My Beocord 8004 suddenly stopped playing, fast forward, or reverse.
Question: When in the STOP position shouldn't 't the motor be turning the belt? If so, my 8004 doesn't do anything.
It engages PLAY for a second, and the same for fast forward and reverse, but there is no movement and the belt from the motor is not moving.
I am thinking the motor has failed. Any thoughts?

Hi Jeff,
Yes, with the Beocord "on" the motor should be rotating the capstan. If it isn't then either the motor is dead or the power isn't getting to it.

Hi John,
I had noticed prior to this "failure" that the motor softly growled, press STANDBY and the growl stopped.
When the tape failed to play I assumed my repair to the cassette position part, the one with the ball bearing had failed. Not so it is fine.
I have no reason to suspect a power supply problem, so any ideas where I could find a replacement motor?
Send me a PM and I might have some options for you.
You requested a PM..... with luck I sent you one.
If not, let's try this again.
Been a BIG night here. Mid H&G TV the rebuilt McIntosh Pre-Amp "exploded" and took out all the power in the media room. Total blackness. Unexpected and unappreciated, took step by step...... steps until the culprit was found.
Back to the subject at hand, any suggestion you might have for my Beocord 8004 will be greatly appreciated!
I think I have a spare motor.I'll venture out in search(I may be a while!)but I saw a Beocord 8002,and I imagine it's the same mech?
