Thanks for free retro-upgrade, Apple.   I now have an AEx receiving AirPlay 2 protocol, feeding a BC 9500 - thanks to an elegant cable solution from Steve @ Sounds Heavenly.  In this case, it's providing multi-room solution to gear that's not even wireless-aware.

It's inexpensive enough that I might acquire another AEx and attach it to another system that B&O isn't going to make AirPlay 2 compatible - e.g. Beoplay A8.

My setup:

Lounge:

- ATV4 (not 4K version) running latest firmware (now running iOS12 - but also worked fine with iOS11)

- HDMI Audio Extractor supplying ATV video to DVI socket and Audio to PC inputs: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NAJ4UM2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

- BV6-26 (Mk2 Type 9272) using internal speakers

Dining Room:

- Airport Express (latest model MC414LL/A A1392, running latest 'Airplay2' firmware 7.8)

- 3.5mm to DIN cable supplying AE audio output to AUX input of ...

- BeoCenter 9500, using passive speakers

I have just checked again and the audio is perfectly synced - whether Airplaying from a separate device or direct from the ATV4.  Perhaps I have simply 'got lucky' in that the DAC in my audio extractor has the exact same processing time as the DAC in the Airport Express!

The processing in the BV8 (via HDMI) probably introduces the ‘out-of-syncness’.

My Core is up to date; I had to update the Essence.

I don’t know if these versions have AP2.

That should be easy to check - assuming that you have an iDevice.

If you see a ring behind the name of the device(s) in the AirPlay menu, they are AP2 enabled.

if you have other AP2 devices: is the stream in sync, when the Eclipse is involved?

On top of Core and M3 updated in wave 1, my M5, A6 and BS1 are now AP2 aware .... waiting for iTunes fix now to improve the protocol.

Correction: after a while, iTunes is responsive again and I was able to stream from my Mac to all AP2 devices, all in sync. End of test, back to B&O multiroom

BS Moment, BS Core, BG 4002, BC 4500, BS1, BL18, BL19, BL8000 + RCV1, A6, M5, M3, A1, P6 (tks Botty), H5, TR1

With my two tv as the main products for audio plus the Essence as the main source device, there is not much use for AP2 here.

I’ll stick to good old NL-BeoLink multiroom.

The A9 3rd gen is a not yet released - not even officially announced - product.

I did hear about it - now they have let the cat out of the bag.

I have no idea, when it will be released, so don’t ask.

The mentioned abbreviations means differentvhw versions.

I suppose that the A9 3rd gen is built on the same as the others in that group.....and will have similar functions.

P.S. The 3rd gen should feature additional drivers at the back (so I was told) - will be fun to hear, how that sounds compared to the 1/2 gen.

.....whch would mean that the support of Spotify Connect is removed (?).

But also that there will be (?) possibility for Voice Controlling (Google, Alexa......).

However, we should wait for the official announcement to be sure.

Id be happy if the only change was that it got rid of the physical defect that made the plastic pop and click when it changes temperature.

I see that there is now a PUC update on the BeoSystem 4 for the Apple TV that adds "Airport Menu." I'm curious why that have it mapped twice: to the yellow button and also to the "2" button. It seems to be the same function. I'm a little disappointed that B&O didn't utilize the "INFO" button while they were updating the PUC.

Hi Jeff,

I know the guy who makes most of the PUC-files, and he's a great guy and all, but he has one major flaw; he's a TERRIBLE mindreader - so what would you like to utilize the INFO button for?

I requested the change for the "AirPlay menu" because we started launching AirPlay 2, but had no way to bring up the menu on Apple TV. So I asked him to map it to Yellow, since Yellow already was mapped to play/pause on the Apple TV, and the way you get the AirPlay menu to show is with a long press on play/pause (and this part was not mapped).

The reason why it's mapped twice is basically because of the BT remotes. You don't have an overlay menu on neither BV14 or Eclipse, like you have on BV11. So the way you access 3rd party "special functions" is through the List of the BeoRemote 1 BT. I don't know if it is because it's a colored button or because it's a long press, but he couldn't get it to show up in the menu of the remote, unless he also saved it to a number key. So on BV11 and similar, you will see the entries twice. You will not on BV14 and newer.

Thanks for the explanation. That makes sense now. That was a great idea to add the AirPlay Menu. It would be nice to be able to use the INFO button to see how much time has elapsed and how much time is remaining for a video. I'm not sure what that command would be on the Apple TV remote, though.

The INFO and GUIDE buttons are, in my opinion, underused in many of the PUCs. My STB PUC uses them well. However, the Oppo Blu-Ray player PUC does not have anything mapped to them. I would think that the INFO should be used for the "display" function on blu-rays, and the GUIDE button should be used for the pop-up menu on blu-rays. Maybe you might pass these ideas along to the PUC designer?

BTW, on the BeoSystem 4 I have to press the yellow button twice to get the AirPlay Menu. A single press just pauses the video. A long press on the yellow button doesn't bring up the AirPlay Menu either.

Hi Jeff,

I agree that would be nice, but specifically with the Apple TV its a bit difficult. Because in some apps you can press "go" or "select", you know the middle button on our remote, and it will show the remaining time. But in other apps, if you press "go" it pauses. And then it's weird if it's on the info button.

Also, some of the commands on the Apple remote are only Bluetooth, and those we can't map to the PUC. So what we actually would like to have on the info button, is the command that is sent when we make a light tap on the touch surface. That never pauses (from what I've seen), only shows info on the screen... But that command is only bluetooth. Same for the button with the TV icon :(

Yes, I will take your feedback to him :)
