beoworld is a great site and I love this community, but the fact that the forum software lacks some IMHO crucial features makes it, in my opinon, too cumbersome to visit frequently. I like "my" forums to be fast and easy to browse :) The main site got soooo much better when Lee et al took over, but I miss the old forum (not the first forum, but the second one).

But as I said, very good work with the server performance - it's much faster now!

I've been asking for this function since day one, so I guess it is impossible to implement it. Most other suggestions that I and other have had have been quickly implemented by Keith, but not this one - that's why I guess it's difficult to implement.

So have I :) (but thanks anyway!), but that was not relly what I meant. In most other forums that I visit it works like this: if you press the icon to the left of a thread title you'll get to the first new post in that thread. Not necessarily the latest post, but the first unread post. It's very handy!

No, please check, the filter "New since last visit" is not working. This way there is no way to filter neither the unread topics, nor the unreaded messages.
