Justasyou:

Hi svinaik.

Nice tv i saw it to last week just hope no problems with it since i heard that the Loewe OLED sometimes break down.

I want to buy one for my house in France to but i hesitate for now

Have you made good arrangement,s just in case it does not work?

@Justasyou

I will respond to your comment in other discussion that I started on the B&O / Loewe Integration. Folks on this forum get very worked up discussing anything other than good things on Eclipse :)

Link is here.

Puncher:
Assuming for one moment that B&O read this thread and use it to help them plot their future, what message would you like them to take away?

This is why I am considering (with some trepidation) a very expensive Eclipse rather than a 3rd party OLED TV, and these points translate across the board to any other B&O product:

  • longevity - it has to reliably work for decades, with sufficient spare parts to support it. The more expensive the item, the longer it should be supported.
  • connectivity - the whole point of the B&O experience. Combined with the point above, older products must be able to be connected to newer products (something the Eclipse seems to lack at present).
  • B&O ness - iconic B&O traditions such as smooth and silent motion, electronic curtains, etc.
  • product range - B&O offer a complete home entertainment system. So if one part isn't doing so well commercially, retaining it has benefits because it is part of a whole ecosystem. For example if B&O were to drop TVs entirely then they would lose a lot of customers who like to have the whole interoperability thing going

The reported end to the NL/ML connector has me more worried than concerns over the Eclipse at the moment. I have too much invested in older products.

My heart says : go for the Eclipse, it’s maybe the last tv with a B&O sign on it and does what you want (single remote/puc/stand/light control) with superb picture and sound.

My little brain says : are you crazy ! You have the last Struer made tv (important for me) with excellent picture and sound and design. All my family is against me for the Eclipse (they want their curtains). We were very happy with our MX, our 32" Avant, our 40" Bv10 so now our 46" Bv11 is the pinacle.

Hard times but best times !

Why not wait, then.

I am sure there are further tv’ from B&O to come - be patient....

My advise will be to go for Eclipse. I am not so sure on anything major that can come from B&O considering that they have no internal capabilities any more. On the picture side, there is just no comparison for the OLED screen versus the LCD / LED. OLED wins hands down. Just too much of a difference in picture quality versus LCD. HDR capabilities alone would be the justification for change.

I usually stay with my purchases for a long time and I think OLED / HDR change is sufficient to move on.

Just keep in mind the shortfalls of Eclipse and if that is something your family can adjust to.

If you are "very happy", why the desire to change? What will the Eclipse offer over and above your existing setup?

The Eclipse has a fantastic picture, don't get me wrong, but as does my BV12-65 (but with a very different, much softer style which suits movies). My BV12-65 is flanked by BL3s and a BL11, which I doubt the Eclipse could better, plus if I got rid of this entire setup, I doubt I'd get no more than around £2K towards an Eclipse - is the 65" Eclipse a £9000 improvement?

I would be very interested in a BV14 with OLED panel.

Still haven't resolved my current issued with the Eclipse. And my dealer doesn't have a clue on when a new SW will be released to fix these issues.

My issues are:

-Micro judder and stutter with TM on and off
-No DV on 60 HZ with Apple TV
-Lip-sync issues with native apps
-Lip-sync issues with Apple TV
-Wifi and ethernet drop-outs

Has anyone similar issues?

I can’t comment on the apple tv as i don’t have one. However i have an intel Nuc attached and don’t have lip-sync issues at all. It happely plays things at 60hz too. The only time i see some judder is when watching tv and going to other apps or the settings menu, basicly when the tv is doing many things at once.

I do have some wifi drop-outs, but i have a feeling that’s mostly a powersaving “feature” second try for most apps usualy works fine. I changed most power saving “features” off and it’s much less often.

The most annoying thing to me is that at night when just using the tv speakers, all the speakers turn back on when you go to the tv guide. And i would like to get the “my buttons” to work, but yeah...

The industry is good for that I believe, if you don’t have the latest toy you spoiled your life.

For my 47 years old eyes, a 55" screen would be an improvement (65" Eclipse won’t fit in my corner for sure) also the 4k/oled/ hdr combo.

As MM stated, I may wait for the next step if there’s one and if there’s none I will survive that tragedy.

Still tempted by a Parisian night blue Eclipse but that’s because of that board.

I will look forward to you (hopefully in-depth) review and opinions.

I recommend you spend two hours examining it and all the key Apps.

I spent Time on both Saturday and Sunday in the local store (I know Big Smile wearing out my welcome ?).

Saturday was looking at the pricing, performance, and UIs of BVs in the 40” to 55” range: BV14, Avant, Eclipse, and Horizon.

Sunday was digging into the Eclipse’s implementation of Deezer.

In Australia the first 3 are roughly (+/- AUD1,000) at the same price point - the Horizon is a significant saving.

I had never dug into the Android interfaces. But this time I did. I did find anything objectionable and in general they were better than the current implementation on the Eclipse.

What I don’t know / can’t judge is whether the Eclipse’s Architecture will always cripple it compared to the BV14 and Avant and Horizon.

So I think I think I am slowly inching towards a decision between:

1) one of Avant or BV14, OR

2) Eclipse, OR

3) Horizon with the intent to upgrade again in 2019, OR

4) the Almado/ LG solution at 65”, OR

5) the Almado/ Loewe solution at 77”

I need to schedule a Saturday for annoying the local Loewe distributor (and checking where the Philips distribution is at).

