I have just received a Bang & Olufsen BeoTime clock which I purchased on eBay advertised as a “Genuine, authentic home-made clock.” The terminology is a classic oxymoron as one can not be authentic/genuine and home-made at the same time.
The clock came in a shipping box marked B&O and the clock itself looks extremely authentic to me, however I was surprised a bit as I thought these clocks were made from Beogram 8002 platters…. This one is not, this is a stainless platter but everything is printed.
The movement is German.
So did I purchase an “Authentic” BeoTime clock or a very, very clever home-made one?

I have been hoping to acquire one of these BeoTime clocks for some time, but all the ones I have found have had a couple of damaged areas and the price was excessive (in my opinion at +$400) I finally found an undamaged clock but the seller insisted on $1,200 so that didn’t go anywhere. Then I found one on eBay at a reasonable price and I purchased it.
Perhaps I should rephrase my question. From all the photos I have seen on eBay I assumed what I was seeing was an actual Beogram 8002 platter with the raised rubber bits to support the record that B&O had converted into a clock adding the Bang & Olufsen under the 12 and BEOTIME over the 6 and putting a battery operated clock movement using the center hole in the platter.
What I have is NOT a Beogram 8002 platter, instead it is a12 inch aluminum disc which has black printing that very much resembles the pattern on the Beogram 8002, but this is only printing, although it is raised so you can feel it with your fingers.
The hands are exactly like all the B&O clocks I have seen, heavy square black hands with red tips and a red second hand.
There are no markings of any kind on the reverse.
The clock came in a heavy fitted box that was made for it, holding the clock by the German movement. The box has a white sticker with bar code and number: 36588330, Beotime clock Bang & Olufsen Madison Ave.

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
One tiny item I just noticed, on all previous sales on eBay (completed) the bottom black strips marking the hours are the same as found on the Beogram 8002 platter, whereas my clock has every other black strip hollowed out.
In addition the hands on the other clocks are all red, whereas my clock has black hands tipped in red.
Whereas I really need to hear from a B&O expert, I am beginning to think that I have acquired the real thing…… and at a really good price, from the buyer’s perspective.

By my last posting it was becoming apparent that IF this clock was a fake, it would have cost an unreasonable amount of money to produce it, hardly worth the effort. Also the amount of trouble to fabricate the box with cut outs specifically for this clock….. well no one would go to that much trouble for an item like this.
Like many people (apparently) I passed over this eBay listing for a “home-made clock” as most are just God-awful. The day before the listing expired I took a look at it out of sheer morbid curiosity and thought the clock looked awfully nice for a “home-made clock.”
Then I noticed the B&O bar-code sticker on the box and asked if the seller would ship internationally.
Then I gambled that the clock was the real deal and the “home-made” description was a mistake.

Well I am kind of glad you didn’t bid, selfish guy that I must be, as that was the auction for the clock I purchased.

Sorry for the duplicate message, but today was a day to celebrate finding a NOS Bang & Olufsen clock with original shipping box for $220. I don’t know about you guys, but things like this don’t happen to me every day.

Never saw this clock before.By the look of it, I am tempted to say it's quite far from being original.
