ECLIPSE DTS HD CAPABILITIES

Pure speculation on my part:

The C7 does have the HD codec, and since the back of the B&Oled was pimped, the original marking got lost in the paint shop.

So technically the DTS HD symbol from the TV is now located on the soundbar.

This time I really don't want to be right, because that would be outright sad... Unsure

Incidentally, this is why I asked Emil for a shot of the Panel type label..

Marcello:

Emil Jensen:

As I wrote in another thread, DTS-HD is now supported

I was not aware of that. Even B&O official website does not mention it... crazy.

But that’s a B&O label specific to the sound center  not an LG one. I think it’s more likely that they did not update the audio specs on the website from the Beosystem4/Avant4K era.

For what would you need this decoding capacity in the SoundCenter?

MM

Many Blu-Ray nowadays are DTS-HD Master Audio (or Dolby TrueHD, still unsupported by B&O).

Any (halfway decent) Bluray player can do that - and has done for years.

@ Marcello

Remember its a UNIT, ONE type label. As MM says not a TV, but a BV!

My BV7-55 carries the DTS HD logo as well, but it does NOT have the codec!

However, the built-in BR does!

Ok I get what you mean now. But the player behaves in three ways

1) Passes through the DTSHD if supported by the HDMI sink (the Soundcenter)

2) Extracts and passes through the DTS core if DTSHD is not supported

3) Decodes and sends a setereo signal if DTS is not supported (the only reason for a player to have decoding capabilities, for analogue outputs or very old TV sets)

To me, it makes no sense to put it on a sticker if the TV cannot decode it. Ok it’s a unit, but if I had bought an Eclipse I’d be pissed off.

But maybe it’s just me being over sensitive on the issue since discovering and telling  B&O that my BV11 did not decode Dolby Digital Plus because of a wrong EDID information sent to the HDMI source...

Makes perfect sense since it has been the NO1 complaint for years! And technically the C7 (The Panel) CAN decode it. but to the best of my knowledge, the ARC channel doesn't have the bandwidth to return the stream back to the soundbar.

However, as MM points out, in 95% of the cases the BR source will do the HD decoding and convert it to a PCM stream, which the soundbar can easily handle (a simple demux). For the end user, there is NO difference.

If you like me use HTPC then there could be a difference, since its a lot easier to avoid the decoding in software. If you are using an AV reciver you also get the joy of seeing DTS HD in the displaySmile

Yes, the quality is the same, whether it's decoded by the TV or it's converted by the player to Multichannel PCM (in my case, Plex on an Intel NUC to a BV11).

I just find it misleading to have DTS-HD marking on a B&O sticker since (if your assumption that only the panel can decode it is correct) it would mean that the Sound Center does not actually support it but still relies on the HDMI source to convert it to PCM. Meaning that the Soundcenter has not evolved in terms of decoding standards since the BS4-based TV Sets.

That would be one of those 5% of the players, that I would have avoided.

And yes, mostly cheaper ones - those meant for connecting to a regular tv-only.

And those are normally not the ones, that someone who spends thousands of kr/€/$ on a B&O setup, would buy.

I meant that a single player can behave in three ways according to the sink, I was not considering the 5%. In the case of the Eclipse, if only the panel decodes it, it is irrelevant since I suppose most of us would plug stuff in the SS to have PUC support etc.

Anyway I will visit my dealer with a DTSHD file and see for myself the result.

Oh - there we go....a file, not a disc ;-)

I am pretty sure, that if you play that back directly via the LG’tv-part, you will get a two channel decoded stream (to the SoundCenter).

And if yon play it back via the SoundCenter, it will pick the core DTS signal and play that.

That is, if ‘a DTSHD file is accepted via USB at all!

That’s what I expect. So the sticker basically says “we support DTSHD but we will convert it to stereo” :)

Since yesterday the Sound part of the Settings menu (part of the 1st row in the Settings menu) has been unavailable . Anyone else who have experienced that? When using the remote I still can shift between the different speaker setups, but it is not possible to adjust the Sound settings in the settings menu. I’ve checked for FW updates - no new ones available.  Sw version: 1.3.20036.213941967

As to my own earlier question about bluetooth connection to headphones the simple answer is; no... there is no bluetooth transmitter to headphones in the Eclipse... I’m stunned, that’s just plain stupid... But now i’ve got myself an external bluetooth transmitter. I’m yet to try it out, but my dealer says it works perfectly. I’ll post about sound quality and connection stability when i’ve had a chance to try it out.

Heres a novel idea for you. I seem to recall this was for late night listening, not upsetting the rest of the family...

Why not get a Reciever 1 and use the WISA environment. The PL output can easily drive a set of earphones and you won't have to deal with sub-par BT!

Admittedly,- You are stuck with a wire, but the RC1 is small and can be placed anywhere.

Mnarh... this is actually mostly for the audio when watching Champions League matches, when the kids are asleep. It does’nt have to be top notch audio, the convenience of the wireless part is more important to me, in this case . But while i have you... how the f*** did you connect yours? I’ve got an rj45 to minijack cable, but when i search for speaker connections, i get nothing? Did i do it wrong?

It seems to me that you have plugged the cable into a wrong port. (The ports are labeled below, but in your picture these are hidden by the cables there).

Pick the right one in the lower row for PL1...if I remember well.

Go into Sound Settings/Speaker Connections, find the PL1 and configure that (the on-screen menu should tell you more) as ‘Other/Andre’ - I suppose that is the term used for any non-B&O speaker as with the previous BSys4-based systems!?

