Hi all!
I just bought a Beolit 600 in superficially good condition! However the audio output isn't what it should be. The output is distorted if you raise the volume control above 2 - and becomes increasingly distorted without any increase in amplitude. Below 2 it's distortion free albeit very quiet.
I thought it may be the speaker (doom!) but I'm glad to report the speaker is fine. The output is the same though the DIN socket - and the speaker is fine in another radio.
Any pointers / ideas?
Thanks!
Sounds as if one of the output stage transistors has gone bad.

Thanks Martin
On investigation I found the leads to both output transistors were corroded - so much in the case of the AC117 that they just broke away from the base of the transistor on touch. So I need to order these. I'll let you know how I get on!
OK so the output transistors arrived - I also ordered a replacement 1000uF /10V cap as it was reading a fair way beyond its tolerance. Popped them in and it sprung into life! The output is very loud and clear. The volume is actually high even at 2 on the volume scale - heading up toward 4-5 brings about distortion due to the very high output. Is this normal?
Alas another issue has revealed itself. On FM I can only receive stations above 95MHz. Below that is's spookily silent. No such problems on LW or MW. Also the tuning display and actual frequency being received are slightly out. The stations above 95MHz come in loud and clear.
Any ideas anyone?
