BenSA: Puncher: moxxey: fu21: Unfortunately, everything connected with B&O is either satisfactory or below par. Wow, that's some statement. I'm sure the cavalry will be here shortly to tell that everything is OK. If people like myself are the cavalry then you are part of the B&O bashers....at least the cavalry are trying to promote positiveness and make the forum a conducive place to discuss the brand and attract new members. When a Eclipse owner says something positive about the TV they get rubbished and of course when someone says something negative the bashers are delighted. Its a lose lose situation. Only reason I am still on this forum is because there is such a wealth of knowledge otherwise I would have left long time ago.

Call me anything you like, choose not to subscribe to my views on the likely future of the Brand, ignore my flippant posts as you like but this was an actual owner of the Eclipse who is saying the B&O bit is no better than satisfactory or below par and you still queue up to defend it - hands up to you, you guys are amazing!

There is a tv - and there is a BV
Hang on guys - its not as if the Eclipse is beyond question or critique.
Its a better offering than the recent Android TV's, purely on OS disfunction issues. But it has some quirks to its experience - both the lack of B&O feel to the TV side of the experience (something we have to get used to) and the missing functionality on release, in some respects (less excusable).
So i would neither leap to its defence nor attack it - it has strong specs, is relatively well suited for the future - its not a question of haters vs fanboys. Its a question of a whether the people can rationalise the price or value added. If you can, good, if not, then good as well.
While i dont love the design, if the Eclipse integrated well enough with my other NL products, i'm sure i'd be happy enough with one - after all the specs are strong enough.
In other words, i'd pay a high-ish price for the value added / integration compared to the sum of separate components - a personal judgement..

Razlaw: Emil Jensen: Well said Beolab 20, Beolab 17, Transmitter 1 Completely agree. Any positive comment here about B and O is met with negative comments and all too frequently personal insults. I posted about the most recent quarterly report showing improvement and positive numbers and the response I got was that quarterly reports can’t be trusted and that I do not know how to read one. I posted that I like the Eclipse and was personally attacked and “accused” of liking every B and O product. This of course ignored the fact that I choose not to post about products I do not like. Also following a positive comment I was told I had too much money, too little critical thinking, and was told with respect to part of my post that I should stop posting. The negativity and toxicity here from the B and O haters is terrible. There can always be two opinions and that is fine. But the open hostility to any positive comments, and the poster individually, is ridiculous. Saying someone has too little critical thinking is tantamount to calling them dumb. But apparently name calling is now accepted here and in compliance with forum rules.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.

Correct. And the positivity comes from an LG owner. But the negativity is from an Eclipse owner who isn't impressed with B&O. An actual owner. Of the product.
Look, we're not here to "bash B&O". I've said this many times: we use, own and are proud of our products. I have a number of them and love my BV12, the A9 and A1 - some of the strongest products in their field. But, we're realistic, too. We're now wary of future commitment, especially for products which cost nearly £10K. If you mistake this as "bashing", then fair enough.
One thing that does make me chuckle a bit is that I'm immensely positive in certain threads about certain B&O products (the above products and many others are examples).
But, strange how we don't get these comments about how "positive" we are, in those threads. The same people only comment on anything negative - as if it should be completely eradicated from this board. It's fine to be positive, but being negative attracts "the board has gone to pot" replies.
Has anyone been on a football fans forum? Some of them are borderline hysterical about their team. One bad game and they want the manager out, players dropped, Chairman to make a public statement etc. One fantastic game and they are raving about the players, very upbeat etc. The contrast is incredible and far more intense than anything you'll find here.
Lol, you just discover that football fans are insane ?!? That's nearly 40 years it's like this and it won't be better.

Seriously I have the same thought today. Some people are emotionnally too much involved regarding b&o and I am suprised to see that for only a bad experience with a seller or a product, some are nearly ready to burn a bang olufsen store sign.
Carolpa:the deterioration of quality of this forum out-performs by far the decline in quality of B&o.

Nice - finally this thread has turned into something usefull ;-)
You are on the point here and the thread after your post show it clearly. The thing I am most surprised about is the personal attacks, I don't see that in this degree in other forums.
I feel sad that people wake up to go into a fan forum, bash the fans bash the forums, and in general fill the threads with toxic post.
But maybe better in 2018 🤣
You make a good point. The reason it bothers me, what B&O is doing lately, is that for decades B&O was the only firm to do what they did, and they ain't doing it no more as they say. I have deeply loved the brand, and my reaction is like that of looking at a child you've loved and who you thought had great potential drop out and become a panhandler or such. It's born of deep disappointment and acknowledgement of wasted potential. Like watching an accomplished businessman succumb to drink and drugs and lose their capabilities. Refusing to even acknowledge the issues and being a raging fanboy is not helpful. Funny, when everyone was slagging the Playmaker, no one lined up to say anything about the posts I made defending it, and how I didn't have the issues many did. But, some sycophants can't abide pointing out the Emperor is butt nekkid.
As for tone, this is the calmest place online I've ever seen. I've been involved in online forums from the tail end of the ARPANet days, what used to go on there, and still does on Usenet, would make some of the fainting daisies here have a stroke and their hair turn white. I will say that back then, when you had to know how to use an opaque Unix text editor to even begin to get something posted (as well as being Unix literate) the quality of the flame wars was much better and wittier than I see nowadays.

