Hello dear Beofans,

A B&O dealer told me this week that the new BL50 will be launched this autumn (september-october 2017), at a price tag of 25000 euros.

He also said that the BL50 replacing the BL5 are waaaay better than the BL5.

Furthermore, B&0 stopped to produce the BL5 this year.

My question : is it wise to get a second-hand BL5 (<=10000 euros) nowadays ?

I am planning to replace my set-up (BL8K, BL4K, BL2) with a second-hand pair of BL5s and brand new pair of BL18s for the rear.

Thanks for your input mates.

Cheers,

Guy

Are you connecting them to a Beosystem 3 or 4? Because you'll need a good preamp/processor with plenty bass adjustments, including a "LFE to Main Channel" option. Today you can adjust the bass directly in the BL2.

Make sure you can do those adjustments and go for the BL5, otherwise you might get disappointed.

If you have the spare money, you should wait.

Not that the BL5's are bad (not at all).

But it is an old speaker - the BL50 should definitely be better!

I've listened to the (can't divulge the name, I'm still under an NDA) - and yes, it's absolutely superb.

However, you simply cannot be disappointed with a pair of BeoLab 5's!

At nearly 2x the price I'd sincerely hope so.

Hopefully they'll at least try and design something more visually stunning for that amount than an angular 70s Bose-look of BL90.

Bit harsh on the BL90. As I understand it this was a speaker where B@O did not balance the requirements of design and sound as they usually do. They simply went for the best sounding speaker they could without any compromise.

This is a good time to grab a pair of BL5 for the new summer house in the garden.

I'm sure my dealer said he would get rid of his demo pair for £7k ish...

We still don't know much about the prize of the coming BL 'under NDA-50' speaker.

By 'being better' one could also think 'having new features'!

Any idea of the design? I think BL90 has a bold design but not in a way I find 'beautiful'. Well, it does match some interiors better than others though. I hope BL50 will be easier to integrate in a regular home. I also hope for a nicer name than BL50.

Thinking of it it's strange.

Beolab 9, BeoLab 5, BeoLab 1

Now BeoLab 90, and BeoLab... 50? Strange.

I know it was 90th year celebratory naming but 50?

Beolab 50, Beolab 8000 x 2, Beolab 4000 x 2,
BeoSound Core, BeoSound 9000, BeoSound Century,
BeoLit 15, BeoPlay A1, BeoPlay P2, BeoPlay H9 3rd Gen, BeoPlay H6, EarSet 3i,
BeoVision Eclipse Gen 2 55", BeoPlay V1-40,
BeoCom 6000 and so much else :)

The Beolab 90 and a few other B&O & Beoplay products (Ex:,BL19; Beoplay S3) are your introduction to B&Os new 'design language'

You'll get used to it and will luv it!!

As I've said before, they will not be something you expect, design wise - but you won't be shocked. They'll look great in any environment, and I can't wait for everyone to see them so I can talk about them properly!!

Hi,

According to what you've said, BL50 will look more than an audiophile speaker than usual B&0 speaker ?

I am eager to discover those BL50 as a beofan.

I don't see any resemblance between BL90

And any of the products you're suggesting - sorry. But B&O has been known to use several different styles during the years and now too.

Not sure why you are puzzled by your analysis ... all that's left is for someone to start a thread about the BeoLab 10 Laughing

And perhaps a theory that if you saw a BeoLab 90 in half you get a midrange 50 from the top half and a super duper woofer 10 from the bottom half ?
