Hi,

I hope someone can help, I have a Beosystem 7000 (Beomaster 7000, Beogram 7000, Beogram CD 7000 & Beocord 7000) connected to a pair of Pentalab 2 speakers. My problem is display on both speakers recognises component playing and nominal volume it's playing at but, unfortunately, regardless of whether the displayed volume is 0 or 80 no sound is coming out from either speaker. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be and how I go about rectifying it.

There is also no sound output from headphone socket which obviously points to an amplifier problem rather than a speaker problem. Speakers are connected via speakerlink not powerlink cables.

I posted similarly before mistakenly stating Pentalab 1's; I have downloaded setup and service manuals but these offer little or no diagnostic information. Desperately need advice on thi please.

All help appreciated.

Regards,

Robin

Have you tried connecting passive speakers on the 2p DIN output, and why don't you use Powerlink instead of Speakerlink?

Leslie,

1) Don't have any passive speakers available & 2) don't have powerlink cables.

Think cables are probably a red herring though given that headphones have no output either.

Thanks for suggestions though.

Look at the back of the BM7000. There should be a 7 pin socket with a plastic plug in it. Is the plug missing?

Peter,

Dummy plug in line in/out socket has, to the best of my knowledge never been removed and is certainly present now.

Robin, has your Beolab switch set to audio? Not sure the fact that your headphone does not give any sound your Beomaster has a  defect. Maybe you should try a PL cable to make sure...

Actually you do, if you disconnect the amps from the Pentas...

...but it's a lot of work, and as you say, the problem most probably is far upstream if the headphone socket has no sound either.

Do you hear a relay click in the Beomaster if you toggle the mute function on/off, or insert/remove the headphone plug?

Leslie,

If I can get hold of a Mk 2 Powerlink cable I will give it a go; Pentalab 2 does not have an audio switch - has 3 switches, Input Level (1, 2 or 3), Mode (Off, Auto, Left or Right) and Bass Extension (1, 2 or 3)

Cheers,

Robin

Mika,

Toggling mute switch on/off gives an audible relay click, inserting/removing headphone plug doesn't seem to. I can't remember if system used to visually indicate when system was muted - certainly doesn't now.

I've never seen active Pentas in action, so I'm not sure either if they show muting somehow... But I believe the volume display should change to "--" when mute is on?

What I'm getting at is that it might be a problem in the headphone socket. Inserting a plug there will mute the speakers connected to #1 outputs, and the same relay should click as when you use mute manually. I suppose you can't try the Pentas in #2 sockets since the Speakerlink cables have four pins?

The headphones should still always work, but I guess the source of all problems could be a loose connector inside. Have you transported / moved the units since they worked the last time?

Robin,

There's a switch under the Beolab amp for setting Audio or Video!

That switch only determines whether the digital display works or not, it has no effect on the audio!

Mika,

System has been moved since last used but I have all the original packaging and everything packed and move with great (loving) care. I have had a quick lok inside unit and can not readily identify any loose/damaged connectors.
