Hello there B&O friends,
I have a really strange problemgoing on here...
few months ago I bought a pair of BeoLab 8002s and plugged connected them to my 1991 BeoCenter 9500.
Working absolutely fine since then, I bought a used BeoLab 2 (SN 24...) yesterday, cause I want powerful bass also at higher volumes ;)
I connected the Sub between the BC9500 and the 8002s by the "in" and "out" PowerLink plug, as described in the manual.
Everything works fine until you change the volume or do any other command via the Beo4.
If I for example change the volume by one press, the speakers give out a short "bzzbzzt" sound, maybe 1 second long... One sound for every press of any button...
It's totally weird and I can't find any explanation for that. I used the fully sourced thicker Powerlink cables to connect all speakers and I never had this sound on my 8002s connected directly to the BC9500...
Maybe the specialists of you can give me a recommendation what to do?
I appreciate every try to help, because this sound makes me crazy...
friendly regards from Frankfurt, Germany
Dominic
It probably won't help much. But have you tried turning the Beocenter on and off again? I remeber an ungodly noise comming from my 9500 once when switching volume but after unplugging it I never heard it again.
I can't seem to edit my post but by turning it off and on again I mean unplugging it for a few seconds.
Thanks Delroy for your pointer, just tried it out but with no success, though I disconnected it for 20 mins...
Cable issue. Are they all Mk2 or Mk3 cables?
Even if they are, I'm almost certain it's cable(s). Get a new one, or new ones, or swap them around to find out which one is 'guilty'.
The cables I actually use are maybe 6 or 7 years old...
Tomorrow I'll check the cables and get back ;)
Thanks for the tip... By the way, has anybody ever had or heard the same problem that I have?
Kind regards
Ground issue every time. Check cable's from-to the speakers.
Another idea: could it be that the BC9500 is simply too old to cooperate with the quite young speaker 8002 and 2?
Maybe the old system/technique creates some interferences in the music signal or in any way falsify it?
Which cable type shall I utilize ideally?

I have heard this(or at least similiar) sound on a few Beosystem 4500's also 9500, for me it was the 2-way communication that somehow was heard in the speakers, and no change in cables or anything could help.
It sounds just like the "bits being transfered" somekind of digital transmission signal sound, the best way I can describe it.
Do you use a 2-way remote also ? When using only the Beo5. the 9500 should only send out the 2-way signals as status updates each 20 seconds or so. I mostly heard the noise when using a 2-war remote, since they receive communication back immediately.
Off course your problem could be different, but an easy way to test, is to take a digital camera and turn it on while pointing to the IR sender/receiver window, which is located at the bottom right of the unit. It you use a smartphone(at least the iPhone), the you need to use the frontfacing camera since the back camera has IR filtering.
If your problem is the same as mine, the sound will be in sync with the sender diodes on the BC9500 blinking.

Hi Dominic,
As mentioned earlier in the thread, this sounds as though the data signal from pin 6 of the Powerlink plug has found its way onto the audio signals in pins 3 and 5. It can be caused by faulty cables, or by a fault within the Beocenter (the 8002 speakers don't have pin 6 connected, so they shouldn't be able to cause this fault).
The simplest solution is to try new cables, I'm always happy to offer cables to fellow Beoworlders on a "sale-or-return" basis so that you can try them out without any obligation. These are the correct mk.3 Powerlink cables you need for your Beolab 8002 speakers:-

If changing the cables doesn't resolve the issue, the cause is most likely to be the Beocenter. In that case, simply post back the cables in good condition within 60 days for a full refund.
Kind regards, Steve.

Thanks Weebyx for the tip, I think we do speak of the same thing!
it really makes sense, that the 2way comm. is hearable... I even have this repeated sound WITHOUT touching the Beo4 every somewhat minutes, youre right...
I use Beo4 only
Is there any possibility to cut that damn sound out?
Hey Steve,
thank you as well for your post, I definitely will change the cable to a new one to male that sound hopefully disappear but I will buy it here in Frankfurt. It wouldnt really make sense to ship it from the UK to Germany, would it?
sunny regards

Well, the only way would be to remove the wire that contains the sender signals. This can easily be done at the processor module, there is a connector where it is just a matter of removing one black wire. You can also remove the 30v(maybe 15, cant remember) power to the IR module, then it will not be able to send the signals.
In the service manual the IR circuit is well described, and it is easy to do. But if it will help, I am not 100% sure, could be worth a try if you are up for it :)
Just beware that the glass panels might come loose from the holders, as the double sided tape deteriorates over time.
Hello again there, folks
I apologize that it took me quite a while to get back to you on that topic.
Shortly after my last reply, I went on holidays and returned last week.
today I replaced the powerlink cable going out from the BeoCenter 9500 to
the BeoLab2 and immediately, lo and behold, the strange sound was cut out :-)
Thanks to you guys for the pointer, I really appreciate your help *1*
Have a great day
