Good day all,

I'm looking for some advice regarding what headphones I should connect to my Beosystem? I have the bed master 5500 amplifier.

Any advice and direction most welcome.

Regards,

Jonathan

What are you expectations, your budget and do they have to be B&O headphones?

Sorry, had online issues, unbelievable in this day and age eh?

It's more a question of what's suitable, iv heard the you need certain pre amp equipment so just want to make sure I don't get something I can't use. It doesn't have to be B&O and I'm not put off by age (so far).

If you have any personal experience I'd be very interested.

Thanks for your reply.

My expectations are a headphone listening experience that is better than an MP3. I know il loose something from the speakers but I want to hear the depth of my vinyl and my CDs.if I can't get that il just listen to spotify when my wife wants to watch the TV and save the good stuff for when I listen through the speakers.

I use Sennheiser HD600s - comfortable, great sound, easy to drive and mine were very cheap. Better than any B&O headphones. Also have some Grado RS1s given by a good friend. Possibly better sound but not as comfortable - the former are  over ear and the Grados are  on ear headphones.

Thank you Peter, would both those examples fit straight to the system i have or would I need an adaptor or a peripheral?

The HD600 will plug directly in - standard small jack - the RS1 comes with the necessary adapter. The RS1 is easier to drive but the 5500 can drive either perfectly well. I do have a headphone amplifier but don't find any real need to use it.

As you want to enjoy the music in all details it's hard to hear but do not buy  B&O headphones. They are very nice if you are traveling etc. but not for home use.

A few very good headphones with high detail and resolution are very cheap nowadays and are a pleasure to the ears.

Beyerdynamic DT-880 pro

The K701 is revised and has a new headband which is more comfortable than the old one.

Your ears may need to adapt to one of the above headphones as they are tuned nearly neutral for studio / hifi usage. ;-)

Please keep in mind that most current modern "lifestyle" headphones (like the Beoplay range) do not have a very neutral tuning and have too much bass etc. Seems to be a current trend as the customers like it but has nothing to do with Hifi, natural reproduction etc.

Yes, I have Beoplay H6 and H3, too, but I don't use them at home. At home I'm using an AKG K701 which will be accompanied soon by a K712 pro or K702.

Just try the headphones and let your ears decide with your music which one you prefer. Listen to them without any sound adjustments and not at too high levels as your brain tends to prefer the louder things and get biased. :-)

I'm with Peter here, if your budget stretches to it the HD600's are the way to go. They have been around for a long time now and are still considered a benchmark of performance and neutrality among audiophiles. There will be 'phones that are better but at a dis-proportionally higher price.

They are not suited to music on the move because of their sound "leakage" but for inhouse listening are among the best.

I did read something recently (I'm too lazy to try to find it again)! which said something like, "you can spend a lifetime experimenting and comparing different headphones or you can go straight to the final choice (HD600) and just enjoy the music, confident in just how good they are".

Thank you for the advice, I will investigate your recommendations.

One more question, iv just tested my father's Bose phones and although the sound comes through good it doesn't isolate the speakers. Is there are simple way of doing this on a Beosystem?

One quick reference of my handbook has solved that, I was using speak out 2 instead of 1.

Thanks all!
