Anyone had this issue? The CD clamp on a Beosound 2000 will open, but not close and will not play CDs.

Beosound 9000 MK III, Beosound Century, Beogram 5005, Beolab 8000, Beolab 5000,  Beolab 4000, Beolab 5, Beovision 8, Beovision 10, Beovision 5, Beoplay A2, Beoplay E8, Beoplay H6.

What happens when you manually turn the gear to close the clamp? Does it play then?

maybe a dirty contact on the end switch, so the electronics do not know whether the door is open or closed?

Possibly a dirty laser lens - try cleaning it with a Q-Tip dampened with rubbing alcohol.

Marc, good thought... I will look into it.

Bob, would the laser be related to the clamp?  I guess the CD not playing and the clamp not closing could be two separate issues...

If I recall correctly, there is an optical sensor on the door gear mechanism that probably needs to be cleaned.  I think you'll be able to see it if you look at the gear mechanism and watch what happens as you manually move it through its range.  If the mechanism is clean and the rubber belt (o-ring) isn't broken it should properly open and close the door.

The CD mechanism is a separate system.  If the lens can't get focus it won't play.  Cleaning may solve that also if you have noticed quite a bit of lint, dust, or other contaminants as you've cleaned the system.

Best of luck

Perhaps I misunderstood your remark but I'd be willing to bet that if you do a search on this site you'd find more mentions of IPA (=isopropyl/rubbing alcohol) than water.

Martin, Peter, and Joeyboygolf being a few that I just found.  'Worked successfully for me in the past as well.

Hmm - where did Beobuddy go?  I guess he's feeling outnumbered..

If the cd clamper doesn't close properly - while open - try gently push the glass door to the left - could be a combination - belt or/and sensor
