Hi everyone,
After recently moving to a new city (which involved certain jostling of my possessions inherent to moving), my beloved Beogram 4004 is acting funny.
Before the move, it worked flawlessly (with the exception that sometimes it wouldn't know the 'end' of a record).
Now, as soon as I plug it in, the small "B&O" logo lights up, and the tray begins spinning at full-speed (without pressing any buttons; it's as soon as it gets power).
The 33/45 buttons do change the speed, and the up/down button causes the arm to click. The start/stop buttons do nothing, nor do the left/right arm buttons which control the arm.
I have tried it with and without a record on the tray (I have to put the record on when it is unplugged, since it would be spinning otherwise). This doesn't seem to effect anything.
Also - it's running through my Beomaster 2400 - which it has always done under my ownership (and I believe since it was first purchased new).
Any ideas what could have gone wrong? Hope to have it running again soon !
Thank you!
Oooh er!!!!
It seems as though the unit has suffered some shock in transit, although it may simply be a loose wiring loom connector etc?
I think you will have to take the top plate off and check for any obvious wayward components, connectors,or even damage to the main board. It's worth disconnecting and reconnecting the looms at the board,as the pins become oxidised over the years, and the move may have exascerbated this?
There could also be a "foreign body",eg debris or loose material shorting something vital?
A good visual peep around inside around is always the first step.
Could the shippers have been a bit rough with it?
Nick
I was the shipper!
Thank you for your help! The unit certainly didn't suffer from any major trauma like being dropped, though the tray could definitely be heard bouncing in the housing during the 5 hour car ride (due to the suspension system of the tray). In retrospect I probably should have better secured the tray so it didn't bounce around so much.
Sounds like it's time to open 'er up. I've never actually opened it before, though I feel reasonably confident in this type of thing. Is there a recommended online guide (etc) that I can follow?
Thanks!
You could upgrade your membership of this site to gain access to the service manual.Rest assured though, that there is a growing community of enthusiasts available here, with a wealth of knowledge available.
Also,have a look at www.beolover.com,for detailed info from a specialist B&O restorer.
Regards,
There are transit locks underneath you tighten those for transit
Transit screws - yikes !!! I feel like a dumbass.
I actually do have the owners manual, so I will have to take a more thorough look this weekend. Beolover also looks like a great resource!
If there are any other online tutorials/informational guides/etc please let me know. Thanks for your help!
