Hi everyone,
By the end of May, we will be removing the BeoMusic app from the App Store and Google Play Store. One of the major goals of developing the Bang & Olufsen app, was to reduce the number of apps we maintain and focus on making the best experience in one app. BeoMusic is the first to go. So, what does this mean for you:
I know a lot of you are still using the BeoMusic app every day and it could be an inconvenience to change. You are probably also still missing some features yet to be implemented in the Bang & Olufsen app. But in long run we will have a more intuitive, cleaner and better app by making this change. Please bear with us until we have everything migrated, and continue to use the BeoMusic app if there are features you are still missing in the new Bang & Olufsen app.
Best regards
Thomas, Bang & Olufsen

This "Oldie" is still the only way to get a ordered Radio Queue list of my Favorites back on the Essence...
"Believe nothing you read and only half of what you see, let your ears tell you the truth."
@Chris: Working on it this sprint! Hope to have it ordered as expected in the next release
Will there be an app or a surface for the surface? (Win10)
MrAndersen:DLNA browsing will be ready in the Bang & Olufsen app when the BeoMusic is removed.
Will B&O move away from recommending TWONKY and allowing a wide variety of standard DLNA music servers to to work along with hopefully a search function for DLNA served music?
@Brigantinus: There is no plans for a Win10 universal app at the momen
@Sal: Yes, we will move away from recommending only TWONKY. We're testing on all the major vendors but it is impossible for us to test them all, so there might be some we do not get right in the first release. We're testing mainly on Synology, QNAP, Buffalo, Netgear and TWONKY. Search is not coming in the first version, but we start working on it soon.

That's absolutely wonderful news! Thank you so much! I'm looking forward to these advancements! And totally understand not being able to test all major vendors, something that works with the standard application of DLNA along with a search would serve well as a start.
Hi! If this is to be the one app to rule them all, I have a feature request:
Is it possible to make the X-app play locally? That is, treat the device it is running on as any other beolink enabled speaker? If so, it would be great to use it with headphones out and about, for starters. It would be nice to use the same app to listen to music on my headphones on my way to work as I do when I use my Moment at home.
But even cooler, you could do stuff like push the sound from a beogram turntable connected to a beolink converter to your phone (that is: your beoplay headphones), or the sound from your beovision if you watched a movie but didn't want to disturbe others at home.
What do you think? Can it be done?
-h.
Hi Thomas
Will we have a DLNA beta at the end of the day? 15 days seems short to me to beta test such an important feature. Will BS Moment issues be fixed by the end of the month too?
Cheers

@Henrik: We have talked quite a bit about this feature, so far it has not ended up on the roadmap. The idea was that you listened to music on a product and had to leave. You plug in your headphones and the music follows you out the door. It is, however, quite complicated to do. First problem is that the playqueue is actually on the product, not on the phone. Furthermore we need to be able to render all the streams on the phone. That said, i would love to do it! Your feedback gives me reason to bring back for further discussion :)
@mbolo01: You are absolutely right, 15 days is not long. For internal reasons we had to move the release date 1 month. That means we had to cut the implementation to the absolute minimum and shorten the beta test. It is going out tomorrow.
@mbolo01: Missed your moment comment. We're fixing some Moment errors in this release as well. The one regarding integrated setup are not yet solved. Could you be more specific?

One of the major goals of developing the Bang & Olufsen app, was to reduce the number of apps we maintain and focus on making the best experience in one app. BeoMusic is the first to go. So, what does this mean for you: First and foremost, the app will not disappear from your phone, but it will no longer be available from the stores. It will stay on your phone until you delete it manually. You will, however, not be able to put it on new devices. You might be able to reinstall it using a local backup with iTunes. DLNA browsing will be ready in the Bang & Olufsen app when the BeoMusic is removed. We have already started on the dedicated iPad version and expect to have it ready this summer. In the meantime, you can carry on using the BeoMusic app if you prefer, or expand the Bang & Olufsen iPhone app on your iPad. 1st Gen BeoSound Essence (MK1) support is implemented with some limitations. DLNA and TuneIn favorites are not yet working. We are working on those and will have a solution ready soon. We have done the first tests with the NL/ML converter and work will begin in the next couple of weeks to support this in the app. I know a lot of you are still using the BeoMusic app every day and it could be an inconvenience to change. You are probably also still missing some features yet to be implemented in the Bang & Olufsen app. But in long run we will have a more intuitive, cleaner and better app by making this change. Can only speak from the beomusic app prospective.
With the further software developments does that mean users will not have to use the useless wheel volume control going forward, it really sucks you know. For physical devices it is ok but for touch screen it demonstrates bad GUI design and function.
Also can we have all the controls in either landscape, or portrait mode at the moment going between the two orientations is utter madness.
BTW being Essense MKII owners we love the flexibility of the product and can use various apps which is unrivalled from any other manufacturers. As a piece of advice loose the B&O indoctrination and allow more flexibility or learn from the superior 3rd party GUI developers, with more easily learned user interfaces and supply direct to clients via more 3rd party suppliers.
With the quality of your current hardware, with better software and product distribution you will be on to a winner.
Good luck.

