Mikipidia:

If you’re going to have the entire front on(not 100% recommended) you need to set the center 20cm furter than it actually is and set the two sides atleast at minus 2db if not -3db.

Also what sound type do you use? Cinema/drama/sports?

And have you remeasure everything with the distances and also with a db meter(phone app is fine)? New: Beovision Harmony, Beolab 50's, Beolab 18's, Beolab 17's, Beolab 3's, Beosound 9000 mk3, Beosound Stage & LG, Beosound 2, Beoplay M3, Beoplay A1, Beoplay H4 gen 2, Beoplay E8 3.0

Mikipedia on YouTube (finally )

https://www.youtube.com/c/Mikipedia

Old: Beovision Eclipse, Beolab 1's, Beolab 2, Beovision 10-46, Overture 2300, beolab 8000's, Beolab 4000's, Beovision avant 32" etc. etc.

Hi there

So you recommend to only have the center one on like in the avant?

I used to have adaptive on the avant so it took care of it when needed I think.

I setup a new speaker group and it’s better.

Configured my rear speakers as surround and now back.

Voice is higher.

Change the Apple TV resolution to 4K 50hz as that’s for Europe apparently.

I noticed that the Apple TV behaves much worse than it did before but maybe because it’s inside the TV compartment.

Hi,

As Mikipidia already said, make sure you use the correct sound mode for speech, mine is on Drama when TV is playing (movie for Netflix).

I have enhanced the sound setting in drama mode for improvement of speech and sound.

In speaker groups, startup I use all three speaker channels and have set them left - center - right. Distance settings all same numbers and speaker level all on 0dB.

I have tried the speaker level settings as mentioned by Mikipidia (and advised by Geoff) but didn’t notice a big difference.

I do not notice the sound signature as you describe, maybe this is due to all channels are in center mode.

Do you always use the surround mode for music, movie and tv?

Not sure this helps Smile

As per Erik advice I will factory restore at the Weeknd and start again but it’s OK for now.

For example contrast is at 100.

Sounds is good Nie after mikipedia advise but I need to measure properly at the weekend.

Question since using the BT remote, is it no longer possible to change the order of the list for TV? I want to put homecontrol back at the top.

And for good measure not cable free just yet but here you go

Evening all

Well after a few days with the Eclipse 65 I say the below things as it’s been a week.

I don’t miss the avant to be honest the upgrade of picture is excellent

WebOS on the TV is amazing and faster than any B&O TV

Netflix is great.

I only use my Apple TV now fit film rental.

I don’t miss the electronic curtains at all because the TV turning on and off is super fast

The TV still has the iconic click of speakers turning on and off

Homecontrol is slower than the avant 55

You can connect a SKY HD dish directly to the TV and it will access freeview and importantly can filter by HD channels.

The TV is stunning

Sound takes some getting used too and I am not fully there yet. I seem to have the set up higher due to lower than normal voice and there is so much more surround sound noise now.

Happy reading Big Smile

I turn on my BV 4 55" and as it glides into the room and the curtains open, any visitors "look" and say "what make is that" and I say "it's a Bang & Olufsen",

I wonder If you'll get that with a 10 year old Eclipse ??

I’ve just picked up an 8-40 for granny and I’d forgotten how these small things matter.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

Not wishing to rain on  anyone's parade here!

I have gone through these purchasing decisions.  The biggest change I noticed was in sound quality moving from beosystem 3 to beo4 based systems- not many mention this- it was a huge improvement.

The picture of BV4in ( d9 panel upwards) was excellent ( only with BS3  - not the early avant chassis)  but that was 15 years ago and more.

Despite the failings of LCD i found the Avant to offer in most situations a better picture by far than the rather grainy image of a BV4.  Inbuilt netradio, integrated speaker make it look good; the BV4 with its huge bezels and the 7.1 speaker is a rare sight these days, as to impressive, in todays world of Sony A9s looking so delicate i think the bv4 would only impress those 'lesser informed individuals - hence the price , i sold my BV4 and BS3 for 500,

Of course image quality on the LG s good with the soundcentre underneath,  think I will skip that when QLED well on its way will solve the longevity issues.

Probably because the wall mount is more like a Hinge than a creation and doesn't perform anything like the motorised (ST Brackets) MER 4, It doesn't have the Screen curtains or anything to even make the "GX panel" resemble a B&O creation and lastly it's an LG GX55 OLED TV,  so 10yrs down the line if it's still running ! and visitors see it turned on and ask "what make is that" and I say it's an LG OLED TV, they'll probably reply "yes we had one of those" !!

Why is this a discussion? Honestly, most of my friends don’t care about my B&O and those who do are very amazed. Still too.

