Hello everyone!

Here I am again with another restoration project and this time, a pair of Beovox 3000 type 6220 (2-ways) speakers given to me with a pair of Beovox 2705 and also a BM 5000 tuner ( 1967).

To make a little story, a friend of mine informed me that his father's friend had died and that the family had to dispose of his audio material and that for want of a taker or it would end up in the garbage. I am told that there are B & O equipment, but no more precision. Since I live too far, I organized the recovery of the material and then retrieve it from a friend. During the recovery, the aesthetics seems OK, but nothing more. It is clear that the enclosures will need care, but they are still recoverable. All this provided that the loudspeakers are in working order.

Since I already own the BL & BM 5000 1967, recently restored from the same era, I think this is a great opportunity to bring together the complete set. These speakers were manufactured on January 26, 1970, so it's perfect; they are part of the same period as my whole.

I plugged the speakers on a test amp and everything work, good sign! I hear a rattling coming from both speakers ... knowing that they are good, I do a small comparative test on my BL 5000 amp to compare with my Celestion 33. The bass response is comparable, however, the Celestions 33 has an advantage over mediums and trebles. Admittedly, the Celestions are three ways that could explain this discrepancy, but I believe, however, that the Beovox should offer a little more and that could be explained by the aging crossovers.

I linger a little more to discover the rattle and voila! The suspension is cracked in a few places, where the speaker mounting brackets are mounted to the enclosure. After many hours of research to find a surround repair kit, the substandard dimensions make it difficult to find, but I was able to find the repair kit at QSR in Australia (qsr.net.au kit # RS 222-183). But stroke of luck! Knowing that, I had to find a repair kit for a 10" Peerless, I managed to find a new pair, very similar, in the box, visually identical to those original on Ebay. These are quality speakers with an ALNICO magnet (Aluminum, Nickel, Cobalt) so almost impossible to find a suitable today. Upon receipt of these, I was able to confirm that they are identical to those of origin! That's more than luck!

At this point, restoring up these Beovox 3000 seems more than possible. I'm looking at the crossovers restoration. For the tweeter filter, I will replace the original 12uF electrolytic with a metalized film Solen MKP PB. I'm not sure yet of this one, I'll listen to it. For the woofer high-pass filter, I will replace the electrolytic 50uF by a Mundorf E-Cap PLAIN 47uF.

As you can see, the project is in progress, but pulls on the end. Here are some photos…
