Hi all,
I recently acquired a second hand BV 7-32 mk5 (with two HDMI-ports) to replace my MK1 version. All in order to be able to connect a Apple TV without having to convert to scart etc. However, I still have a very annoying problem – the screen flickers every second or so. Other sources are fine – I’ve tried with two different STB’s without any problems. I’ve naturally also tried with another ATV, different HDMI cables, powering down both the ATV and the BV in different orders, reset the ATV to factory settings – all without any success. The thing is that the seller showed me a perfect picture with his ATV (an ATV2) when I bought the tv.
This has lead me to believe that there is some kind of a HDCP or handshake issue between the BV and the ATV but I really don’t know how to solve it and it really drives me nuts. If anyone has any idea what to do it would therefore be really, really appreciated. Could a HDMI switch be a solution, software update of the BV (if that’s even available) or should I just ditch the ATV in favour of a Google Chromecast?

Not sure about ATV3, but on my ATV4 you can change the refresh rate of the video output between 50 and 60Hz - maybe you can try changing that?
And with a bit of googling I found this - you could try the technique in the second para and see if it cycles through to a setting that produces a stable picture.
On your Apple TV, go to Settings > Audio and Video and adjust the HDMI and display settings. Can’t go to Settings because of a blank screen? Then use your remote instead:

Many thanks for your prompt answer. I've tried to switch booth resolution and refresh rate with no joy so that does not seem to be the issue here.
As an update to the above I have now purchased a Google Chromecast in order to rule out the ATV as the culprit. Unfortunately the problems still persist. If the ATV3 gave a flickering every two second or so the Chromecast gives me a crystal clear picture for half of a second and then just a picture which reminds about the “snowy” pictures you had on an old analogue tv where the antenna cable was not plugged in.
I’m prone to believe that there is some kind of handshake problem between the ATV3/Chromecast and the BV7 but I really can’t figure out why… The odd thing is also that my STB (Humax BXR HD+) works without issues. Haven’t tested with any blu-rayplayers or other HDMI equipped gadgets though so can’t say if they are also causing troubles.

If anyone has any clue why the BV does not show a solid picture of the ATV3/Chromecast or what can be done to solve the issue it would really be appreciated. As mentioned the seller had used it with an ATV2 without any issues. As the ATV2 is an older box could it be that my BV is not up to date to accept a more recent box such as ATV3/Chromecast?

Just tested with a Blu-ray player (Sony BDP-S6500) which works without problem... Can't understand why not an ATV3 or Chromecast?
