How do I add a Beogram to our 7-55 Beolab 5 setup? Are the cartridges not available any more, thus try a different brand(Linn)?

How would you do it?

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

You will need an analogue to digital converter. Contact Steve@soundsheavenly who will be able to sort you out.

If your question is, how to connect it to the BV, all you need is a working (B&O) turntable and maybe a RIAA-amp.

Lots of analog input (RCA L/R) possibilities on the BV7. However, you always configure a 'video source' this way.

And you will have to use the 'AV' command (before choosing the configured source name/button) to get sound without picture.

Another way would be to connect the turntable to a 1611 BL-converter - and have this connected via ML to the BV (which should be in option 2 then).

There is a tv - and there is a BV

I would rather get a beomaster 5500/6500/7000 for the Beogram, and find a way to use the Beolab5's with the BV7 and the Beomaster.

I have used Beograms with BV7-40 (mk2), and the sound-processing in the BV was poison for vinyls. Even through masterlink.

Hi Chris,

The MMC cartridges for Beograms are still being made, I get mine from SoundSmith in USA, they aren't cheap but the quality is far better than you will get from trying to use a 30+ year old original cartridge.  With a new cartridge, a good Beogram should rival the sound of any new turntable at the same price point, plus you have the option of remotely controlling it (when connected to the right B&O system).

Moving on from there to the rest of the system, the main question is how often and how seriously you listen to vinyl?  For casual listening, we can get any Beogram working directly into your Beovision 7-55, but for the very best results a Beomaster audio system will greatly improve the sound.

I've put together a guide showing which Beogram models need a separate pre-amp, which you can see here: http://www.soundsheavenly.com/faq/question/beogram-turntables-need-external-pre-amplifier-kit/

Please let us know a bit more about your listening plans!

Kind regards, Steve.

Steve.

If you live in Europe, I wouldn't hesitate to ask Axel Schürholtz. He's the one who refurbishs all B&O cartridges for B&O. An retipped MMC4 should be around 150,--€.
