Guys,

I offer this mea culpa as a "tip" but more for amusement than anything else. We all got to laugh at ourselves now and then. This is one of the thens!

My Beocenter 9000 developed issues with the cassette recorder, in that the cassette stumbled and switched directions repeatedly.

I removed the cassette mechanism and found the belt looked tired. Martin supplied a new belt and I thought problem solved.

Nope, the performance was better, but the problem ( lessened) persisted.

I decided I probably should have lubricated the mechanism when I was in there (you think?) and did so. More improvement, but after a few plays the cassette recorder just gave up.

Now I was really frustrated. Angry

Tried several times and the results were not good.

An old boss of mine once told me if what you are doing doesn't work, you need to try something else. But what?

Having nothing to lose I tried another cassette and it played perfectly to the end of the tape and then reversed. I repeated this FOUR times and each time the cassette recorder played the tape from one end to the other, with the reversing working perfectly.

I had a tired belt and a cassette mechanism in need of lubrication but the real culprit was a bad cassette..... a flawless "looking" professional cassette.

So the Beocenter 9000 added to the successful repair on my Boecord 8004 (thanks to John) makes two in one week.

What a way to start the weekend. Big Smile

Jeff

I was using my Ouverture recently, and puzzling over why the cd player wouldn't work.I was just about to "get technical" when I realised I'd loaded a dvd!!!

This apparently is due to a "senior moment",and I can look forward to more of the same!

As you say,you have to laugh?

Love the Beocentre 9000 btw,so ahead of it's time,and still sound's great.

Thanks Nick,

Somehow when I wrote this is nothing piece, I knew I wasn't alone. I hadn't thought to put in a DVD, but given sufficient time, I can see me doing that as well.

I couldn't agree with you guys (Nick & Martin) more, as the Beocenter 9000 is such a stunning design. After all these years I can't pass mine, even once, without thinking how utterly beautiful it is, and timeless.

In regard to my goof, it is still stupid, but not quite as overt as it might appear.

I had the first hiccup playing a "special" favourite" cassette of mine, "Babalu Music." When the slipping issue became obvious, I tried another tape, but by then, the problem had worsened to the point it didn't matter which tape was used.

Changed the belt (thank you Martin) and lubricated the mechanism, but THEN I went back to my favourite tape not realizing that it was a good part of the problem in the first place.

I changed tape out of frustration not expecting ANY change, but the Beocenter played a 45 minute CHEAP tape on both sides 4 times, perfectly. I was stunned.

Thus I figured if it could happen to me, it, or something similar, it could happen to someone else, be forewarned..... for silly goofs and senior moments. (I have them too!)

It is all good!

Jeff

Good one Martin, funny, but also quite true.

Now I gotta figure out what is wrong with my Desi Arnez tape, which I have never found on either LP or CD, so I really NEED to make it work properly. I rebuilt (you HAVE to) all my 9-Track tapes, but cassettes normally go on and on sans attention. Wouldn't you know it, had to be one of my absolute favourite tapes?

Dear Jeff,

My tape deck keeps making a clicking noise and will not play a cassette… I’m wondering if I need to replace the whole mechanism?