I would never put a beovision 4 here, they would then rather just ask “where did you buy that? At the dump?” No 4K, not slim, subtle or up to date in any way. No way I would prefer a beovision 4 today.. it was good and it’s good they still work but come on, it can not in any way compare!

what actually makes for a good quality picture ? I have the BV4 50" and I'm sure that when I bought it with the Beolab 7.2 speaker and BS3 that my B&O dealer wasn't selling me an inferior TV with a grainy  picture ?, I also had the Avant 32" prior to the BV4 and again I ask what makes a quality picture especially when watching a none HD TV program or a film that was made in the 60s, It's the same with the sound issues I have whilst watching tv, our TV in our main room 19ft x 15ft and we sit watching a movie turning the volume up and down, it's up to hear dialogue and down when "some" soundtracks kick in. And then you look at the lips of someone on the screen talking and ask yourself "just exactly where is that voice coming from ? the answer is the speakers at the bottom of the screen, bigger the screen bigger the problem and there's only one remedy and B&O haven't solved it, Watch and concentrate on the lips, and I'm not talking "lip sync"

Can we possibly not compare the benefit of the B&O curtain to a 4K OLED picture quality. You can have as many curtains as you wish to impress your guests, picture quality of the 4K OLED crushes is to dust.

You clearly haven't seen this poor feeble, non-"creation" hinge in action.  With the design of the Eclipse where the soundcenter is wider than the screen, the hinge really makes it appear to be floating... at least to my eyes, and more than a few friends have mentioned this without my prompting.  Above, when you mentioned about your BV "glide into position"... I experience this whenever I sit down to watch.  Then I'm blown away by the picture and sound.

I have a BV with curtains.  It's in my bedroom now, and it still works fine.  I really don't miss the curtains... especially since it doesn't take a full >60 seconds to power up.

that wasn't the point, the point I was trying to make was Bang & Olufsen's individuality, that is now somewhat lost when the TV part arrives in a LG box stating it is an LG TV, so that could be the Road I take (if possible) LG OLED55" TV mounted on STBrackets MER4 remote wall mount  and leave in position original BL7.2  and continue using suround sound BL8000s & BL6000s plus BL2 sub, It's all about the programming to fit in with what I have and the Beo5 remote

I do really like the "Dump" part !!!!!!

I think you have hit the nail on the head !! I would hate the thought of friends coming to my home and saying "nice OLED TV, did you get it from Currys PC World or did you go online, I paid £1450 for the one I have at home"

Not sure what all this provocation is about. Beovision 4 by the way, is a Panasonic plasma, sold for many times retail with an aluminum cover around it.

It’s smaller - yet heavier and thicker and less energy efficient. It has much lower resolution, less light output, less color accuracy and color depth and less contrast. It’s louder (it has fans) and it’s not 4K. It’s simply an old plasma screen, probably weaker now than new as plasma screens wear out over time making them duller and duller slowly.

Beovision Eclipse is more or less the same deal but thinner, lighter and frankfully better in every way. Even the sound.

Really, please, be happy with the system you have but no need to think it’s better than the current beovisions because it simply isn’t..

You’ll see that even if you try to sell it as the resale value will be in proportion to what the market thinks it is worth.

This is all getting a bit silly. Let’s just all enjoy what we have.Different TVs give different people different experiences.

I still use a BV11, which is also pretty outdated these days but its fine and suits my purpose. I am not interested in 4K as I don’t use any device or streaming application using it. I personally do like the curtains and the fact its pure B&O - in my opinion - but that’s just me.

The Eclipse is an interesting TV but its also outdated somewhat. There is no right or wrong TV. I can’t imagine that many people on this forum would want to keep updating their TV every time B&O brings out a newer model. What a hassle, let alone the cost. Is it honestly worth it? Maybe some but certainly not me. Every 5-7 years is about my timescale and I am more personally interested and seeking design and home integration.

Just enjoy what you have.

Cheers, Simon.

B&O products are V1-32, BS2, H95, E8 and an Essence remote.
11-46 now replaced with Sony A90J 65”, Sony HT-A9, Sony UBP-X800M2 and Sony SRS-NS7.

I never once said the BV4 was better than the Eclipse, I was only trying to point out that B&O have moved away from their individuality, even the bezel round the Panasonic panel and the Curtains made the BV4 look like something else and that basically was my point, you added "did you get it from the dump", not a very nice comment

To be fair Graham, I don't think we can claim an Eclipse looks 'like any other TV'. Despite the cost (I own a 55" GX so could, in theory, get the Eclipse stand and sound center, but those two components alone make up almost £6000!), it still looks very unique, very different and nothing like anything else out there on the market.

The Eclipse also allows PUC control unlike the Stage + GX, which is the only part of my Stage + GX combo which I find frustrating when controlling external boxes such as Sky Q.

It might not have the old-skool curtains or terrible 90s UI which B&O's deployed before the Eclipse, but I can't say many Eclipse users miss those massively. As someone pointed out, the new LG TVs turn on instantly, making curtains redundant anyhow.

I'm trying to find a solution to leave the BL7.2 in place along with the Remote ST Bracket, I'm 100% sure that I can adapt a screen GX or other to the stand, I also have some other B&O equipment that all run through the BS3 that I control with the BEO5 remote.

All I need is someone to (if possible)  program the screen to work within the system
