Sandyb:But for multi-room music, NL is not strictly necessary anymore for some people. And multi-room AP2 audio can be very easy and intuitive using Airplay - adjustments can be made from the control panel on the iPhone home screen, without needing to go into the B&O app. Agree though that NL covers more use cases than AP2 - whether that will be the case in 5 years time remains to be seen though.
I don't know whether it would be considered a security hole - maybe, maybe not.
Yes, Airplay speakers are unlikely to get the Tap to Join function - i.e. the physical tap. But they can be added / tap to join v quickly on an iPhone etc.
I can perhaps see Apple's own speakers (i.e. the HomePod) gaining a similar function - but getting that to work across different hardware brands, thats not a road I see Apple going down. There are Airplay enabled speakers with built in sources, and those without - spread across different brands, hmmm.....Apple likes to ensure a smooth customer experience, so that just won't happen.
NL is great, I use it all the time - but from what I understand, not that many customers use it.
And there are other popular multi-room / streaming protocols now - the overlap is big enough now, that one day B&O may just rely on these and move beyond NL.......that's just logic, though I don't think we need to worry for a while yet.
I don’t care for AP2 in my setup - I can easily redistribute the airplayed stream e.g. from my Essence to my Avant (either through the Join command on my Beo remote or with the Bang & Olufsen app....which I use for controlling the Netradio, playing content from my NAS, Spotify Connect... anyway).
Besides - I am not using AirPlay that much, because I hate it when content on a website - that I visit on the sending device - often takes over the stream. When just playing to one device, I prefer using ChromeCasting.
From my point of view using AP2 instead of BeoLink is about it being much easier to explain and demomstrate for the dealers....and maybe to understand for most costumers in the first instance.

There is a tv - and there is a BV
Sandyb: Yes, Airplay speakers are unlikely to get the Tap to Join function - i.e. the physical tap. But they can be added / tap to join v quickly on an iPhone etc.
In my case my two tv’s have an added ATV4 each.
In order to add these to an AP2 session on e.g. my Essence I would have to perform several pushes on my remote.
Not only to turn on the ATV and the tv (thanks to PUC 😉), but also to change the default speaker group (which is made for video content) to a music related speaker group....and to push the P.Mute button in order to not have the screen on all the time.
......and what if my wife wants to add a device and hasn’t got access to my iDevice 😏
When I use the good old BeoLink redistribution, all I have to do is to push ‘Join’.....and I don’t have to grab (or maybe find) my iDevice!
These things are often forgotten, when dealers are demonstration their stuff in the shops.
Howver, if you are someone with a mixed bag of ‘only AirPlay speakers’ (the newer ones, which support AP2) and you have your iPhone always at hand, the AP2 way of doing things might be the right one.
Note 1: With the new update for BeoRemote One controlling of the B&O devices there is even less need for an iDevice.
Note! 2: Volume controlling with the iDevice is clumsy, especially when you have tried the fine steps of controlling with a BeoRemote.
Indeed, and no need to explain - my preferences and use cases are very similar to yours.
i.e. start some sources using Airplay (to something) and NL to expand.
We may well be pretty close to a post BV world though - and a bunch of new models from other brands have Airplay built in. So the two step process with an Apple TV / Tv combo will be less relevant going forwards.
Anyway, NL is here for a while yet.
*Side note, I was just at my sisters house. Her new Panasonic OLED + Apple TV 4K - the Panasonic TV remote controlled the Apple TV in very much the same way, through CEC, as my PUC driven setup at home.......
Sandyb: We may well be pretty close to a post BV world though -
We may well be pretty close to a post BV world though -
So...you predict a ‘post BV worlld’ alread - not knowing what might come from B&O.
Maybe I am just a bit more optimistic than you?
That said - B&O might renounce beolink multiroom for the sake of higher sales and thus focus on AP2 and Google integration.
The imo would be a ‘post B&O world’ for me, though.
I agree, I'd absolutely not want to lose NL - like you, I use it a lot.
And I don't think i'ts going anywhere very soon, it will still be around for a while.
Less sure about 5 years hence though.
As I say, by then many TV's may be AP2 capable, rather than the handful being released this year.
In a world of retrenchment, they'll come to a point where they ask themselves " do we really need to build in NL to our devices" - and the answer will probably be no.
......and the Bang & Olufsen app will by then just be a setup app.
So the new Beovision Harmony will be on WebOs 4.5. Hoping to see that in the Eclipse as well.
You should not expect that - only when they keep the design and upgrade to a newer tv part.

Just think its weird that its been on the market a long time and havent been updated at all when it comes to the WebOs.

Roger has stated the Eclipse is now EOL, so that's not happening now. Incredible.

That is how it is,
LG do not update the WebOs, and have never done it,
So no surprise here.

