Please explain the difference between Beolink passive type 1657 and ML / MCL Converter type 1652.
Both look the same with the same connectors. IR+ML+ PWL + 2x speaker

The MCL/ML converter is a useful piece of kit.Obviously,it's primary function is to adapt latter day ML enabled product to function with earlier MCL systems,which is does well.
However,it can also be used simply as a slave amplier,where you want to drive conventional passive loudspeakers from say powerlink enabled devices.
Finally,by connecting an ir receiver,the device becomes a Beolink Passive,which when connected via ML can be used as a separate room device,driving passive loudspeakers,with independent control of local volume,bass and treble.
The Beolink Passive on it's own,does'nt have the same versatility.

If you just want to use it as an amp (PL -> box -> passive speakers), you can also use the old socalled 2P box/amp. Remember: you'll need fully wired OL cables for it to turn on.

It is Indeed very usefull because of its versatility. I can strongly recommend keeping one in store if you lille to tinker with your setups

Please can you tell me where to find wiring instructions on how to connect the MCL IR-eye to the ML/MCL Converter?
Is this done via DIN cable?I own two Converters, one IR (Transceiver) and a remote.. I would love to make two standalone amps for CX100's :)
Won’t work - although you can connect an MCL 2A box to the converter - you will find all necessary information in the Beolink handbook.

MCL2AV box, plus MCL IR eye, plus ML/MCL Converter (operating as Passive) will work as stand-alone amp, allowing up to 3 sources to be selected using a B&O remote. The MCL2AV will need a 15v power supply.
Not even if I connect a source like the Chromecast, and control the volume from the app?
I suppose that si would only use the IR and remote to turn on the converter..?
