Hello everyone,

I've upgraded a big part of my network by switching from a LaCie 2Big to a Synology DS412+

I already tested the DS412+ running DSM4.0 with my Encore and a small 500Gb HDD, and everything worked flawlessly.
Now the Synology is back in the network, with 4x3Gb HDDs, and it is running DSM4.1.
The Encore is connected to the network via CPL, and it can play radio without problem, so there seem to be no network issue.

I have totally reinitialised the Encore (factory settings), added the Synology server which appeared on the list, but when I want to scan the library, it just shows the "white circle" for some seconds, and it's over, letting me with 0 albums on the Encore. Of course media sharing is launched on the Synology...

If anyone has an idea about how to make the Encore scan the library, please advise!!! An Encore with only radio is not exactly a perfect product...

To scan the new drive:

1. Go into mode

2. Spin to settings, then Press right arrow twice and then go. This will load into a different mode

3. Point to service settings

4. Check music storage

Thanks Michael, but I've done that : the new hard drive is there in the list, it is selected, but the Encore doesn't want to scan it.

If I use a DLNA app on my iPad to search for my music library, no issue, it's there!!!

How about the other setting rescan music storage?

I found that it took a full day to 2 days for mine to be fully operational.

The other setting works : I launch "rescan", then the "white circle" appears, but just for some seconds (maybe 2), and then disappears totally. It's like if the Encore searched for a library and found no song at all...

Hi Marc,

Interesting problem which seems to be linked to the DSM 4.1 (unfortunately, I upgraded my Syno to this version yesterday but I do not have an Encore at this time).

Have you checked your settings in the DSM, one of the changes made in 4.1 is related to the built-in firewall?

Kind regards,

Yann.

After looking at the Firewall, there is no issue with it : by default, everything is open!

The strange thing is that all my DLNA clients can see and play the content of the DS412+... While the Encore can see it, but not scan it to find any song :-/

May it be because there is some kind of file that makes it immediately bug after a 1-second scan??

Hi mbee,

I made this upgrade a few days ago without any problems. I have added some new albums since then, and everything works properly. The only difference is that i run a 212j.

Do you use the synology Media server or another one ?

Hi erandlux,

I didn't upgrade the DSM, I made a new install on new disks, that's the second difference between you and me.

I use the (usually very good) Synology media server, not another package.

I've changed some things (physically) in my network to see if the problem was not just a network problem... And no, if I plug my LaCie 2big on the same port, the Encore can scan it.

The synology appears in the "media server" list, but when I start to scan it, it works for 1/2 seconds, and then it's stopped. When I go back to the media server list, it has disappeared. So it's like an issue with access permissions, but I can't see where to correct that. I've created a rule with the Synology firewall to let all DLNA ports free, and even all ports free, and there is no improvement.

I think that I will have to make a factory reset of the Synology... But I need to store its content somewhere... It will take a lot of time :-/

Sadly, all my other network players can see and use the Synology in DLNA without any problem :-/
