Hello Beoworlders

I finally took the plunge, and bought myself an Essence to replace my Sonos setup. First impressions are very positive. Even if I still need to get used to the BeoMusic app.

I now have the Essence with a passive in the kitchen, and a V1 in the living room, and it's working fine. Tomorrow I am going to install the IR Eye for the Essence. Looking forward to it!

I have some questions which I hope you can help me with.

- Is it possible to distribute signals from hdmi sources of the V1 to the Essence? E.g. The sound signal of a STB or a Chromecast which are connected to hdmi? I can't add these sources to the Essence in the BeoMusic app: no + appears.

- the Essence has Chromecast functionality. In the TuneIn app, I can tap on the Chromecast icon, and select to cast to the Essence. However, in the Spotify app, I only see Spotify Connect on the Essence. I don't see the Essence as a Chromecast device. Is this normal?

- I know I can't distribute Spotify from the Essence to the V1 (unless I use Airplay). Would it be an idea to buy a Chromecast Audio and connect this one to the V1 via Spdif? Would I then be able to cast from Spotify to the Chromecast Audio, and distribute that signal to the Essence?

A lot of questions to really get the best out of the Essence! Looking forward to your feedback!

On the android spotify app, after tapping on 'devices available', I see the essence listed as a spotify connect device, but there is also a sub-menu (accessed by pressing the three dots icon to the right of that entry) which then allows me to choose whether I want to use spotify connect or google cast for the essence.

Hi Jan,

Congrats on the essence.  My impressions are also very positive.  You can use the BeoSetup app or you can manually enter the IP address of the essence in your browser and you will be able to adjust the settings of the essence.

The V1 from my memory is the same system as the Avant and as the BV11 - and therefore is multriroom capable.

Therefore if something is playing on the V1 - if it is attached, it becomes what is known as the "multi room experience".  If you had a different product say an A6, A9, or a BS1 - you would tap the device and it would join the multi room experience.  There is no source setting for that on the app, just the ability to disable it from your product.

Since you have an essence and you cant tap it , start the BeoMusic app, hold it in horizontal, tap your V1 and then tap your essence.

I have never used Chromecast, but if I go in to my tune in app I press the cast button on the top right and My BeoSound essence is there in the "connect to" list. I have saved the friendly name of my essence as "Beolab 3" - so when I cast to the BL3 it says in the TuneIn app "Casting to BeoLab 3"

In the BeoSetup app , you don't add any credentials to Google Cast.  In my source list, I have enabled TuneIn, Music, QPlay, Spotify (I don't use it), Bluetooth and Line In.  And all of the link services, I have de selected, as I don't understand those.  They are all the link services from my avant.  But if I have them enabled, it starts those sources, which I don't want to do from the essence.  (I think).

In the BeoSetup app under sound > speaker setup - make sure you select your speakers

If you're playing Spotify from your essence, you can select join on your remote and it will push it to your TV.  For example, I was playing TuneIn on my A6 (Tune In Connect - the built in service), and selected join from my remote and then it joined the multi room experience.

Good luck

Michael.

Network Link TVs/BeoPlay V1 can offer sound distribution from either music or TV sources. Your television and the products you can link to must all be connected to the same network (router),

To link to sources from other products you must set up the products, in the LINK TO OTHER PRODUCTS menu. Bring up: ‘SETUP’ – ‘PRODUCT INTEGRATION’ – ‘LINK TO OTHER PRODUCTS’ press the red button and follow on-screen instructions.

Your V1 must be updated with software version 1.0.8.36550 or higher and WAKE ON LAN must be set to ON, in the television NETWORK menu.

The Chromecast Audio (or rather the input on the V1) will afterwards be in the List of sourses in the Beomusic app.

In order to play/cast to multiple Chromecast devices you must first group these in the Google Home app.

Afterwards you can choose the group (the Chromecast Audio on V1 and the Essence) in the Cast menu - and play to it from Spotify.

This is not a NL-distribution, but for time being the only way to do it....if you prefer casting.

Hi Jans,

You can add every source of your V1 to the Essence (Beolink) , and HDMI connected gear who is connected to your V1. It just takes some time to start up ( some 15-20 sec) on the Essence.

Have you got the correct cable between your Passive and Essence? I tried with a third party cable and it was given me a 'plop' every time I fired up the Essence and Passive.

Hi Chris

I already tried to answer but it probably went into moderation. Don't know why.

My problem has been solved. On the V1 I had to enable 'sound of video sources' in the Product Integration menu. Now everything works perfect!

My dealer was aware of the specific cable needed to connect a Passive to the Essence. So we tested the cable in the shop to make sure it worked. That is real customer service!

I noted that you also connected an IR eye to the Essence and control it with a Remote One. Do you know if this also works with a Beo4?

Yes, the Beo4 works as should with the IR-eye but you can only control the sources on the Essence with a Beo4 + IR-eye.

Otherwise you can use the Beomusic app to activate Beolink sources coming from your V1 to the Essence.

If you want to control everything by remote (Essence sources and Beolink sources) is the only solution the BROne + IR-eye.
