Hello, Beo brothers. I've been struggling with this all day today and no luck. I've had BS3 and BV4-65 in storage for about 6 years. Today, I've finally hooked them up at my new house, but no matter what I did, I could not get TV to power up when pressing TV or DTV button on Beo4 remote. I've tried IR eye wired with 3 wire DIN jack and with DB9. Tried 3 different serial null modem cables. Nothing. However, TV powers up w/o issues with a Panasonic remote and I'm able to control it with Beo4 once it's up. The BS3 is set to Option 1. Am I missing something? This TV worked just fine at my old place back in 2010. Thank you. Any ideas are highly appreciated as I'm running empty right now.

Thank you @kallasr. My menu doesn't have "autodetect". For BV4-65 it only lists the following options:
Not sure which one I should pick, but I've tried them all. Same result--I can power up the plasma with Panasonic remote only. Then everything works as expected. Any other ideas to try?
Still stuck. I went through my Service Menu items 3 times and I could not find such "auto-detect" option. I am attaching some sample screenshots which show what I see in that service menu. There were a couple of places that look suspicious, so I've circled them red. My Display 1 is set to "BeoVision4-65 D9" currently.

Thank you.

Check if the RS-232 (serial) cable is connected properly (Monitor on BS3) to serial (BV4). This cable allows the Beosystem 3 to recognize the screen as B&O (it is not recognized as such in the service menus you posted) Check for bent pins or pins that were pushed inside the plugs.
Good luck,
Jean
Thanks Jean. This is a good idea. I've checked the connection and it is hooked up to the "Monitor" port on BS3 and the "Serial" one on BV4-65. I've tried 3 different null modem DB9 cables already. Same issue. Wonder if I should try to remove the cover on BV4-65 and buzz all wires with a multimeter to ensure they are still connected to the serial DB9 pins.
To access the menu for autodetect I found this old thread:

Ralf
Thank you Ralf for passing this on. I've followed those instructions to bring up the Customer Service Menu and confirmed that Autodetect is set to ON. When I turned this setting off, the image was lost. I had to use a computer monitor to see it again. I've tried selecting different resolutions, including 1366x768, but still couldn't get any picture on BV4-65. Once I've changed it back to "Autodetect: ON", BV4-65 started showing picture again. However, I still see that it doesn't detect my plasma screen as B&O type. This is what it shows for Screen 1:
A tiny correction to the post above. I was able to get the picture with "AUTODETECT MONITOR" set to "OFF" and the resolution manually set to 133x768p. Just had to disconnect and reconnect the power cable on the plasma screen a few times. Even with the monitor type set to "BeoVision 4-65 D7" I still can't get it turned on or off via the serial port. Visual inspection of DB9 pins on both ends don't raise any red flags. All pins appear in the original working condition.
Wonder if I maybe try to measure signal on the DB9 transmit data pin with an oscilloscope to see if any kind of signal is being set by BeoSystem 3. Don't want to purchase an oscilloscope unless I have to, but don't see what else to try here.
(duplicate post)
Hi guys. Any more ideas, please? I am willing to try anything at this point since none of the previous suggestions worked. It's very strange that BS3 will stop powering up BV4-65 just after sitting in storage for a few years. It was very carefully packaged and handled under my own supervision.P.S. Wish this forum had a bounty feature. I wouldn't mind to pay some $$ to whoever helps me solve this issue.
Have you tried other BV4 options (like the 50" D12) with the highest resolution? The screen size really doesn't matter as the protocol is the same for all Panasonic plasmas. Also check on the Panasonic setup (with the Panasonic remote control) that the input is set to RS232, not Ethernet. Maybe why the signal is being ignored.
Have you tried factory resetting the BS3? The fact that you don't see BNO Dx is an indicator the panel is not being recognized properly by the processor. Try a factory reset to see if you have better results.
Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there

Yeah, I've tried pretty much every option on that menu. No luck with 50" either. I've checked the Panasonic menu and i am not sure where where the input option is being set. I've checked every one of them and I don't see such option. I've added the pictures of the Panasonic menu I see here:

Am I looking in the wrong place?

Thank you for chiming in, BeoMegaMan. I've tried the "Reset to Default Settings" option under Service Menu. If this is the same as "factory reset", then it didn't make any difference, unfortunately.
Still think that the RS232 is the culprit.
Put the panasonic menu in picturemenu with pana remote.
Then change the picturesettings (brightness or contrast) in the BS3 picturemenu.
Now you should see changing values in the panasonicmenu. If it does, then you have the confirmation of a working RS232 cable.

Yeah, I thought the same, because it wouldn't make a difference whether the serial cable was connected or not. But... WTF??? I reverse pins 2 and 3, thus making it a straight-through serial cable, and everything starts working!!! I was dead sure after reading many posts that the serial cable was supposed to be a null modem one, but my TV (BV4-65 D7 type 8959) wants a straight one! I am really enjoying hearing TV off and on clicks now. The plasma is also correctly auto-detected as "BeoVision 4-65 D7" screen now.
Anyway, Ralf, frog, Jean, BeoMegaman, BeoBuddy and everyone else who tried to help with this. Thanks a lot guys for not bailing out on me. I owe you a beer and a city tour if you ever come to LA. HIt me up.
Thank you,Dmitri.
