The BS Essence has now (August 2017) been discontinued and replaced by the BS Core.

However, you can't find any User Guide for the Core (as box) yet.

I suppose, that it will work with the 'wheely' remote and the BeoRemote One/BT.

Anyone knows if it has support for the ir-receiver/ir-eye just like with the BS Essence?

Hi MM,

My understanding is that Beosound Core won't have an IR socket, so there won't be direct infra red support.

Kind regards, Steve.

My bluetooth table remote and wall remote don't work well with my Essence Mk II any more.  I am told by BeoCare this is a known problem and they are waiting on new bluetooth firmware from the vendor.  They recommend I get the IR Eye as the solution to my problem.  Since it looks like the Essence is now discontinued is there any reason to think the Core will be better?  I don't like the fact that the Core doesn't have TuneIn, has USB C power, no IR possibility, and only 1 PowerLink connector (I don't know if the DPL can be used as a PL.  It does have optical in and out which would be nice.

Would the Core be any kind of upgrade?

Hi

Tune In Radio is integrated into the Core, its market dependent if you can receive it though. The powerlink can be doubled out of one socket by using a splitter or daisy chaining speakers and the USB C power input makes it possible to make the overall system smaller than the Essence. However there is a lack of IR like the Essence.

Stuart.

The B&O site says the core can be placed in any hollow shape.

Does that mean in its Essence form you have it naked without a shape hexagon and cover ... or it should be placed inside of a shape (at extra $s) as it is ugly ?

I'm glad to hear that TuneIn is available, it was missing from the Shape web page.  I would rather plug in a system like this the traditional way rather than to have another adaptor to plug in.  The difference in size between the Essence and the Core isn't that big of a deal to me.  I guess an IR eye on my Essence will be a better option for me since it doesn't seem to lack anything the Core will have.

Do we know if the launch of the Core renders the Essence obsolete?

And news on the Digital Powerlink?

1: The Essence isn't in the danish price list from August on - but the Core is, as a seperate product.

2: No!

Regarding 1: With the Essence mk2 now discontinued is it likely to be obsolete compared to the Core? Or do they cater to different needs?

Apart from the fact, that you probably won't be able to use an ir-eye (this was my original question)

and that the Core has a DPL-out (for furure use) and has an external power supply, there isn't much difference in what they offer.....maybe better wifi with the Core.

Same services - AirPlay2 though, could be a difference (I hope not).

Most likely the Essence will be discontinoued, but I guess we will soon learn.

1st edition Core's (those that ship with BeoSound Shape etc.) will not have IR. There is another version of the Core which will have IR functionality released eventually. What remains to be seen is weather or not that change implementation will warrant a MKII or if it will just be an implemented change.

Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there

The core is on the price list now and the essence is gone!

€745, think that is more expensive than the essence was

Attached the same as an Essence 2 with rj45 on the DPL port. It does not say IR.

They added a new part 1293042 it is a hardware upgrade, and not backwards compatable with older cores. Type 3051

I am running latest sw 1.1.19910.

I can press it turn volume up and down, but no command on beo 4 or beo 1. Maybe something in the settings? It does blink when using the remote but nothing happens?o who can help me out?

I will be adding one to my bathroom tomorrow attached to a beolink passive and some beovox 1.

If I have wired it wrong it will come out tommorrow but I doubt itCool

My Essence’s IR eye blinks it’s green light when I change volumes.

Are you at least seeing the eye from red eye (lol) to green when the Core is activated by the App ?

Ehhh, I feel stupid. I am not really familiar with the Netlink products yet. Should have put it in option 1.....Wink

Works just like the Essence MKII in a linkroom.

Now the challenge, the passive is not switching on. I did get a special cable, but not a 5v relais?

Hi chucky,

It is worth double-checking the cable, as a normal RJ45 to Powerlink cable won't trigger the Passive correctly from an Essence, PlayMaker or Core (or an B&O TV since the V1).  You don't need a 5v relay, just this specially wired version of the cable:-

Just ordered one from you Steve Smile

I did have a cable but it only triggers when you put it in.

Any idea if the passive will return to standby with this cable currently it won’t.

And now I will start ranting a bit.

It is not stable, although wired it lost sometime connection on both. Power on off after a few times got an ip again. Setup was looking ok but again had to power off the NL/ML converter. (That peace of kit is really the worst B&O experience I have ever had) one of the main reasons I am switching to NL.

I have ordered 2 cores one was setup in Dutch and I can select a beolab, the English version with the same sw I can’t....?

The linkeyes all work fine just as normal on beo 6, beo 4 and beo 1.

I really love the join button, makes it simple.

I Still have 4 ML TV’s and I need to set them up with a core but I am not really happy with the share speaker Almando sollution, a bit to expensive, is there another sollution?

You can”t, it is a hardware upgrade. So if you order one now you can probably get one. I have one from February 2018 without the upgrade, and now 2 new with join eye. The old eye”s will not work.

To make this clear..

This does mean, that there is a new ‘version’ of the Core, right?

Could you please tell us the type numbers - of both new and old?

With ‘old eye’ do you mean the one for the Active/Passive Link boxes?

Or is it a new version of the current ir eye with the Join button, that is used for the Core?

No, only a hardware upgrade, when I got the boxes it just set with a red marker IR. In the small docu I got from the dealer in Dutch it just said the only way to Know if it is IR version is: Type - and partnumber Type 3051 Partnumber 1293042. (Both) Core without IR is 1293039.

You need at least the SW version 1.1.19508. They mis-used the DPL port, it still says DPL they dit not print IR on it.

With ‘old eye’ do you mean the one for the Active/Passive Link boxes?

Yes normal @red eye

Or is it a new version of the current ir eye with the Join button, that is used for the Core?

New Eye is green and contains join just like the Essence, it is the same.

I guess I am one of the first a guinny pig.

Yesterday I was shocked, apparently I did not connect one of the cores correctly with cat7 and it automaticly sends out a network to join without password, this is really not OK, You should at least get a pop up instaed of simply sending out such a signal, any one can break in.
