We're getting frustrated by having varying functionality on each of our TVs.

The system has evolved into a combination of messy boxes with varying degrees of capability and reliability.  What we'd love is the old B&O philosophy of being able to view the same content on link tvs as the main tv (albeit wit ha difference in quality).

We currently have an old sky box which we use as a freeview distributor into the link system.  In addition we have apple tvs (versions 3 and 1).  We can't easily get BBC iplayer.

I wondered if anyone could recommend a freeview set top box which would satisfy the following requirements?

(1) Input from terrestial aerial

(2) HD output to master TV

(3) Coax output to link TVs

(4) Record function

(5) Run BBC iplayer

(6) Run apps (including Kodi ideally)

(7) Be controllable via set top box controller

(Master TV is Beovision 8, Link TVs include Beovision 6 (early non hd, xcoax/scart/dvi input), Beovision MX 4002)

Thanks in advance (and apologies if this has been covered years ago).

regards

Alan

I have been using a TiVo for exactly the same reason.

What I have found is that Humax make a PVR that has both HDMI for the BV8 and video out connections to manage link TV's. I am not sure of the model on the UK market. Once known you will need to check your BV8 STB control list to see if these boxes are listed or ask your dealer for a full list. From that list you would have a better idea of other options.

Beoaus.

I echo the Humax recommendation.  From what I can see on their website, the latest versions still have a SCART TV output, hence that should support your BV8 and enable SD content to be relayed to your link TVs.

I have used Humax boxes successfully with B&O in UK (Freeview) and Denmark/Germany (Freesat).  The later models also have BBC iPlayer integrated.

Here in Bucharest I currently use just Apple TV4 with the BBC iPlayer app installed - this works very well but of course the only output is HDMI, hence you would not be able to distribute this to your other TVs unless you use a separate box to change to a composite signal.

Thanks for the advice.

I'd seen the Humax boxes but wasn't sure whether the latest has coax output, although I could see that some of their reconditioned models do.

Unfortunately I don't think you can load Kodi - but could always add this via a amazon dongle.

There's never a perfect solution, but they seem as close as

There's a photo of the HDR-2000T rear panel here: https://www.humaxdirect.co.uk/hdr-2000t-1tb-wd-d8955e.html

It looks to have everything that you need.

And if you are looking at their older boxes (and BBC iPlayer is essential) you need to be aware of this: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/help/humax

Also, BBC iPlayer are introducing the requirement to 'sign-in' later this year.  It is unclear whether the current iPlayer apps will be able to cope with this requirement, or whether they will require update.  I would hope that all current Humax boxes would be able to cope!
