Firstly, hats off to 'BenSA' who already started a thread on this just as I was about to post. There's nothing, and I mean nothing gets past you lot!
I've been speaking to Gavin Sykes, owner of STB Brackets about this from pretty much the start, and I've always thought it was a pretty obvious thing to do. B&O did it 'officially' with the BeoSound 5, (which, admittedly was a ripper and player - this is just a player) but not for the Moment. I always found that a little odd, but as usual Gavin saw a BeoProblem - then made an STB-Solution!!
Gavin and I spoke yesterday - and here's the conversation...
Gavin, Why did you develop CD Moment?
One of the dealers asked me to make a shelf for a CD player to go with Moment and I thought I could do something a bit better. I asked the guys in my own stores who confirmed it would definitely make Moment more attractive to customers. I have some very talented people in STB and suppliers that have been incredibly accommodating – it’s actually been great fun.
How did Struer react?
Really positive, right from the start. The initial design used a CD player which we purchased and took to pieces. The PCB was too long and so the first solution was physically larger than Moment with the disc entering from the side. The shape followed the lines of Moment and so it looked pretty good. We 3D printed a couple of different designs and sent the best one to Struer as a working sample.
The head of design asked us to keep developing the idea. That gave us encouragement that we were on the right track, but also told us that we were not finished yet. The next design featured the trapezium shape with the same footprint as Moment and the display ‘hidden’ at the rear. This required a new PCB design, and a few new challenges in writing the software.
Obvious question, why doesn’t the CD integrate with Moment to give operation via the Juke box screen with screen artwork?
We looked at this with a couple of the engineering guys in DK. Their plan was to access control and display via the service update port on the underside of Moment. This idea was dropped for two reasons. The first was that resources in Struer were limited at the time and there was a degree of uncertainty that it would be achievable. Secondly, the thought of software integration scarred me, so ultimately it was my decision to go for a basic CD player.
How has it been received by the dealers?
I was all set to demonstrate a fully functional prototype to the dealers at the September ‘16 dealer meetings. When these were cancelled in favour of smaller local events in each country, the project was shelved. I was a significantly out of pocket, but without the dealers actually seeing the product working, the risk was too great. When dealer meetings were scheduled for April ‘17, we were able to show the player and take feedback. The dealers said they definitely wanted it and we immediately kick started production.
We are now in a tricky spot, we presold more than 40% of the production before the 1st July launch. With a 10 week lead time, I have to decide very soon, when I should make another production and how big that should be. I have thousands of brochures here ready to post pout to the dealers, but I’m worried that even more dealers will want to buy.
Crazy situation, I don’t want too many sales now, because I’ll run out before I can make more and then the dealers will be upset with STB.
So, it’s a table mounted CD player with an integrated wall mount ?
We didn’t want to place the display screen on the front because I think it wouldn’t look great and once playing a disc, there is little need to read a display. The rear mounted boss idea is borrowed from our BeoSound Moment Wall Bracket and it seemed obvious that keeping the two screw holes, for wall fixing, would be a really nice feature – Denmark like that a lot.
We also had an idea that we could make it work as a floor stand version, or to go with our existing Moment floor stand. But it was complex to manage the cables and we never really got a solution that was good enough to offer. A floor standing BeoSound Moment with CD is still a possibility, but we have some other products that need our attention, and we are a small team.
If we take lots of requests from the dealers, we will revisit it. My head is clearer now and I think I know what is needed.
The dealer who originally asked for the CD shelf, has he placed an order ?
Yes, he has had CD Moment for a couple of months. I offered it to him at ‘cost price’ which I thought was a nice idea. He is a lovely guy, and a highly successful dealer. He is also very smart and immediately refused my ‘cost price’ offer. He knew that first machine probably cost me six or seven thousand pounds, maybe more. I gave him his player for free with our thanks. I think I believe in karma……
So there you go. The CD Moment. Over to you!
So where did the original thread go? I'd posted to it, as had others!
I sent BenSA an email, apologising for deleting it, as I thought two separate threads would get messy. As STB sponsor the site (heavily - and pay most of our server fees) I felt a 'proper' advertorial type thread was appropriate..
Just in case this has upset anyone - here we go.

If you need this, you do not need a BeoSound Moment, imho.
Why not just by a CD ripper/Dlna server?
jowus: Do anybody have an idea what Price Range will it be?
Think it will be around 650 pounds. Wonder if it will be popular.

For that money you could get quite a decent stand-alone CD player and sit it in the cupboard beneath! With the change you could probably add a Lintronic for full remote control from Beo4. But as StUrrocjk says, the more sensible option is to rip your CDs (in FLAC) to a NAS and use a server.
I still use physical CDs in my BC9500 (my wife prefers them), but that is far more stylish than the Moment (especially with the CD add-on!). I also use QNAP NAS to Playmaker Mk1 to the BeoCenter.
It did. Thank you!

IMHO, Kudos should go to Duels, who already started a thread on this in May:

I'm a bit disappointed STB chose not to go down the path of having a more integrated solution. The thing that bugs me the most about the new CD player is those ugly buttons on the right hand side.
So, basically, Kudos to everyone for finding it online - but nobody seems to think it's a good idea?!
Must be a 'BeoWorld thing' then. I do know he's made a first 'trial batch' of 500, and they've sold out immediately. He could have sold 3-4 times this amount on launch, and the demand actually caught him off guard!
Ah well... All I can do is tell you about it, I suppose..

I wrote (in the May theead):
'The Moment CD player looks great - and it is a nice 3rd party addition to the B&O portfolio.'
But I also wrote:
'We all have different needs --- and having different ways to achieve, what we need, is always a good thing.'
It seems that there is an interest - despite the rather high price. So thanks to STB for making it!
Has anyone bought and used this with their Moment?
Looks like an elegant after market solution and very professional.
I assume one can change tracks by the buttons on the right hand side and not by a remote or other method?
Is it only for table standing Moments and not for Moments on a stand?
What has been your experience?

Is this Beosound Moment CD still on the market or EOL?
When I look for it at https://www.stbbrackets.co.uk/de/produkt/beosound-moment/CD-Moment I get an error message "Product Page 'CD-Moment' does not exist?".
EOL but a few kicking around I’m sure.
