Possibly but to me the Eclipse take a few design cues from the BV14 in terms of fairly square shape from the front. More so than the Avant. I would be surprised to see another tv directly replacing the BV14 in the near future.

Well maybe it can. My friend who is an interior designer spends her working life selling good taste to people who have none of their own..........

Well, have seen this setup in real live during my vacation at a local B&O dealer in Swiss. You must have a really big living room to fit this in. The BL50 are very very big (and ugly) and the Eclipse (65") is also beacuse of the soundbar a big big TV. The sound bar looks a bit cheap to me. Sorry but as a long time B&O fan this is not my style anymore.

Sorry but you are not a real B&O fan specially when you find the BL50 Big and ugly :-(( (proberly the same for the BL90)Sure you must have a living room to fit this kind of loudspeakers but that is a normal fact, nothing strange. You find the Eclipse 65"a big TV and the sound bar cheap :-))

Haha what? sorry, quite condescending of you.
And yes unless this has morphed into an groupthink forum I too find the BL50 to look like oversized expensive crap. In my opinion the BL50 are what someone like b&w would have done 20 years ago.
What are we, name brand Apple fashionistas buying whatever is pushed towards us?
Lee is quite right, b&o are done in my mind.
davidr:And yes unless this has morphed into an groupthink forum I too find the BL50 to look like oversized expensive crap. In my opinion the BL50 are what someone like b&w would have done 20 years ago.
I would suggest that before calling other's comments as condescending, one should read one's own response too. May be your comment is in the same vain.
True value of BL 50 is in the "tech" and no other speaker manufacturer even remotely puts in so much science behind their vision as B&O does behind their top of the line speakers. Show me one speaker which can close to BL 90 even remotely (and BL 50 is an off spring of the same technology)
Real B&O fans don't just throw off the cuff remarks but build their criticism on real facts.
Looks are always a matter of personal taste and if you find them what you think B&W could have done 20 years back, than that is of course your personal opinion. In my eyes, they are just great and more than looks, how they sound is all that matters to me.
FYI, I am not just throwing around off the cuff remarks but backing my approval of BL 50 with a confirmed purchase.
Hi Raeven
Do you also have any substantive detail to share or just your opinion on their size and looks? Did you bother listening to BL 50? I am curious as the real purpose of speakers is to produce sound and they are not sold based upon their size, weight and looks but rather on how they sound.
svinaik: Real B&O fans don't just throw off the cuff remarks but build their criticism on real facts.
Fair enough. I suppose I am not 'a real b&o' fan in that case re-porposing room eq correction and attaching a soundbar to a standard LG set, yes?
Confirmation bias is a real physiological effect by the way.
davidr:attaching a soundbar to a standard LG set, yes?
I totally agree with you on the Eclipse. This is also what I have been saying that in Eclipse, we are getting a great soun bar and LG TV. but not real BeoVision product.
FYI, I have already decided not to purchase the Eclipse ( cannot justify the price premium) and I am going the Loewe route.
Criticism is fair where it is fair...

So, the eclipse. My thoughts on it. This isn't a great looking TV, having seen it in the flesh didn't help either.
What bothers me most is the fact that B&O didn't really try to make something of it, GUI-wise. Let's face it, all OLED's on the market are LG, right? If Sony and Loewe (and every other brand out there) can pull it off to have their own software in their tv's, then B&O should be able to as well !? The reason that they did not is just poor management choices. Though I understand that they didn't have a choice anymore. The ship has sailed and this is all we can expect from a beovision anymore. The story goes back quite a few years.
TV business had evolved, the next best thing became always just around the corner. B&O wasn't ready for this. Lacking a bit behind technology-wise, having disregarded the competition's efforts, they went too fast over their next decisions, desperately wanting to meet the preset launch dates.
They might have failed miserably with the introduction of the avant 4K, bringing a tv into the market that clearly wasn't ready (no real 4K support, only GUI in 1080p-mode, production problems with dust behind the screen, and so on...).What they did next was actually a bold choice and showed some courage, they jumped on the Android platform and tried to deliver a TV that was not outdated at launch. Unfortunately, they put the wrong team on it, and what came out was full of bugs and not nowhere near a market-ready product. Even much more so than the original avant. Who is to blame for this? B&O management. They did not invest in the right people for this project. If everyone else in the business can, than B&O should definitely be able to. They should have attracted the best people in this department, and brought us a BeoVision worthy of the name. But no, again, they launched a project full of faults. (Did they learn nothing from the Moment?)
At this point, B&O had already lost lots of money, invested in the wrong people and bet on the wrong horse. From a business point of view, they made the only viable decision of dumping the TV development branch altogether. There's no way they can now again make a huge investment in a new team of real professionals. They should have done it when they stepped into the 4K market years ago, but didn't. All they could do now is lick their wounds and move on. If they were to make another tv, it would only come as a standard package from another supplier.
At least, now they went the OLED way. There's no money, nor a team available to work on this TV part. All they could do is ask LG politely to grey out the sound menu's and to bring electronic curtains. The first they did, the second was too expensive for LG to do, so they had to settle with the 'HDMI2'. Let's face it, the OLED panel market in not a buyers market. LG can do whatever they want. All B&O could do was to bring an amazing sound package, which they did; and include some real B&O magic in the design, which (for me) they didn't (well, apart from the stand, but that's nothing new).
Then the price point, it's ridiculous. It would have been a fair price, given they would have had an excellent BeoVision team working on the BV, and delivering a true BeoVision using an LG panel (not a tv!). Instead, they gave us an LG TV (not just a panel!) with a sound processor and bar. It is simply not enough.
Although I understand the path B&O went down, leading to nothing more than what they can do today (bring in another brand's TV, not just the panel), I'm still very disappointed. The Eclipse might be the best they really can do today, and in the future, but it's not worthy of the name BeoVision and it should not be priced that high.I would have loved an OLED BeoVision with all the B&O magic we love (and are willing to pay for), but given the way B&O has led it's business over the last decade, I don't see this happening anymore.

You are not allowed to think this, be very wary of any knocks on the door, it could be the Real B&O Fan's henchmen!

On the Eclipse Design aspect, As far as I know, this is the first time B&O has used a part (Black Glass under the speaker) without a real function but just to feel that they have done some "Designing". I am and have always been impressed wit anything when the design statement is "Nothing superfluous" and Sony / Loewe design go that route.
B&O was the master of design and it does not feel that anymore on the Eclipse.

A very well articulated post. Thank you.
Am not enamoured with the looks and more so the more I hear a bout the Eclipse it is really a damn sin how they came out with this!! For this reason am out !.Not buying new or second hand 😱

You are right. Now I see that there is a light sensor and some other bits. Nevertheless, I was incorrect. Thank you.
Michael: jvdl: Michael Pre-android Then it won't work properly with BL50 because B&O are seemingly not updating the TV anymore. (Which is strange.)

Based upon my discussions with my Dealer, I also confirm that it will work, Infact, I will be hooking them with BV9.
Now only if Eclipse was sensibly priced, we would not have had this issue

That is infact correct. In this case using BL5 profile will be just fine to run BL50
