Hi guys,

I am thinking of swapping my long beloved BeoSound 5 for a Moment (you know why Erm.. but I have a question regarding network for this device. I am running ethernet only in my entire house - no WiFi whatsoever. My question is: Is it possible to run the Moment with wired connection only? I noticed that it has only one ethernet port for internet connection, obviously, but I also want to be able to play my entire FLAC music collection from a NAS server also with wired ethernet. Is this possible and if so - how do I connect things? Huh?

Best regards,

Frederik

If your NAS is connected to the same router as your Moment they should be ale to find each other. Unsure however if the Jukebox need wifi to connect to the soundheart or if the Soundheart can connect as a hotspot.

To my knowledge the Jukebox needs to be connected to the Soundheart. This can only be possible through WIFI.

the alternatives: Essence mkII, BS35, A6, A9 need a wifi connected tablet or phone to be operated

Thank you for the respons. That's a bummer regarding the connection between the head and the master unit. Do you have any idea if it will work in docked mode only? I am willing to live without the tablet mode as I am just looking for a replacement for the BeoSound 5 for streaming. Can any of you check if music playback works with the the WiFi turned off?

When there is poor wifi connection you get a message to press the wireless button at the back of the SoundHeart in order to connect it with the Jukebox. It does not work consistently though and I am not sure if it is some kind of temporary connection.

That is the hotspot function I was referring to in my post. Maybe it's just a temporary solution.

I believe as well that it is a temporary connection cause after a while you have to do it all over again.

So in short I will not be able use the Moment in an ethernet only set-up even if the tablet is docked?

I am not sure that I understand? The unit has internet connection just through wired network. It will be conneted to my BV11 via NL.

Beosound Moments baseunit is called Soundheart. You can connect that to your network either wired or over WIFI.

The tablet is called Jukebox. It connects wirelessly to Soudheart, over your WIFI, if you have that.

I believe Soundheart also has a possibility to connect to the Jukebox setting up its own hotspot to which you can connect Jukebox.

I however think that is only a temporary thing, used only when setting up the system.

A retailer should be able to tell you if it works without a Wifi present.

If willing to control through your BV11, why bother with a B&O 'audiomaster' at all?

An ATV4 into the back of your TV would surely provide everything that you are after?

Hello Guy. I like the tactile feel of browsing through my digital music collection as with BeoSound 5.

You will not be able to use the tablet in docked mode, without Wifi.

So I think your only option is to setup a WIFI network, if you want the Moment.

Are there any special reason to why that is not possible at your place?

It is a choice we've made as a family - not to have WiFi in our house. I talked to a technitian at B&O and he confirmed what you just said, Hiort. He suggested that I got hold of an Airport Express to create a small sub wifi network close to the Moment that I can turn on  I use the Moment and off when not in use. Not a bad solution. I thank everyone for the help. Much appreciated! Laughing

Can anyone tell me the time it takes to cold boot up the Moment? Not from stand by. From switched off from mains and until ready for playback.

Forgot to mention that I'm fully Wisa, maybe a little bit shorter when speakers are wired and 1'30" included JukeBox reconnection time too