What do you mean with 'going between the two orientations'?
I use the Beomusic only in portrait mode - accessing the multiroom screen there (tapping the link symbol) is no problem (on an iPad).

There is a tv - and there is a BV

On Planet Feline you maybe happy in a sole orientation
, but spare a thought for the rest of the universe ;)

The app is a control app - the products are on the NL, right.
You might be able to have local playback of the DLNA source, the local files, the TuneIn service, and Deezer.
But the intension of the X-app is (as I have understood it) much more/much broader - it will be the controller of your entire NL-setup and (via the converter) also your ML-setup.
Please correct me if I am wrong!
What we (would) need are NL-enabled headphones
Or a small battery powered NL-device to carry around - maybe with access through bluetooth to the headphone.
I don't see how the X-app installed on a phone/tablet could act that way.

Still that does not answer my question - what do you mean by 'going between..'?
Maybe I should not have asked ;-(

does the beomusic app support all navigation modes in both portrait and landscape?

In portrait, yes
In landscape, no (only the multiroom navigation).
Means - if you are using landscape orientation, you have a point ;-))
(The X-app works for time being only in portrait mode -- probably because it is intended for a phone right now).

Very glad that inter planetary communication has been restored.
Always enjoy and learn from your input xxx

I really do admire your sense of humor yyy
It might already be on your to do list but it would be great to be able to change the icon shown when the output is an essence. An A6 shows up as a nice A6 icon, a Beosound 2 shows up as a nice little tower, but all of my Essence Zones show up as boxes making it difficult to understand which zone is playing / being controlled.
Again than you for investing in this app. I hope your team is given all the resources it needs. In my opinion the success of the whole company hinges on the app being fast, smooth and bug free.
Good luck
Mr Andersen,
do you think a timer will be added? It will be great to be able to program the app to wale up with your fav radio station
thanks!

Hope the new release of the B&O app allows the user to choose the streaming service (e.g. Tidal or Spotify) or at least having the possibility to remove Deezer from the app screen.
If I have the possibility to choose lossless (FLAC) I will always take the best quality available.
On the B&O website the Beolab 18 is promoted with the following sentence: “WE CONSTANTLY EXPLORE THE LIMITS OF TECHNOLOGY IN OUR QUEST FOR THE PERFECT REPRODUCTION OF WHAT THE ARTIST AND THE PRODUCER INTENDED.“
Notting against Deezer, but it is compressed music at the end
Regarding the iPad version, yes it will support both portrait and landscape.
@liviu_o: Yes timers are on the roadmap for mid/late summer
@phult: I hear you! We will icon selection for the essence boxes. We recently got all the product icons reworked to fit the style and should be done during the summer
@carlito: no immediate plans for Tidal and Spotify do not allow us a tight integration. The version due in a couple of weeks will give you the possibility to personalize the Music page, eg. remove the sections you do not want.
good news, thanks for the update.....
one thing, and to reinforce Henrik's observation a few weeks ago.....the X-app is proving (a) much slower to launch and connect to products and (b) it generally shows / connects to the wrong product (i.e. where nothing is playing) while ignoring an active product.......bit annoying, makes the whole process slow.....
I completely agree. I find one of the biggest weaknesses of the B&O platform, the lack of streaming services integrated, particularly lossless streaming services. Other platforms such as Sonos and Devialet have managed to integrate Tidal, Qobuz, Spotify, Apple Music, etc. into their platforms.
I would really like to see B&O do the same to match the great hardware products that they offer. It would complete the experience and at the moment I find this is sorely lacking.
I appreciate that this is a brand new app and it will take time for features to be added but I really hope that more streaming services will be integrated, especially lossless streaming services.
Tidal!
Henrik:Love it! The way I see it, this feature is an absolutely no-brainer, if it's technologically feasible. I think it is the kind of case where one single feature has so many different user scenarios that it is difficult to imagine them all when you make the feature. Plus, as far as I know, it gives you something that nobody else in the multiroom business has. It would add value to all your products, and in effect make a multiroom device of even my beloved H6s. It's a force multiplier. -h.

In addition to the direct connection, please also consider the benefits of implementing Google Chrome Casting and Air Play streaming from within the Bang & Olufsen app to non-NL products. This seems pretty standard in most other audio apps.
For all of you out there with multi room systems. I use ROON (probably the absolutely best user interface I have ever seen for a music service - especially on a PC) when I want to seriously listen to music.
It can make use the airplay functionality that is built into ever essence to create a zone and can push both your own music or Tidal to any zone.
I strongly advise you to take a look at ROON, it is simply stunning (I have no affiliation, I don't work there, own stock, etc..) For serious listening (which I only do 10% of the time) it is light years ahead of EVERYONE.
There is a free trial so you have nothing but a few hours to loose.
So for me:
Casual listening, Essence/Essence Remote Beomusic app, works great.
More Serious listening: Roon pushed via Airplay to every and any B&O multi room zone.
Not perfect but I think as close to perfection as you can get today.