N.B maybe you’ll have to ‘select SHOW ALL’ first!

Then go create a new Speaker Group adding only this output. Make the settings there.......

Give this Group a name.

When you want the sound from only this group (means without activating the internal speaker, just the output to the BT-transmitter), you will have to choose this group via your BeoRemoteOne.

How well the volume control is going to work, I don’t know!!!

Im having issues with the ABL on my Beovision Eclipse. And from what I have heard and read from Bang Olufsen it is not possible to disable.
When a white scene that has more than 60% white color, the screen dims drastically. On LG televisions this can be disable through an option called ABL but not on the Eclipse.

Got this answer from Bang Olufsen support: ABL is an LG protection Feature to avoid OLED screen damage.

In some LG TV's settings can be adjusted using a special Service Mode remote control.
At the Eclipse this service mode is not available for customers and unauthorized change of settings may influence warranty.

Only standard Picture settings can be changed.

Please try it out to see if you can find settings that will minimize the dimming effect

I have disabled the Eco settings and turned down the auto contrast to none. Any suggestions?

Hi,

I have one PUC-related problem with my Eclipse where I think it is software-related. I have one Apple TV connected to HDMI C and one Oppo bluray connected to HDMI D. I use PUC-codes for both of these devices.

My problem: When I start Apple TV:n then the Oppo-player starts also. When I start Oppo-bluray player the Apple TV starts also (both starts up any way). When I start ordinary TV both Apple Tv and Oppo bluray starts up.

Is there a solution for this?

I used to own an 11-55 with Oppo and Apple. Unless something has changed in PUC in last 2 years, I am sure those PUC will not respond to the same command. IF that is truth, how can one command activate 3 controllers, 2 of whom had the incorrect command? For that reason I would not guess it is software, but firmware or even a failure in the remote controller?

Is the problem just that they start up?

You get the right source activated when you press e.g AppleTV?

hi  I have an Eclipse 55 and have Blu-ray, Sky Q and Apple 4K  all work independently on their own PUC.  I’ve always assumed that as long as you associate a PUC with a particular HDMI port the port selected will activate the associated PUC.  So selecting Apple TV for instance will not fire up Sky Q or my Blu-ray player.  This is certainly the case with the setup I currently have. I can only assume if it didn’t it would get really confusing if all devices responded to inputs from the remote!

in settings you can see what HDMI port your currently configuring and select the PUC table, socket and device. Under “sources” you would select the device by name (once it has been set up as a source) and go to Device setup  there you would select the PUC table and physical socket your cable is plugged into.

As all devices have different codes only the one you have requested should respond as the PUC table dictates that.

i hope this is helpful and not confusing you more.  Basically provided the device is named and associated with an HDMI and the PUC cable is associated with the device by  selecting the PUC port and it has the correct table downloaded it should work fine!

cheers  Peter

Sounds like what you're experiencing is related to CEC. Go into both the Apple TV and Oppo and turn off CEC or alternatively you can play around with CEC in the Eclipse settings.

Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there

Till Anders och Martin:

BeoVision Eclipse supports CEC on all HDMI sockets. CEC allows control of connected equipment without the use of PUC cables as it works via the HDMI connection.

Different vendors have their own understanding and implementation of CEC, and some equipment will not work well with the BeoVision Eclipse. There is often a lot of limitations when using CEC, and we still recommend using PUC when possible.

The CEC will remain active until you configure a PUC control for HDMI. When the PUC is configured, the BeoVision Eclipse will not send CEC control commands, but will only control the connected device via IR PUC.

When using PUC together with a device that supports CEC, it is important that you disable the CEC.

There are different possibilities of disabling CEC:

Method 1 - used if you have a mix of CEC and PUC controlled HDMI sources:

Set "HDMI Control" to "OFF" in the source setup on the HDMI connector in question. This will disable CEC in that one HDMI e.g. HDMI A, and CEC will still work on HDMI B-D.
Some CEC commands cannot be blocked this way. BeoVision Eclipse is still open for certaincommands e.g. source selection, which is why it is recommended to switch off CEC in the source (e.g. Blu-ray player) if possible.

Method 2 - used if all HDMI-connected sources are controlled with PUC:

If no CEC is used on HDMI A-D, we recommend disabling "HDMI Control" on all SoundCenter HDMI's (A, B, C & D) regardless if only one HDMI socket is used.
By disabling "HDMI Control" on all HDMI's, the CEC will be completely ignored by the TV when not in standby.

If this CEC setting/HDMI Control not taken into consideration when installing a TV, the connected devices can send CEC commands to the BeoVision Eclipse which will cause conflict with the PUC control and potentially cause unwanted behaviour like automatic source change or the TV switching on by itself.

If this CEC setting/HDMI Control not taken into consideration when installing a TV, the connected devices can send CEC commands to the BeoVision Eclipse which will cause conflict with the PUC control and potentially cause unwanted behaviour like automatic source change or the TV switching on by itself.

Was this in the Manual or was B&O the only TV company that didn't know about CEC? As even I (and every other B&O lover) know, whilst software patches are necessary and appreciated, they often create unintended consequences.

@Anders - just double checked, the HDMI control with the toggle on/off is under the menu called TV and then HDMI///Roger

Hi Roger,

I thought that I should go in under "sources" and choose each connected source and in that menu choose to put HDMI-control to "OFF".

I can not find a meny called "TV" on my Eclipse.