Also, I'll add that people do not know your history, either. People make comments on here, but I remember your old posts Jeff - you were one of the most positive people on this forum and a big advocate of the brand, in the States. People overlook this. They only see recent posts and you are judged on these.
If anyone can comment on B&O's history, it's yourself. In fact, some of the more recent posters on here (no names) cannot hold a candle to your history with the brand and you've seen it all - people should very much respect this, your opinion and how you've noticed many changes.
Or, maybe you could take all this history and leave this forum as you now post only "toxic" replies? Apparentely.

On a connected note, I also have personally have more than $ 100K invested in B&O products (BL 50, BL5, BV9, BM5 / BS5 / A9 / A1 / H8 and all the Phones and remotes and numerous what not.....
But, since I do not like the offering by B&O on the Eclipse side, I feel like fan boy team is chasing out people like Jeff and me just for expressing our healthy skepticism for Eclipse.
Compare this to discussion on other forum (Hint L****) where people are helping each other making decisions.

svinaik: Compare this to discussion on other forum (Hint L****) where people are helping each other making decisions.
But people are. You take the replies and make a decision. I don't make any decisions based on forum postings, anyhow. Remember the H5? Most people on here were immensely negative about that product on launch - I bought a pair and they are decent. Not brilliant, but decent.
If you make decisions simply off the basis of a forum, I'd seriously question my judgement (in the same way, if I had to chastise a fellow adult, on a forum, for a "personal attack" I'd have to have a word with my sanity).

Thank you moxxey. Too few people realize where people like you, I, and svinaik are coming from. Apparently our dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs is all that matters, aka thought crime, rather than trying to understand the reasons for it. I've watched B&O's quality diminish, their management appear to be taken over by MBA types who have no love for or understanding of the brand (and its unique place in AV history), and the awful way they have treated several dealers I know of. I would love to be able to praise a product like the Eclipse, but I also recognize it for what it is and is not, and can't bring myself to applaud it.

Hey, I just ring the bell...
I am Quasimodo!
The problem I have with how this thread has devolved is there's an assumption among the "critical thinkers" that anyone who likes the Eclipse is obviously a "fanboy". Just because you don't like it, and you think B&O has lost the plot, this is a half-hearted effort and reminds you of your child's drug problem doesn't mean that "fanboy" is the sole reason why anyone might have a different opinion.
Full disclosure: I'm probably going to buy an Eclipse this week. I guess I'm a stupid fanboy with too much money. I've definitely been called worse!
Or... maybe I have thought this through using my hobbled critical thinker and have different priorities than the "bashers" so I have reached a different conclusion.
I haven't bought it yet so if someone can point me to a acceptable substitute, I'm all ears. Key requirements are great picture, great sound, motorized wall bracket and not an ugly slab of plastic. No Loewes because they are not sold in the US.
Then again, I bought (and still own) a Saab from the last year of its life so maybe I just fall for losers...

Hi Stan, as an aside I have just replaced my last Saab after ownership of various models since 1973 (except when I had company cars forced onto me.)
There is nothing wrong with the Eclipse in design terms. The main objection seems to be that the panel hasn't had separate B&O 'work' done on it. I haven't seen the TV in person, but the motorised hinge cleverly gives the illusion of the TV floating away from the wall, much more so than with the BV10 or BV11. This is still the TV area that B&O excels in. Just look at the majority of alternative wall mounts by other manufacturers; usually a flimsy assembly of spider like cheap metal struts.
Graham
Agreed on your initial point. There's always the temptation to be a bit provocative and pointed when posting online, its always more likely to get some "engagement" rather than some more measured posts (not saying i'm immune).
As i posted earlier everyone prices the value proposition differently, and i'm sure i'd be happy enough with an Eclipse if i had one, as long as it worked with other NL products. Sure i miss some aspects of the heritage B&O feel, think some veneer could have managed into the UI, but in the end the specs are strong.
I've posted plenty about the processing being a bit better in Sony's and Panansonics, but in the end thats not the biggest deal to me - it is an excellent OLED after all.
So, i'm glad for your decision and hope you enjoy.

The Eclipse does not allow external boxes such as a 4K Blu ray player, Apple 4k TV, Amazon TV or any other 4K 60HZ devices to play at their optimum. The TV is not ready.
It may do with a software update soon. But seasoned B&O owners like myself (27 years and thousands of pounds later) are staggered by the poor customer services which do not give any clarity over expected resolutions to such problems. These should have been ironed out before sales of the TV.
The decision to drop the NL/ML CONVERTER compatibility with the Eclipse to fantastic, timeless and iconic products is a big disappointment and shows a change in direction for this soon to be 'has been ' company. Yes you can hard wire the products but remote control with a beoRemote one is not possible.
'If this approach was taken by other manufacturers it would be viewed as disgraceful and customers would be up in arms wanting a refund .Regardless of the brand B&O's response is equally appalling.
There should be no loyalty for a company that takes thousands of pounds from people and does not deliver the goods.
These TV's appear to be Beta models for suckers like myself to buy and fool into thinking its a premium product.
I am neither a fanboy nor a B&O basher' just a fed up owner who's been had.