Well, it could be, that the current Eclipse is EOL.
No tv below 77” - seems a bit curious.
There might be room for a 2019 Eclipse - although I am not so sure, that it will happen.
Or maybe something else will replace it?
Millemissen: There might be room for a 2019 Eclipse - although I am not so sure, that it will happen.
Maybe. I think that's overly positive - you don't EOL something with nothing in the short-term pipeline and no need to EOL the Eclipse, either. Besides, Roger did say that, at least for now, B&O is effectively exiting the TV market.
We'll see, but if anything is clear, it's nothing right now is very clear.
Talk to a sensible dealer, he will explain why there will be no more BV's.
Clue - new EU energy ratings.....seems to have forced the Eclipse into EOL status.....

Apparently this Friday!

Technicolor and better TM.
For all of you with failing WIFI-cards. LG and BO has released a SW update. It requires a technical to come out.
Would anyone recommend swapping my Avant 55 NG Mk 1 - for an Eclipse 55 with 4K and UHD?
being offered a part ex and £5k cost to change - worth doing?

I upgraded last year from an Avant 55 Mk1 to an Eclipse 65.
Worth doing? Like always.......it depends on what you want?
If you want a compact TV with a simpler easier interface that integrates all you BeoLab and NL products, then the MK1 is it. I enjoyed that TV for that alone.
If you want a stand-alone TV with vastly better picture and Sound over the MK1, the Eclipse wins hands down. However, the user interface (LG) still drives me nuts and to this day it does weird non-intuitive things that you would never see on even the poorest buggiest B&O pure product.
Lastly, you are throwing another £5k at a TV. TVs which are going extinct in the B&O line-up. Keep a Classic or buy-up to the last (EoL) TV and hope to stay functional until something better comes along.
All-in-all, for me, I think in retrospect, the MK1 still has it on balance for me.
Hi,
I have also an Eclipse 65. I am very satisfied with it without any software bugs. I would say that the Eclipse is 99% perfect regarding software bugs. I can not see any drawback to buy the Eclipse.
You will get a much more modern TV regarding picture-quality and 4K formats (HDR and Dolby Vision) that you dont have in an Avant Mk1. You also have Deezer inbuilt in the soundbar and can play Deezer HIFI (FLAC-files) thru the B&O-app which sounds very good. You can not do this with the Avant MK1. So, I would say: Go for the Eclipse.
Best RegardsMartin

Many thanks, two answers and two views, I'll have a think about it.
In the showroom the 65 looks impressive and I wonder if it will be too big for our lounge - mind you that's nearer £8k to change.

Relieved to read this - Mrs S. and I bought a 65" Eclipse at the weekend. Delivery and installation Monday week - can't wait!!
We also bought a Beosound Core for the dining room, so our Beolab 6000s can finally come back out of the loft.
I stayed with my Avant Mk 1

Thank you guys.
I have some problems controling my TV STB.
When i installed the Apple tv 4k i just choosed the apple tv 4th gen and it worked directly without any puc cables.
My STB Is a Motorola/Arris VIP 4302 from Telia. and its also Bluethoot controlled. Was thinking maybe it can also control ther STB thru BT but that seems not the case.
Got a Puc cable from my dealer today, My STB was not in the PUC list but played around and tried several Motorola VIP codes incuding generic.
None working. Anyone have any idea what to do?
TEL: AdamsS How's the 65 inch Eclipse?
Generally, we love it. The picture is superb, the wireless interface with the BL90s and the rest of our stuff is faultless and it performs brilliantly. As an aside, the installation service from our dealer was superb and included hiding the cables inside the wall and re-plastering it. Very impressed!

However, it has one weird issue that we, our B&O dealer and B&O Technical are struggling with - basically, sometimes it just won't switch off!
What happens when you press power off on the BeoRemote One is that the speakers all switch off, the picture shuts off and the Eclipse starts to fold back against the wall. However, when it gets about halfway, the ‘Bang & Olufsen’ logo appears on the screen for ten seconds or so, then goes away. Then, when the unit is flush to the wall, the logo appears once again for another fifteen seconds or so, and then whatever we were last watching reappears – if it was Live TV, the channel we were previously viewing comes back, or if it was our Humax box, then the “No Signal “ message is displayed, as the Eclipse has obviously switched the Humax box off. There is no sound, the speakers do not switch on, it does not respond to the Beoremote One or the app, and the app says that the Eclipse is in standby, but the picture is there and nothing can be done about it.
As a result, I'd been having to switch the set off at the plug every night and this, in turn, made it keep losing settings and generally behaving badly sometimes when re-started!
After some investigation, B&O Technical suggested it might be due to the internet connection and, if I pull out the lead to our home hub, it does indeed switch off properly. However, about two weeks ago in the middle of all this, we were sent a new hub by our broadband supplier and, with this installed, the Eclipse now does mostly swtch off correctly, but it still shows the 'Bang & Olufsen' logo as it shuts down, which it apparently shouldn't do.
I need to go back to the dealer again as I said I'd run it with the new hub for a couple of weeks to see how it behaved and, as it's a known issue (albeit a rare one), hopefully they'll be able to sort it once and for all.
Best regards - Dyssegaard
