Hi there, new to this website - hope you guys can help. I'm looking to get a media centre to store all my media content, iv seen a beomedia 1 advertised will this do the job? I wish to store high res audio i.e. Flac files and large films in Mkv format. Is their a mark 1 and a mark 2? I have b & o speakers and screens and wish to get the best output - or should I look at a Mac mini?

hope someone can help, many thanks

Hi

Don't go for the Beomedia 1 for this.

It is an old outdated computer, and will not work for the task that you are describing.

I had one, and it was slow just showing big JPG files.

Sounds like you need to look at a NAS (Network Attached Storage) - basically a home server on which you can store all your multimedia files and access anywhere on a home network.  The great advantage over a computer is that the computer (or mac mini) does not need to be switched on.

QNAP do some good ones: I've been using a TS219P (now obsolete) for several years and play to my Beovison using Apple TV4.  Many of the later QNAPs also have a hmdi output so you could plug them straight into the back of you TV.

Agree. On top of that, the components are fragile. Mine went into repair several times; it cost me more for repair than the purchase price... but it carries the B&O brand...
