Hi everyone,

After speaking to friend today, I was surprised to hear that a B&O technical representative had told him that it was "impossible" to connect an older Beosound music system to any of the new B&O TV range, unless the £600 NL/ML Converter is added.

I thought it worth publicly updating this information, in case anyone else has also been told this.

In single-room setups, where you have line of sight from the remote control to both the TV and the Beosound, and where you don't need to send the TV sound out to link rooms via Masterlink, then the converter should not be needed.  Simply connect the speakers to the TV and use this cable to link the Beosound (via a Powerlink output) to the L/R In socket fitted to all current B&O TVs (including Avant NG, BV14 and Horizon):-

Simply set the TV to the L/R In socket (this can be done with a single button press if you assign a "hot key" on the remote to give this function), then control the Beosound as normal via the remote.  For best results, please set the Beosound volume to a high level (typically 50-75%) to give the same sound level as the other TV sources.

Any questions, please feel free to ask!

Kind regards, Steve.

Hi Steve

What "option" should the Beosound be in? Option 0 or Option 1?

Hi Martin,

The Beosound should be in Option 1 so that it directly receives remote control commands.  For Beosound 9000, you need to also add a Speaker Sense Adapter to the spare Powerlink socket to allow the unit to remain in Option 1 without having Beolab speakers connected:-

Hi Steve

I plugged one of these into a 9000 this evening and I could only select the source via the Beo4, not sure what I was doing wrong? I powered down the unit, disconnected the bl6000, connected the Din to phono cable to PL out and added your adaptor to the other PL out, powered it up again and lost IR control. Used the Beo4 to option set? I tried to adjust the bass, treble and it displayed TV OPERATED, Bit stuck really.

TIA Stuart

Hi Stuart,

If the 9000 says "TV Operated", then it hasn't recognised the Speaker Sense Adapter.  Please connect both the cable and the adapter to the two Powerlink sockets on the 9000, ensuring that they aren't in the Aux socket by mistake.

Now please power off the 9000 at the wall for a couple of minutes and then power on again.  If the 9000 doesn't respond to the remote, please use the Beo4 to change the option setting to A.Opt 1 manually (the 9000 LED should flash to confirm this has been accepted).

If you need details of how to change the option setting, please feel free to ask.

Kind regards, Steve.
