Hi everyone!

I have a Beomaster 5500 with a shot mute relay. I also have a couple of similar units that probably will need the relay replaced sometime soon. Now, my question is whether someone has had good or bad experiences with any particular make or kind of that type of relay? If there's a particularly good/recommended one please point me to it.

Thanks!

Well, I know that Martin most definitely can answer my question, but sending him a pm kind of defeats the purpose of the forum, no?

I've been searching the forum and nowhere do I find a discussion on relays, and that's why I ask.

There were one or two discussions regarding relays on the old forum, you will probably find them in the archived section.

I use the 6v version of this one

http://www.maplin.co.uk/6-and-12v-5a-miniature-relays-2525

not because it is particlarly good on quality or price but mainly because ordering is convenient.

I too can vouch for the Maplin relay.I've been fitting them for years with no problems later.

You need to cut off two pins,as it's changeover relay and won't fit to the board with the extra pins in place, but otherwise it's fine.Take care with desoldering,as the printed circuit is easily damaged around the relay site.

I’ve found that I have some static sound when I first unmute my BeoSystem 6500. If I adjust the volume, I can break through the poor connection and get clean sound. It doesn’t take a lot of changes to do so, so at least I can still get some use of the system while waiting to replace the relays. Just something to try to buy some time before you complete your replacement.

With the sad demise of Maplin Electronics here in the U.K.another source of suitable relay's is Farnell.

I understand that the modern equivalent of the original Omron relay is also now obsolescent,so I've been using a Finder relay, which seems to work quite happily .

CPC (Farnell) part No is SW02485.

Hi Nick, just read your post and could not find relay you suggested on Farnell, can you possibly advise me on any other replacement relay for my BM6500. I have lost right channel on Speakers output 1 (via relay) speakers 2 output works ok, mute button clicks relay and after a few times both channels sometimes work on speaker output 1.

Still available from CPC(SW02485).Farnell is their parent company, but if you search on the Farnell site,it will be under a different part No.

The Finder reference No is 4052-9006.If you search for that, you will probably be offered other suppliers too!

I just ordered two this weekend to replace a bad mute relay.