Your post made me and wife smile a bit. Good luck working through the choices. On your choices list, each one is actually a good choice in their own way and hardest part for you will be to land on one.

I only had 2 choices when I started (Eclipse and Loewe +Almando) and I took my sweet time working through just 2 scenarios. You have a task cut out for you.

Best wishes for whatever decision you make.

Thanks to both of you for your encouragement and interest

I have learnt a lot from your Eclipse adventures

Now Miki.,

My current main BV, an 8-40, drives 2xBL3 + 2xBL4 + 1xBL19 and we watch lots of free to air, foxtel cable (actually FtA mainly comes this way), and Apple TV including catch up Apps, Netflix, PLEX and games.

Elsewhere I have:

A BV8-32 as a desktop monitor.

A BeoSound 4 and a BL11 and 2xBL6000.

An Essence moving to a new role maybe driving the BS4’s speakers or an additional spare pair of BL4s.

A brand new Core and 2xBL20.

And a BLC NL/ML to in the darkness bind them Stick out tongue

And then there is my powered off vintage systems x 5.

That’s niceBig Smile but in this case i would advise that the standard lg tv option is out! It doesn’t have a surround decoder, so with almando at best you’ll have stereo. Unless you don’t mind thatStick out tongue

So i would say it’s a toss up between loewe and the eclipse, both are good options.

It also depends on where and how you place the tv. They both have movable options, although the b&o can move much more. The loewe goes left and right on axis, the b&o stand can do both that and also off axis and anywhere in between. Because of this the b&o stand can go much further right/left, incase you tend to sit to the side of the tv giving you a better angle to watch. I like the stand of the b&o much more, because when it comes all the way forward it makes my 55” seem like it’s the 65”. So in that sense i feel like i get more bang for my buck as it comes forward about a foot.

Secondly if you don’t care that much about multiroom and or integration, it becomes a harder choice. Are there loewe dealers in OZ? If not i personally would be more inclined to lean to a b&o option. Otherwise it’s a tough choice, but both are good!

All good points Mikipedia - and I agree with effect of moving the 55” forward to create a larger viewing experience.

Loewe is quite well represented in Australia. The LINN distributor also has Loewe viewing rooms.

And multi-room Audio is important for me although we rarely use it as the family does see it as something to be marvelled at.

The Loewe prices are competitive as others have found.

I shall post a updated comparison table tonight.

I suspect that after long detour I shall wimp out on the technology challenges and settle for a BV.

Hi elephant

I also had a look at Loewe at a point in time before they were all OLEDs and I would go down that track only at that point where B&O no longer does an integrated television product of vision and sound.  The Smart TV platform wasn't that great, didn't like the remote.  Loved the screen though.  I love the Bild 7.

Loewe have so many stand choices and if I chose Loewe at a point in time then i would have stayed with them but i already had B&O speakers and i foudn the integration a bit fiddly for what I was after

Be good to read your table when youve done it.

Cheers

Michael.

Eclipse Question :-)

On the LG C7 you can press one of the numeric keys and it acts as a quick access menu and you can assign to a "function"

You long press one of the buttons like 1, 2, 3 etc.

Can someone test for me please, does this work?

Not sure there's much to integrate these days? And is it his decision or his wife's?

B&O products are V1-32, BS2, H95, E8 and an Essence remote.
11-46 now replaced with Sony A90J 65”, Sony HT-A9, Sony UBP-X800M2 and Sony SRS-NS7.

Saw the Eclipse yesterday at my dealer for the first time. As others have mentioned here, it is even better looking in person than in pictures. Quality of the entire assembly and materials looked excellent. Much better than I expected after reading all of the negative comments here. Also, as mentioned frequently here, the sound was exceptional. Very impressive television.

Picture was beautiful as well. Walked past approximately 50 TVs from other brands at my dealer. Did not do a detailed comparison of any of the pictures, but none of the other TVs had a pictures that jumped out at me as being vastly better than the Eclipse. Also, none of them jumped out at me as being vastly worse.

The picture on the TV turns on so quickly, and then displays “ Bang and Olufsen” on the screen, that I did not miss the electronic curtains. Almost seems a waste of time to wait for electronic curtains to open, if it had them.

Also saw and listened to the Beolab 50s. Much larger than I expected. But beautiful, with obviously great sound.

Did not do a detailed comparison of any of the pictures, but none of the other TVs had a pictures that jumped out at me as being vastly better than the Eclipse. Also, none of them jumped out at me as being vastly worse.

I think comparing the picture quality between similar tier TVs in a store is getting pointless (maybe it always has been?).  Like the blind test mentioned earlier in this thread that proved that Phillips had a better vivid mode, you're mostly comparing the default or store display settings and not the actual PQ you'll see at home.  I guess I can see the OLED vs LED differences with respect to blacks and viewing angles, but beyond that, I'm not so sure that any differences you may perceive are meaningful.  I think it's similar to speakers - you don't really know until you get it home.

Years ago, I always thought the tube Avant had a dark picture and didn't understand what the fuss was about...

Seriously thank you... I liked your points of none seriously better / none seriously worse ... then add the price differentials and you have the nub of the problem ?

Struggling with the same thoughts...  also a bit worried about the longevity of the OLED screens - still very new technology - will the picture still look great in 5 - 10 years?  At a lower price, who cares, I'll get a new one.  At a B&O price, I very much care.
