Image processing in the sound centre? I'm sceptical as well, especially if B&O have effectively closed that video department. Some basic pass through or input signal recognition or switching does not constitute image processing....

As for GUI improvements, that would be most welcome - though I suspect will be relatively minor.

Possibly menu overlays etc.? I have no real idea.

Well.. if this turns out to be true, I will come back to Eclipse camp. How much faith can we put in the Intel ? and any perspective on the timing ? Reason is that I am actively in the market for OLED Tv and was about to defect to Loewe side but if B&O turnaround on these things is a bit near future (6 month), I can wait and then buy Eclipse.

Sincerely appreciate any further details.

Any greedy seller would say this to sell more items. B&O has promised multi room on android and other features that hasn't worked out either. Right?

And agreed, switching sources does not mean image processing to me either. rather just forwarding a source without any modifications whatsoever: a feature any cheap 50 usd switch can do too.

I suppose they could use the developers at LG to do the coding as opposed (outsourced) to their own department. That would still give the same result.

Even without seeing it, I couldn’t see how I could go from $4,850AU to $22,000AU for what’s effectively a very good sound bar on a fudged up LG panel.   We have a BV11 55 and LG65 curved LCD in the house already and I decided just to pick up a basic LGC7 65 OLED (no need for E7, G7), plug it into the Essence using the headphone line in and run the audio through the Beolab9.  It’s perfect.  The acoustic lens are more than adequate for the ‘centre channel’ voices.  The only thing missing is surround, but frankly, if I crank up the 9’s it doesn’t leave much wanting.  I suspect that I will switch over to the Core Hub for an optical output from the TV when it’s available.

The LG OS on the C7 is much better than our 2 year old curved 65” 4K and the OLED image is much, much better than even the HDBV11 which frankly beat the 4KLG curved for image quality hands down.  With the Essence I can access Spotify without interacting with the TV, which when it was on the BV11 was a pretty clunky affair if we are to be honest.

I wasn’t convinced my partner was going to appreciate the benefits and cost of going to the LGC7 so soon after the 4KLCD, but he seems very pleased with the benefits.  I was hanging out for the Eclipse, and if it was 2-3 times the price, I might have gone there, but 4.5x for a B&O sound bar and dodgy interface, I am afraid not.  At least the savings might help me justify the Lab50s more easily :-)

Thanks for your story. I'm considering options like these too. I also have BeoLab 9 as fronts and they do a good job.

I have an Avant 55 and it works very good with all the speakers and speaker groups. It's extra fun to be able to juggle around speaker formations in software with a click and a stand that quickly swivels out to my favorite eames chair or kitchen, or couch. I would probably miss that. But then again not super necessary features. And I should spend more time at the gym than in front of my tv haha :).

One minute we're discussing that B&O has dropped their image processing department. Now we're saying they are adding image processing....to the sound centre?

@Moxxey ....100% in agreement with you. I also feel that person who posted about the "Intel" is way off from the reality. There are rumors and then there is Fake news.

I am also not holding my breath on any major changes to Eclipse. BTW, My dealer just confirmed that he is not aware of anything more happening to Eclipse whatsoever....

You can do imageprocessing on HDMI. Scalers for Home Cinema do that.

But I don't expect this to be done by B&O in the Sound Center.

Correct, I was a bit too hasty in my response. Still, regardless of what the HDMI source processes before output to the sink, the display is still be able to screw everything up if has poor processing capabilities itself.

For those thinking of alternatives such as Loewe, this video was interesting, especially the Loewe X concept towards the end of the video.

Forgive me, some of you may have seen what they showed at IFA, but here it is anyway.

Yes I explained myself poorly. I mean it's up to the panel/display itself to actually show the frames sent by the source (and to the LG panel, the sound center is a standard HDMI source) perform the pull down, deinterlace, remove judder etc.

