Hi,
What would be easiest vs sound quality setup for Beolab 9 be?
Would this work: chromecast audio -> toslink/pl converter -> beolab's?
How would the on/off be controlled?
Anyone with experiences?
Thanks,
Dave
Lab 9 has a standard RCA jack which is line level. So yes your chromecast would be best connected via a DAC outputs analogue audio. Never mind PL.
Now for volume control is the issue, as the Lab 9s are active, all incoming audio is played at full scale so it needs to be dimmed before reaching them. So either control it via Chromecast or if the resolution is too low get a combination DAC/preamp. Most decent AV receivers these days have reletivtly good DAC and preamp outs.
on/off when set to "line" mode detects incoming audio and switches the amplifier on. After some time ~5mins of no audio it automatically switches off.
Ah. So, if i connect directly from a chromecast, then volume would depend on the volume from the iphone/mac source, right?
Getting a (preused) Playmaker and connecting analog-out of the ChromeCastAudio to the line-in of it, would be the most convenient way to do such a setup.
The line-in has auto-sense, and you can use a Beo4 to control the volume.
As for sound quality - the DAC of the CCA is pretty good.
I doubt that using the digital/SPDIF-out with another pre-amp would make any difference.
Just remember to set thesound output of the CCA to 'Full Dynamic Range'.
