Today I needed to do a few adjustments on my Beogram 8000, the arm was coming down too heavy and I was surprised to find the platter was warped. Both items taken care of I attempted again to insert the black plastic cap at the back of the tone arm, and again failed.

With the cap in place the tonearm is pushed too low and scrapes the record. No amount of tinkering changed this situation.

Has anyone else ever encountered this issue and if so, what did you do about it?

OK guys, a week and no response….. no interest?  Confused

So let me try a different tact, I believe that the black plastic cover has stretched/warped (your choice) and so when I try to put it back in place it sits too low and impedes the tone-arm function.

If this sound reasonable, does anyone have a NOS Beogram 8000 tone-arm cover? Or at least one that is not stretched at the bottom.

Thank you. Yes - thumbs up

Try fitting that black cover again. I'm sure, it doesn't sit right.

Hello Martin,

I will give it one more try, but I gotta tell ya, I really, REALLY spent time on this to complete failure. It can not be put on backwards, as it only goes on one way.

I have tried, on and off, for three years to get this cover to sit right, but it doesn’t.

The bottom on my cover flares out slightly and I believe this is where the cover doesn’t get a good grip on the tone-arm base, allowing it to sit too low which keeps the tone-arm too low and it smacks into the record. (Never a good thing.)

Thanks for the response! Smile

Hello Jeff,

I just read your posts about the little plastic tone arm cover from Hell; what I did, after spending days chasing down issues to my 8000 running, is simply leaving it off. I know it does not make the O' girl look as finished, but at least she plays vinyl just fine without it. Anyway, take care and good luck with your saga.

Randy

Hi Randy,

I HAD to do as you did, just leave it off. I got tried of trying and trying to make the damn thing work, just wasn’t worth the effort.   Super Angry

I see you are in Olympia, a beautiful city. I used to live in Mercer Island and then Redmond for years. Miss both.
