I think I already know the answer, but here goes: Is it possible to assign the TV button to any other AV source on the BV7-32 MKIII, so in a way let the tv know that coax is not in use?

Like most people, I have digital TV from a set top box, and have not used TV via coax since 2008. Which means I have only two hard buttons on my Beo4 remote left for sources: DTV and V.MEM. I would like to add another source, but the whole list > DVD2 thing is not really working for my girlfriend.

I thought I read somewhere that newer beovision models allow for this, does anyone know which was the first model to integrate that possibility?

I will probably die trying to optimise the user experience of my old MCL system, but so far it has been a lot of fun figuring out what is possible!

Thanks in advance.

You can set one of the AV inputs to be a Decoder, then simply set up a single 'fake' TV channel that needs a decoder.  Pressing TV then selects this input.

With software 30.08 it is possible to deactivate the analog tuner and then assign the TV button to other sources. I can confirm this for my BV7-32 MK3 and the fore mentioned SW version.

Thank you both for the suggestions! I will check my sw version.

@Guy, do you have a bit more information on how to set up a TV channel to use a decoder?

MJBeo:

@Guy, do you have a bit more information on how to set up a TV channel to use a decoder?

- Connect the new input you want to AV1 or AV2.  I think the DECODER function is only available on these two inputs, hence you may have to move one of your current STBs to AV3 or another input.

- In the CONNECTIONS menu, change the corresponding input (AV1 or AV2) to DECODER.  Then select TV and go to the TUNING menu.  Delete all the channels other than 1.  Go to TV Manual Tuning and for Channel one scroll down to the EXTRA choice and press OK, whereupon you will see a page where you can select DECODER to ON.  Store with OK.  (Note that on the previous manual tune screen you can also give the 'station' a name (eg APPLE TV) that will display at the top of the screen when you press TV.

- Pressing TV will now select your new AV input!

But keep in mind that the decoder trick Guy mentioned does only work for the AV sockets, not for the DVI or Component socket.

I feared as much. Still a good trick for connecting e.g. my playstation 2.

I just checked, I have SW 7.5 (IC3) and SW 22.0 (IC2). It would be great to be able to upgrade to 30.08, also because then I can add a dvi (hdmi) switch and have more inputs, but my dealer was not sure if he would be able to do get the chip, and he was also sure that it was not worth the investment for this screen. And because I understand from previous posts here that I cannot do a software upgrade myself, I will have to look for a BV7-32 or 40 with more digital inputs and the right software, which would solve the issue. I have never seen a 7-32 with hdmi on the second hand market, so they are either rare or they are of such good quality that people do not want to part with them.

Ok, IC3 (two eproms) are still available. I updgraded my BV7-32 MK3 last year in november. If you decide to upgrade IC3 I would upgrade the AC3 module to SW 3.01a at the same time to be up-to-date.

Officially SW 7.94 is the latest SW for the MK3 sets, but you can update to 30.08a without any problem. Simply tell your dealer to do so.

I think it is only worth the upgrade if you can change the eproms yourself or have someone who can do it for you without paying money for it.

Changing the eproms myself and let the dealer update the software and the PUC table with the service tool was around 75€ in my case !

I wouldn't rely on the hdmi switcher functionality in combination with gefen hdmi switchers. It didn't work for me with my two BV7-32 MK3 and my BV7-40 MK2.

Instead I now use inexpensive hdmi switchers with auto-switch function. It works without any problem via DVI input.

Getting a BV7-32 MK5 is not only very expensive compared to your MK3, it's quite impossible to get them as there are only very few on the second life market, as you already found out.

From my point of view it doesn't make sense to spend so much money on a MK5 to only have real hdmi inputs, as except the hdmi inputs, everything else on these sets is very much outdated nowadays.

Hi Martin, thank you for the details!

Where did you get the IC3? From the dealer? And were they expensive? I can do it myself I guess, I have done more complicated repairs and soldering on B&O. I will ask my dealer again. I wanted to go for a simple switch with IR remote, so I can change the source with my lintronic box. Should be easy.

And I will take your advice on the MK5, and only do the upgrade if I also decide to go for a bigger TV (for that I need to persuade the girlfriend first though).
