Couple of questions:
1. what is the best way to connect my non-BO sources (Uverse, AppleTV)? These sources only have the Optical output but Beosystem3 only accepts S/PDIF Coax? is there a cable for Toslink->Coax? Or what it is the recommended converter to use?
2. How do I setup my Panasonic Plasma TV? Do I use HDMI to HDMI or the HDMI to DVI?
thank you for all the assistance.
Andy V
Hi Andy V,
Welcome to Beoworld!
The simplest way to connect non-B&O video sources is via an HDMI lead, this will handle picture and sound so no extra connection is needed:-
http://soundsheavenly.com/input/55--hdmi-.html
For the TV output, please use another HDMI lead and a DVI adapter to allow this to connect to one of the DVI-D outputs on the Beosystem:-

The Beosystem is designed to send sound to separate speakers, rather than to the TV speakers.
Kind regards, Steve.

Thank you for the quick response, Steve! Here' my setup.
1. BeoSystem 3
2. 5 speakers, all B&O.
3. Velodyne sub ー it has two RCA jacks. Where can I buy a cable to connect to the B&O socket in BS3?
4. Panasonic TV - plan to use only as a video screen. All channel stations come from the set top cable box
5. Cable Box for cable programming. Can i use HDMI for both audio and video? This device has optical and HDMI outs
6. Apple TV - has HDMI and optical out. Use HDMi only? Or have to use both?
do you have the cables required to complete my setup? Are there any cables that has the Toslink on one side and a coax on the other end?
as always thank you for the help.
Andy
Hi Andy,
No worries, thanks for this. For devices with HDMI sockets then only an HDMI cable is needed, this will give you HD video and surround sound audfio through one cable. Here are the cables you need for this setup:-
2. 5 speakers, all B&O (for the most popular Beolab speakers): http://soundsheavenly.com/powerlink-8-pin-din-connection/20-powerlink-mk-3-compatible-8-pin-din-cable-with-4-cores-wired-low-profile-cable.html
3. Velodyne sub ー it has two RCA jacks. Where can I buy a cable to connect to the B&O socket in BS3?: http://soundsheavenly.com/bang-olufsen/16--5pd-2rca-.html
4. Panasonic TV - plan to use only as a video screen. All channel stations come from the set top cable box. HDMI cable: http://soundsheavenly.com/input/55--hdmi-.html and DVI adapter: http://soundsheavenly.com/misc/58--hdmi-dvi-block-.html
5. Cable Box for cable programming. Can i use HDMI for both audio and video? This device has optical and HDMI outs, use HDMI only: http://soundsheavenly.com/input/55--hdmi-.html
6. Apple TV - has HDMI and optical out. Use HDMi only: http://soundsheavenly.com/input/55--hdmi-.html
Hope this helps, any question please ask!
thanks, again.
Is there any reason why the sources does not turn on even if I had an IR on it? It also does not turn on the HDMI devices. By the way, I have ordered the cables I need from your company.
andy v.
Thanks Andy!
You need IR blaster cables to allow the Beosystem 3 to control external devices via the B&O remote: http://soundsheavenly.com/televisions/59--ir-blaster-.html
You can then set the Beosystem 3 to control whether it powers on the devices as they are needed, or if they are to be kept powered on.
Thanks for your order, I will email you in a moment to confirm shipping details.
i'm looking forward to your products I've ordered. I've got setup initially but I could not find the sources' names in the list of supported BS3 devices. I have to turn them on manually, despite having the IR on these devices. How do I update BS3 to have the list of supported sources? Also, my panasonic TV (used as display only) seems to have a lot of RED and BLUE colors on it (like bleeding). Is it because I need to update my firmware? How? I live in Dallas TX and it seems B&O dealers on this side of the pond do not support 'legacy' systems. Any help is highly appreciated.
thank you,
AndyV
You would need to get a local B&O engineer or dealer to update the Beosystem 3 software for you, then they can add the control list for all the devices that you wish to connect. The colour balance should be adjustable within the Beosystem menu settings.
So, I could not use your IR Blaster unless BS3 is updated to support my source/s, right? Can I just buy the updates via a memory stick and plug it in to BS3?

My IR blaster cables will only work if your Beosystem 3 has your source devices shown in the STB (set top box) list on screen, other wise you would need to get your local dealer to update this. The update needs to be done face to face, as this cannot be done remotely (ie. online or via a USB stick).

Hi, Steve - I finally received my order and thank you once again. My question is - why is it that BS3 is not recognizing my subwoofer? it is a Velodyne 15" Ocatve 1.0. this was working when I was using the AV7000. I tried using the low frequency RCA inputs (L and R) as well as the high frequency RCA inputs to no success. The BS3 options is also not showing the subwoofer. I am missing something?
andy
There should be an option in the Beosystem 3 speaker setup marked "Other" or "Variable" to allow the Velodyne sub to be connected without needing to be detected in the software. Otherwise, you can manually set this as "Beolab 2" and it should work fine.
Hey Steve
You should not by any chance have the wiring setup for BeoSystem 3 and the IR eye via. RS 232.
Crossed fingers
Lars
Hey Lars,
I just have the 3.5mm IR wiring (without auto-contrast) for Beosystem 3: https://www.soundsheavenly.com/bang-olufsen/61--ir-trs-bv4-.html
