Leslie: You're right mate, just checked both connectors of 3500 and 4500 I have here and there is indeed no difference. I'm sure I got one where I tried to swap these boards and the connectors did not match. A friend of mine had a defect 4500 glasspanel board where I tried to swap but again different connectors! Will check again.....

Perhaps it's more a question of the manufacturing year, instead of a general difference between 3500/4500.It's hard to imagine that B&O would make the 3500 and 4500 side by side with the same electronics - and then use different connectors...It's more likely that they changed the connectors for both models at some time during the production years.
Could be Steffen, I'm sure I had this "issue" trying to exchange both boards. Soon I have this unit back in my hands so I definetely will make a picture of it.
Brengen & Ophalen
BeoLignage: the glass panels are not exactly the same, it might be that they changed over time rather than a difference between 3500 and 4500, but how it lights up during balance, bass and treble control is different between my 3500 and 4500 master. I also remember Leslie mentioning that the panels were not interchangeable.

as I mentioned, a difference is to be found. and probably it is related to production year, I can make a picture of my 1988 BM3500 during balance control later today.
Please do (picture). We're talking about the glasspanel board do we?
joeyboygolf: A typical bit of B&O gimickry more suited to the anorak train spotter brigade and not of very much use to the normal user.

Thanks, just bought another BM 4500, to get the 2-way functionality ........ . I like the technology, It is really fascinating. Everybody today is talking about networked systems, so what is this, nothing less than an early precursor .
joeyboygolf: [Not all Beomaster 4500's had the 2 way facility in their software. Later examples dropped the idea

I guess it´s the other way round, at least what the beoworld product information tells .

Rolf

Exactly...I remember I bought one of the very last models of the 4500 receivers back then (the last unit at my local dealer -after production has ceased) -And it had 2-way facilities. It was actually quite useful if you had a Link-system...You could see what the sound settings were, which track or radio preset station you were listening to -in any room. The only problem was that the Beolink 5000 wasn't wery reliable...

I´m using an Extra Speaker Kit in one room, and there it is like you say. But what was new for me, even with a one-way capable BM 4500 I got the settings displayed on the BL 5000.

........ and the BL 7000 very huge and sensitive to external influences like bumps, etc.
Kind regards,
The extra speaker kit works two-way even as a stand-alone; it's quite a clever bit of kit. I am using one with my computer, plus a passive amp, and it works two-way with both Beolink 5000 and MCP5500.

So I was about to make some pictures of the strange light at balance control of my early 3500 (looks like the text gets under lined). It turns out it is due to the panel board being loose, (I am in the middle of reattaching the glass…) But where the strange light appears is in a window right beneath the balance text. So this leads us to another question...
Is this window the timer window for the 4500 that others are referring to?? In that case I would now assume that the early 3500 got the same glass panel as the 4500 i.e. with the timer window. But with a different panel board i.e. without the timer display.
Regarding the connector, I will make pictures when I finish the reattaching of glass panel.
The extra window at the left side of the glasspanel is ment for 2-way IR. Your board doesn't seem to have the 2-way IR option so for now pretty useless (I think).

No -as far as i know that's the window for the IR receiver/sender. (there's also that plastic cover under the front for IR -but i guess the one on the glass-panel is for when it's hanging on the wall). The 'timer windows' are the ones with the text 'TIMER'. There's a red and a green one. I guess they're also on the 3500, although they have no use here.
You beat me on that one, Leslie.
He's quick - I'll give him that...
I've made 20 of these replica's Steffen, remember, so I should know!
so, not sure this is relevant any more, since there was nothing special with my glass panel, but here is any way a picture of the connectors.
Also I found out that some one had been there before me and tried to block the light coming out through the IR-window with CD-marker. of curse the error state was also then loose glass => loose panel board.
now I'm finished with the master and the touch sensitivity is just perfect, I had a extra close look at the BG-CD and it needs the same treatment, at least before it is placed on a wall
Thanks for showing us your picture. Indeed it's a 5 and 6 pole connector. Now let's see if I can make a picture as soon as I have the BM4500 with this different type of connectors.
My BM3500 does indeed have a different type of connectors! It doesn't have the IR-window in the glass panel either. The number on your (BeoLignage) panel is also different from the one on mine - take a look at the pictures:
My BM3500's SN is 07******, so I guess it's one of the earlier models (Then it also makes sense with the missing IR-window, as the first BM4500's didn't have two-way communication).

Thank you Dennis! You're my man I knew there were units with different connectors!
when did the 3500 and 4500 got in to production? on mine BM3500 it says 1988 and it has the IR-window. On the product page of this site it says 1990-…
or are the years on the back plate not the production year but some kind of legal class marking?
BeoLignage:or are the years on the back plate not the production year but some kind of legal class marking?
It's the copyright year for the design and usually has nothing to do with the year of manufacture.

I presume Leslie that you've made them to sell rather than just for something to occupy your time? Am I correct and if so do you still have them for sale?
I've sold them all, sorry. But soon new panels will be made. Never knew there is such a demand.
But there's an alternative on Ebay. Black panels with aluminium foil on the backside with no text, no windows, nothing just black
