Hi All

I have borrowed an M5 from my dealer, but I am not happy with the sound.

Today I have a BS3000 connected to a set of CX100's via an Passive AMP.

If I instead get an Essence MKII, and use this instead of the BS3000, would I get multiroom just like the M5 in the bedroom ?

I have never gotten to know what the Essence can actually do, and how it would appear on the Link tab of the Moment, and in the Beomusic ?

I know I will loose the "touch" functionality of the M5 with the Essence, and that might be the deal breaker.

The other option is to buy an A6 instead, it has better sound than the M5.

The M5 sound great when it is "loud", but when waking me up in the morning at low volume, it is very bassy and mumbly if the radio hosts talk :)

3'rd option is to wait for the EQ option for the M5.

I have seen a second hand Essence MKII including two remotes (wall and table), at the price of an A6.

What would you do ?

I would do nothing - I don't want any music system to wake me up in the morning ;-)

Therefore I can't tell you what to choose. Besides I don't know the size of the room, your need for sound, sound pressure etc....

However, if you are happy with the current speaker setup there - why not just swap the BS3000 with the BS Essence (2nd gen)!

It will act just as the M5 when it comes to multiroom functions.

The 'touch' functionality is in the wheely/remote - and even better, since you can place that right next to your bed.

Alternatively you could add an ir-eye to the Essence box and use your existing remote.

The Essence is the mother of the B&O multiroom experience!

The Essence Mk2.

Fairly useful for multiroom outside the main traditional B&O AV setup. Offices, kitchen, bedrooms.

It can wake you up with music or an alarm. This is complex, i.e. will take multiple instructions. Radio1 on at 0700, off at 0800, mon-Fri. Radio 2 on at 0900 sat and so on.. Timer off on current programming.

Needs a NAS for own store music or a Bluetooth source. Needs a Deezer, Spotify ot Tunein account. Links accounts to other Essences/A6/A9is on the same Beomusic App account automatically.

I would use Essence where either you require a more formal setup with good loudspeakers or have spare B&O actives doing little. I use an Essence with a pair of BL3s in the office and one essence with BL4is in the master bedroom. An Essence remote is required with this setup unless you want to do it longhand with an IR Eye and a Beo4. Therefore add GBP175 to a GBP550 Essence.

If you don't have spare speakers or want more of a standalone sound arrangement then A6/A9/M5 is what you need.

You can either feed the Essence into the Aux of the BS3000 and keep your speakers as is.

You can pump the line out of the BS3000 to the Essence and connect your speakers (RJ45) to the Essence. Eitherway, try to test the quality before you commit.

I have a BC9500 which took a Playmaker into Aux and BL3's from the BC out. Sounded OK. Pumping a BC to the Essence Line-in did not work, but pumping the BC9500 Powerlink to the Essence Line-in was better. Essence only in a digital domain is superior though.

Thank..

I really like the sound from my CX100's and the Beolink Passive Amp, the BS3000 will be replaced by the Essence. I have a Moment in the living room, and would like to be able to "join in" both places.

I guess the Essence MKII is a really good substitute then...

That is off course, if it can supply power signal to the Beolink Passive Amp to get it to turn on :)

I have been woken by music since 1991 with my first Beosystem 7000 :)

As I wrote in another response, I guess the Essence really is the way to go.. I will take a look at it

Thank you

Hi Jacob

The Essence is able to switch the Passive on/off through a Powerlink Cable. You need to ask your dealer to get the right cable since a normal one apparently will not work.

I have this setup working at home. Works perfectly!

  • Neither Was I

Today I have a BS3000 connected to a set of CX100's via an Passive AMP.

  • Yes

I have never gotten to know what the Essence can actually do, and how it would appear on the Link tab of the Moment, and in the Beomusic ?

  • It incorporates as another product.  I have named mine BeoLab 3 as it has the BL3s connected to it.

I know I will loose the "touch" functionality of the M5 with the Essence, and that might be the deal breaker.

  • You can get a Bluetooth remote so you can get the touch back.  Or if you have an existing BeoRemote, you can buy an IR eye which I did and it connects to the essence using your remote control - and also on the eye - so you have 2 controls.

The other option is to buy an A6 instead, it has better sound than the M5.

  • Correct, but you wont get to use your existing speakers.  I love the A6 but i would get something different now.

The M5 sound great when it is "loud", but when waking me up in the morning at low volume, it is very bassy and mumbly if the radio hosts talk :)

3'rd option is to wait for the EQ option for the M5.
