Hello all,

I am trying to integrate a BeoSystem 5000 (1982 pizza box) to my beolink set up. Unfortunatly due to the fact that BeoMaster 5000 is not MCL compatible I can not connect it to a NL/ML converter (using the A.Aux to ML converter type 1611) and have control of the system, I though that swapping the BeoMaster 5000 to a MCL compatible BeoMaster i.e. 5500 or 6500 would solve the problem.

Any ideas?

Thank you for the responses

You Can use both (also BM7000) Visually the 5500 would be perfect solution, but functional 6500 and 7000 has some advantages if you have active speakers with display.

Probably best to look for a BM6500 or 7000 as there were a few subtle bugs in the Beolink system when employed with BM5500.Several software updates were made, and you may buy one that doesn't have this.

The link system is quite versatile when the BM 6500  is employed. The '7000 is virtually that same chassis, but may incorporate RDS and of course be optimised for use with the BL7000 remote control.

It doe'snt seem as though you need these options,so the '6500 would suffice?

Nick

To coin a phrase, I agree with Nick!  The 5500 doesn't work perfectly with an MCL2 system unless it has a software update - I know as I tried this! The 5500 is however a great device as it has oodles of connections!

Could someone please elaborate on what the MCL/ML bugs could be with a 5500? I've been interested in using a 5500 to control a Beogram turntable via converting to ML and then connecting to an NL converter. I'm wondering if these bugs could cause an issue with the Beogram control.

Thank you for all the replies!!! :-) So, to sum it up:

Swapping a Beomaster 5000 with a:

5500 you get MCL but with some glitches in the system

6500 you get MCL without any serious bugs

7000 as in 6500 plus RDS and optimisation with beolink 7000

In all situations you get full control of BeoCord 5000, BeoGram 5000 and BeoGram CD50.

Can someone confirm the above information?

Confirmed sir!

The link problems were subtle, mainly as ever, because the designers couldn't possibly predict all the permutations possible, and as seems to be still happening today, the software could'nt cope.

In B&O's defence though, they did provide updates, and had incorporated swap out facilities,so that the e.prom could be changed if necessary. But that was when the product was still supported of course.

The problems I encountered when using mcl/ml conversion with the BM5500 were things such as poor av integration and erratic operation. The ml system is much faster than mcl,and in fairness, the '5500 wasn't designed for it.

Still a great receiver of course!

The earlier firmware revisions (I have one) won't work with MCL at all, so you can call that a rather severe bug Big Smile

I have a beomaster 5500 casing if you want to replace the top casing on your 6500/7000 so it matches aesthetically.

"You think we can slap some oak on this thing?"

I allway's liked MCL Mika,it was robust, and we didn't really see any problems until we tried to integrate video products and control them via the link. The snags seemed to be to do with the beolink inteligence between audio and video product? The configuration guide just seemed to cause more confusion!

This seems to be exascerbated when ML is involved too!

Happy day's,but the BM3500/4500/6500 seemed to have software that overcame the gremlins.

Regards,

Nick
