I have a generic (that is non-B&O specific) speaker question.
I have a pair of Fisher XP66 speakers that do not have a single Fisher component in them. These speakers were a gift from my father when I was 15 and I would like to keep them…. as a memento.
All speakers plus the cross-over networks were replaced in the eighties by my McIntosh dealer.
I have two tweeters out and a mid-range and I would like to replace the four speakers. So how do I go about this and where do I source these speakers?
Aside from the sentimental aspect of this bookshelf pair, the replacement Bozak 12” woofers are marvelous, one of my absolute favourites.
I am not trying for a “real” restoration, just get the mid-range and upper range back.
Since nothing matches, I assume I primarily need to measure the size of the speakers and go with 8 ohm replacements, as that is what these speakers are.
So how do I proceed from here?
Keep in mind I am not attempting to make concourse speakers, just balance the sound quality a bit.

I have been having an awful time acquiring speakers for my "collection" of B&O receivers.
As such I am using the tattered Fishers from my ill-spent teenage years.
These speakers are technically a mess, Bozak woofers, Scott mid-ranges, Fisher tweeters, and Scott crossover networks. With such a collection of unrelated parts testing for values is all but useless.
My goal is to find replacement speakers for the mid-range and tweeters that simple fit the cabinets to improve the overall sound quality. The Bozak woofers are nothing short of FANTASTIC!
These are the speakers that I use to "balance" the base lacking MC120.2 speakers for my Beolab/Beomaster 5000.
I will check out your much appreciated suggestions this week.

Jeff - Pretty cool that you're hoping to restore these speakers for sentimental reasons.
Along with sourcing the correct size to find the current speaker cabinets without modifications, there are a few other things that you'll probably need to think about as well to select appropriate replacement drivers.
Along with size, you'll want to make sure that the new drivers have the same (or as nearly the same as possible)
Same impedance (4Ohm, 8Ohm, etc)
Same frequency range (80Hz-5KHz or say 2KHz-20Khz, etc.)
Same sensitivity (88db 92db, etc.)
And ideally can produce the same SPL's as the originals.
Assuming that the current drivers have a manufacturer's name on them and part number, it should be pretty easy to look up the details.

Sentimental reasons? Well I guess that is a good part of my motivation as I "grew up" with these speakers. The other part is geographical reality, that is to say when you live on an island, as I do (Vancouver Island) it distorts pricing on most everything.
I have been looking for speakers for several years on eBay, but shipping costs or the dreaded "Free pick-up only" stipulation rears its ugly head. But looking locally is all but pointless as folks on this island firmly believe that the "old stuff" they have had collecting dust is now worth a not so small fortune.
Back to these speakers of mine, they started life as Fisher XP66 8 ohm speakers. I had them rebuilt by the local McIntosh dealer that clearly did not see much value in them, so they just popped in whatever would fit and/or what they had laying about the shop.
What I really LOVE about these speakers (fond memories notwithstanding) are the Bozak 12" woofers. Primitive looking puppies but with delicious sounding BASS.

Now if I could just find suitable mid-ranges and tweeters I might really have something. Nothing that would impress a true audiophile, but more than eough to add something positive to my morning routine.
