Hi there,

I have always adored the looks of every MCP iteration, particularly the one with the volume dial, and recently stumbled upon one for sale at a price so low it couldn't resist buying it.

However, I have no Beosystem from a series that originally came with the MCP, and instead use the equally mirror-finished BeoSystem 4500 that I have hanging on the wall. The BeoWorld entry on the Master Control Panel 5500 (of which the 6500 is a rebadge if I understand it correctly) says the MCP essentially uses BeoLink 1000 codes, which lead me to hope I could at least use it to control the volume and input source of my BeoMaster 4500. I remember connecting a 'foreign' BeoLink 1000 to the 4500 by pressing a specific combination of buttons, could the same be achieved with the Master Control Panel?

I'm really desperately hoping somebody will tell me this is possible; if not: let me know if you live in the vicinity of Amsterdam and are looking for a MCP 6500 with brand new batteries ;)

Back in 2012 I rigged up a stand-alone amp for my computer that used just an MCL2AV and a Passive.  I was able to control the volume using an MCP's volume dial.

The MCL2AV is designed to provide a link into other rooms, hence my point is this:  You could perhaps set up an MCL2AV and Passive (or possibly MCL2A) from the Spkr 2 sockets of the BS4500 and see if the MCP will control these.

All Beolink 1000/Beo4/Beolink 5000/Beolink 7000/MCP 5500-6500 can control almost all "newer" systems from around the 90's. But... The 2 way remotes were in the beginning made for the 9500/6500 and 7000 systems. The beolink 5000/7000 can be set to 1-way mode, and act like a Beolink 1000, the MCP's cannot do 1-way mode.

The Beosystem 4500 needs a SW higher than 1.6 to do 2-way control, so if you have tried the MCP and it does not work with your 4500, then look at the back of your Beomaster, it might say SW 1.6, and this is not 2-way SW.

It can be changed, it is just a matter of getting a new EEPROM with the 2.2 SW, not from B&O, but you can email me and I may be able to help you.

You need to be careful here:  My BC9500 is two-way (by design) yet it cannot be controlled properly with an MCP - the volume controller does not work correctly.  Hence my suggestion to rig up a partial MCL system - this I think might work based upon my earlier experimentation.

I must admit I have never tried a MCP with other than 6500/7000, so maybe you are correct, but it could be worth to investigate what the SW on his 4500 system is at first.

There's a bit more about it here: http://archivedarchivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/37781.aspx

I would direct my energies towards an MCL experiment, but that would probably also require the BM4500 to be the 2-way version.

Thanks for your answer! The SW of my 4500 is 2.2, so if I understand you correctly this means it's capable of 2-way control, right?

I have found somebody online selling a MCL2AV and MCL2A with IR receiver. I guess both of these should work, right?

The thread you refer to does not bode well by the way ... the prospect of having to wait for a 'no contact' message after every command seems very tedious - but you said the volume controls worked just fine in your situation right?

Yes they should be compatible, and if cheap worth buying to have a play around.

The MCL2A is designed just to provide separate passive speakers in a link room, hence you just need some cabling - I would see if this works initially connected to the speaker 2 socket of the BM4500.  You may have to put the BM in A.Opt 0 so that it does not respond to IR signals, because obviously you want the IR signal (from your MCP) to go to the IR sensor that comes with the MCL2A.

The MCL2AV is designed to connect active speakers (or a 'Passive' amplifier connect to passive speakers) in a link room.  The MCL2AV requires a power supply, either from a separate stand alone PSU, or from a MCL2P amplifier.

Good luck!

I just bought a MCL2A for a modest price. Won't be at home at the BeoMaster for another week but I'll make sure to see if it works and report if it works once I get back; thanks again for het advice!