The information I´ve got is from a dealer that got this information from B&O. There supposed to be some "image circuitry" in the soundcentre. I´m not saying that its the same as the image processing in the legacy Beovisions.

Sounds like just a switch. I don't believe it is more or less than so. Software fixes is easy to promise as well. They are sellers I mean. They want money.

He he, and based on their recent experience with outsourced SW and messing around with code (Avant NG & BV 14), I guess they are not that keen on even touching the LG code as it simply works - or adding something that may interfere Big Smile

That's precisely why I said "no accusation". It's just dealer talk/rubbish again, sadly. People just need to think things through with some logic - and other users also not take something as 'fact' too, simply as they read a post on here.

I do wonder if the arrangement with LG is that for an agreed period of years LG will supply B&O with upgraded screens that fit the sound bar as they release them so that the Eclipse stays up to date for new purchasers.

Whether that would allow an upgrade path for existing owners should they care to discard their existing panels is another matter.

I think the most interesting interpretation of the information I received is that B&O is looking into the "B&O-fication" of the product, where I think the "curtain" is one important piece.

Hopefully the "HDMI 2" that pops up will be removed to.

That the curtain will come, was something that Struer communicated.

Time will tell....

I hope/expect B&O pays LG some $$$ to make a B&O-skin with curtains, cleaner interface, etc. A few small improvements (colour scheme, fonts, no HDMI-sign) seem quite simple.

If all this fantastic up dates are/do come to the eclipse in time like the curtains

and the hdmi 2 logo disappearing then why not on the first day release of the tv as would have made the launch So much better and  any other on the way stuff would not have seamed so bad. Looks/sounds like the you buy

It and we will sort of fix it again over time???? Er.

Hi All

Geoff Martins blog (Tonmeister at B&O) now has an explanation of the functions included in the Eclipse Sound Center.

Check: http://www.tonmeister.ca/wordpress/2017/09/15/bo-tech-its-not-just-a-soundbar/

BTW. No mension of a videoprocessor. Just a Sound Processor with HDMI inputs.

There is a tv - and there is a BV.

Well, the money goes to the same audio engine features we've already had with BV11, Avant & Avant NG, and BV14. The only improvement is the loudspeaker itself, not what else is in the SoundCenter. We've already had those features with previous BeoVisions...

...you know, the ones without the LG TV – with an actual B&O TV!

So I still do not understand where the money goes, given Eclipse's price compared to aforementioned earlier BeoVisions. The value proposition is still off.

Just to be clear, I understand and value the value of the SoundCenter – just not what is above it on the set!

Some dealers have mentioned that the price ratio is 60/40 for the audio/TV of Eclipse. 55" C7 costs €2.500. That ratio would add up to the price of €6.250 for 55" Eclipse (sans the stand/wall-bracket).

I still refuse to call Eclipse a BeoVision. That name implies there is B&O in the Vision part. There is not!

Eclipse is the new breed of B&O televisions, born out of necessity in a market where B&O effed up. Maybe some day I'll see more value in the Eclipse, or in another TV that B&O makes with LG. Today is not that day.

Until I see the Eclipse & its value proposition differently, I'll just sit back, shut up on this thread, and be happy for everyone who find that Eclipse ticks all their boxes for a great new television Smile

PS. I'm partly biased, because I am already enjoying & experiencing LG OLED – with the same picture quality & TV features that Eclipse offers. For me, Eclipse would bring "only" better audio. For €10k, that leaves me with plenty of audio options from B&O's product lineup.

100% with you KMA. In fact I was wondering if people on this forum will raise their hands if they have bought the Eclipse.Particularly the Eclipse champions.

On the contrary, on the BL 50 discussion forum, 2 people (including me) have actually purchased the BL 50 and there is not even a wee bit of argument / discussion on the value proposition on the speakers and keeping in mind that BL 50 are pricier than Eclipse.

On the Eclipse discussion, there has not been any peace.

Just to be clear, I understand and value the value of the SoundCenter – just not what is above it on the set!
