All

since last week I am a very proud and satisfied owner of a V1!

The set-up is great with excellent picture quality and great sound. Apple TV works like a charm, and music is playing through my Beolabs 8000.

I also connected my Sonos via digital coax (SPDIF). This works perfect with a small inconvenience. The soundprocessing of the V1 causes a small delay between the music which I play in my living room via Sonos and the V1, and the music a play in my kitchen directly from the Sonos.

Any suggestions from the forum how to get things synchronised again?

I previously played my Sonos through a Beosound 3200 and a Beovision 6, and didn't have any delays then.

Looking forward to your replies!

Was the sonos connected to your beovision 6 or your beosound before?

In my previous setup, the Sonos was connected via Aux to the Beosound. The Beosound was connected via masterlink to the BV6. The Beolabs were connected to the BV6.

The entire setup was analogue.

In the new setup, the Sonos is digitally connected to the V1. Maybe the delay is caused by V1 digital to analogue processing. Would it help if I would connect the Sonos via AV instead of via SPDIF?

What happens if you try picture mute?

I've been wondering whether P.Mute reduces audio latency as I'm planning on adding a projector to my V1 setup. I have my suspicions that it won't sadly. Does anybody have any ideas on how I could delay the video signal (split at source) so that the projector is synchronised with the slightly late audio coming from the V1?

Thanks, Jonathan

Hi Jonathon

I'm guessing that your source for the V1 and projector would likely be a Bluray player of some kind.  Usually there is a means within the setup of the Bluray player to adjust for lip synch.

For example, I'm currently using a Sony Bluray player with my V1, connected by HDMI for picture and sound, but as I don't have any B&O speakers as yet, am running an RCA/SPDIF lead from the Bluray player for audio, back to my current ES Sony amp + passive speakers.

If I monitor the picture and sound from the V1, via the Bluray player over HDMI, everything is in synch, but with the V1 volume turned down and listening to the surround sound via the SPDIF connection from the Bluray player to the separate ES Sony amp, I get lip synch issues.

I've resolved these by adjusting the lip synch feature within the player - the amp also has a lip synch feature, but there is none on the V1 that I'm aware of.  However, the lip synch feature in the player is enough to resolve the issue, and my SPDIF lead is one made up for my previous setup, and is around 10 metres long.

I appreciate that your setup will be likely different to mine, but hope this is of some help.

BTW, how is the singing coming along?

I'm a high baritone, and a huge fan of Dietrich Fischer Dieskau and Lieder.... amongst others....  Smile

HTH

Kind Regards

John... Cool

Hi John

the lip sync issue is similar to the latency I experience with my Sonos. The V1 sound processing adds a delay which causes lip sync for you, or echo-effects when I play my Sonos in party mode.

Lucky for you, you could manage it by tuning your player. However, this is not possible on my Sonos system.  Any suggestions how I can shorter/eliminate the latency on the V1 side? Since there is no video processing involved, I would expect that some of the audio settings have longer latency than others.

Any suggestions?

How did you connect your BeoLab 8000 to the V1? Did you use an active unbalance->balance converter?

You could try setting up the input with Game Mode on - this bypasses the processor to reduce any lag

I get a very small echo between my BV5 and the BC 6 which is masterlinked to it. There is obviously a slight difference in the processing times of each TV, so presumably even B&O cannot develop all it's TV's to process pictures and sound at precisely the same moment.

I've often wondered whether there is a simple signal delay piece of equipment that could be placed just upstream of an aerial input so that TV outputs could be precisely synchronised.

Best ask your B&O service department on if you can and if its appropriate to remove the 50ms delay in your setup. Masterlink has this timer set.

Hope that may help.

Hi John, thanks for that. I'll investigate the settings on the Playstation when I get a chance. The singing is going alright thanks - I've just agreed to sing a couple at a gig I was just due to be playing bass on in a month so that will be my debut... doing a bit of a Sting. Eek!

I will check this week-end if I can reduce the V1 latency by using the "Game" video setting and the "Custom 1:1" Audio setting.  In case the latency still remains too high to use my Sonos in party mode, I am considering to buy a Bosscom Powerlink Switch.  http://eu.beo-parts.eu/beo/powerlink-switch-1.html

Anybody on the forum has experience with this Switch? Will it resolve the latency issue?

regards

Jan

Hi Jans

Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any feature in the setup of the V1 that may be able to assist you as regards latency between picture and sound.

I'm also slightly handicapped, in that I'm not familiar with the Sonos system, and as a newcomer to B&O my knowledge of many of their products and product setup is still on something of a learning curve.

I would think the person most placed to help in the initial instance would be your dealer, who would have access to the technical personnel who may be able to assist - there could be something in the service menu of the set for instance to assist you.

On the other hand, there may be someone here with the requisite knowledge, but unfortunately I am at a loss this time to be able to assist regretfully.

Apologies, and I do hope it works out for you - please let us know how you get on.

Kind regards

John... Cool

Forget about using the S/P diff connection. Connect your sonos to AV in instead and use Picture mute. The processing is AFAIK not possible to change. Another solution would be to use the BL8000 sorely for music (connectiong SONOS to BL8000 using line) and then have your tv sound comming only from the V1.
